The first day back from vacation is never pretty.

I'm just now having my first coffee at 11:30, but I've done laundry, been to the grocery store and the hardware store, and gone over to my classroom to take care of Joe-Ben the Turtle (actually his name, not his Paizoboards handle, and I didn't name him.)

No word from the horrible landlord as to when our house will be cooler on the inside than the outside, but we're on "urgent status". At least it's supposed to be "cool" this week, nothing above 87.

My brain is muzzy from three days on the road. As I looked for a parking spot at the grocery store this morning, I said, "Dang, there are a lot of other people here from Texas!"

EDIT: I did, however, remember to put clothes on.

Heat wave is totally reinforcing leaving Florida. It feels like the weather followed me north. I can only imagine what Tac and Amby are dealing with.

76 and mostly cloudy with a s%$+load of humidity here. So just about perfect, except for the humidity, which I'm not going to complain about.

63°F and foggy with a cold breeze. Welcome to the Bay Area in July. (Sure, it's technically June, but it's July later this week so I figure the weather is just getting ready for it.)

They were playing "country legends" radio.

I know the feeling.

While working abroad the local chinese restaurant was my only hope of getting any decent veggies. I may have cried in my broccoli in spicy black bean sauce

There was no vegetable/vegetarian section of the menu, no garlic eggplant or ma po tofu with tender greens or the thing with the different kinds of mushrooms in the wine sauce. Just various kinds of meat with elderly bok choy and bamboo shoots and crinkle-sliced carrots.

These are the fleeting moments when I miss California.

My grocery run this morning was half produce.

Growing up we saw all those gift catalogs where you could send fresh fruit to your friends and family and we wondered, "Why on Earth would you send someone fresh fruit when they could just go to the grocery store and buy it?"

Listening to Shiro's description of what was considered "edible" in Detroit in the winter in the 1970s, now I understand...

My smartphone showed 56 when I was running all over San Francisco yesterday...

Sounds about right. San Francisco's closer to the ocean than we are, hence runs cooler.

It is damp.

I am coming back from fencing, and having a pint of beer in the pub while I wait for the train home.

The football is on.

I am ignoring it.

We had a super productive day, got all the pavers laid down and then got all the cutting done and started building the seat wall.

Also, the stone stenciling kit came in and the boss got us a new tool box and a bunch of high quality zombie killing weapons that also double as tools.

"Today, was a good day" - Ice Cube.

Not much else is going on, got dentist appointments for the kids on Thursday and I got to get over and visit my dad plus go shopping for a new washing machine. But none of that is happening tonight so I might as well play some video games.

I ended up in charge of supper when the General suggested we have macaroni and cheese and green beans on the side, with crunchy onions on top.

I got us sandwiches and fish from Glass Nickel instead (it's a five minute walk, and super good).

About to go home. Good night, everyone.

I fell asleep in my chair with both cats in my lap within 30 minutes of getting home. The good news is that I didn't have any evening work to do tonight. Unlike tomorrow night.

I went from being an IT Tech and manager for a large company to being a Systems Admin for several dozen small companies. My general crankiness has greatly subsided but my personal time is rapidly disappearing.

Only slept in until 630, so I'm one time zone closer to normal.
I've got a theory that it takes a body 24 hours to adjust to every 1 hour of time difference.
Since I woke up at 722 yesterday, I'm guessing that tomorrow, I should feel right as rain.

LOL. I was sitting on a call complaining to my Indian colleague about the 100°F heat wave in Anaheim (37.8°C) and the 110°F heat wave in Seattle (43.3°C) and then I noticed the weather icon on his laptop: 40°C at 7:00 pm in the evening; absolutely typical weather for him.

He laughed it off and said, "Yeah, here in India we're used to it, but I'm sure it's terrible for you guys."

I like him.

Congrats on the promotion Icy!

So if yours is Water and mine is Air, now I want to know if Amby has one and what it is. Or Scint. But somehow I doubt they do.

The Indian guys I've talked to have been terrified of Midwestern weather.

Well, *you* have winters and this stuff called "snow". These guys are in southern India; their lowest "lows" tend to be in the 50s. I was curious about their annual weather, and they're very much like the Bay Area but 20°F hotter, so just like us, any extremes are really hard on them. And his claim that 40°C (104°F) is "normal" for him is contraindicated by the weather history for his area -- they're much like the Central Valley in California, where all summer long the highs are in the mid-90s and their lows are in the high 60s or low 70s. So he was bragging a bit, methinks.

A guy I knew from SoCal said it best about Midwestern weather "I never felt more alive then the first year I lived in Wisconsin!"

Did he follow it up with the classic, "And by the second year I concluded that I never wanted to live in a place where it snows ever again!"?

Everybody, please keep your fingers crossed for my mom and Eve! They have an interested buyer and are hoping for an offer on their house!

Since the offer they had accepted on the house they're trying to buy in Maine is contingent on the sale of the Oregon house, this really needs to happen.

I swear, Albany kids.

Last night they went out for a "night on the town" wandering around Albany, and ended up at a CVS (a local pharmacy chain) at 10:00 pm at night just poking around. And somehow they concluded that if they didn't buy anything they'd be suspected of being shoplifters, so they bought a bag of thin balloons, went to the park, and spent an hour making balloon animals in a park in the middle of the night.

These are not their parents' thugs.

I've been watching The Purge (the movie) on Peacock.

I'm not going to lie, having Cersei in a bad wig the whole movie and also casting her as a sympathetic character is more than a little distracting.

I wouldn't call CVS a local chain. They're all over the place.

Yeah, I remember when CVS gobbled up the Eckerd's chain of Pharmacies in South Florida. I had not seen a CVS before college; they're everywhere in the last two decades, though.

This friggin' guy... He stays here 1 night every week, and ever since our business started picking back up, and our rates rose, he keeps complaining about "Why isn't it the same rate as it was back then?" I mean, you see the freakin' rate when you book the room online and agree to pay that, so you know what the rate is. It's not a surprise. If he doesn't like paying that rate, then he should book somewhere cheaper. Or just shut up and quit bugging me about it. Because I'm not gonna do anything about it other than shrug and say "That's the rate you agreed to when you booked the room."

First time running in a month. The air temp was only 74 but the humidity is 97%. It felt like I was breathing soup.

But, after a month of no exercise and Eve's cooking, it felt good to get back out there.

just because I want to do room parties doesn't mean I'm going to mess up the place! At worst I will call the front desk, knowing you and or rey are there and roll dice, telling you what random encounter is coming.

I will also be honest with the mini bar.
