Red Dead Redemption 2 is too depressing to play during the winter and it's too boring to play in the summer.
That's too bad -- we just downloaded it. GothBard and Shiro played until within 10 minutes they hit the "you must play with a complete stranger to proceed" quest and both quit. We're going to try it tonight, but forcing you to play with random people from the internet is what makes people uninstall games.
Fallout 76 became too much of a grind with their everything everywhere is the same level as you b&@~@@@* so I uninstalled it.
A-yep.
EDIT: And when I game, I game nekkid.

I'm still playing battletech with fawtl named mechs. Its fun, but the game is starting to plateau. Which is no reflection on you guys, thr game always plateaus at a certain point, as much fun as mods are.
I'm also playing werewolf. It's a bit of a disappointment but I'm hoping for mods to make the game a bit more engaging. The fanbade has been a bit immature with respect to the game reception, as if they learned nothing from the first Vampire game!
I'm also playing Star Wars The Old Republic but only intermittently. Its little more than a click based movie to me. Which is unfair, perhaps, but I hate mmos and will not engage with other players on any circumstances.

You must be playing Red Dead Online, that's an entirely different beast, just as boring, but now you have to deal with a#~+&!%s like my brother that like to hide and shoot people's horses as they ride by.

Yeah. I argued against it because I'd heard that sort of stuff, but most MMORPGs let you set a, "No PvP" flag. If RDO doesn't, it will go into the trash in under an evening.

Aaaaand... California has now passed New York to have the most COVID fatalities of any state in the union.
After a fantastic response in March of 2020, we gave in to the stupid.
Yay, us?
EDIT: In all fairness, I read a really depressing article by a Southern California latina who described how many Latin American communities in Southern California are still very traditional: All social interaction is in-person, you get jobs through word of mouth through friends and relatives, and no one has health insurance and if you take a sick day you don't get paid (or even get fired). So entire communities tailor-made to spread the disease and have massive death rates. It was particularly sad because she described trying to convince her family, friends, and neighbors to take better precautions, and they simply did not have the means to adapt to the "new norm". If you're a part-time physical laborer, working online and/or taking days off is a non-option.

Yeah, changing the subject, anyone seen the video for Midwest Siri?
I'm dyin'.
1) Apologies if I went too far on that one, LM.
2) Yes. Saw that one a little while ago (last week?). What amuses me is that while I have absolutely heard that accent first hand, it's like people think ALL OF WISCONSIN and ALL OF MINNESOTA talks like that. I mean, I'm sure Mark Hoover does...a base of full blown SNL-Ditka-Chicago underneath that South Canada-Fargo...I'm sure Mark will come on here to deny it but I know the truth. Siri has no hope against that.

Though I have to say, when I was playing Assassin's Creed: Unity, when I tried to play through co-op mission for the first time (and failed to run it in solo mode, which is achievable from menu) I got a completely random, max level player who just dashed through it while I was barely capable of following him (he clearly knew what he was doing). It was as if some maxed folks were queuing for the first co-op mission available just to help the newbs get a bonus skill point or two.

So, the Impii and I were horsing around on Saturday, and I'm beginning to think Impus Minor might have cracked one of my ribs (an impressive feat). It's been 5 days and it's still remarkably painful. Online web doctors say, "Yeah, blows to the chest hurt for a LOOOONG time", but I did full-contact tae kwon do for years, so I'm used to having bruises covering my chest, and this one is both more painful and longer-lasting.
It's either age or a minor fracture. Either way, treatment is the same (rest it and don't get hit in the chest), so we'll see how it progresses.

I cracked my rib a few years ago it lingered on for about two months. Admittedly right after that I had to rake out 20 yards of top soil and then build three separate boulder walls so that might have affected my recovery time.
Yeah, I didn't hear any "crack", but the pain is abating much more slowly than I'd expect. On the other hand, I'm 30 years older and it isn't debilitating, so I'm thinking it's more likely a deep bruise that's taking its own sweet time to heal.

It's essay season again, and, with much wailing and grinding of teeth, I have required an outline.
...they will definitely thank me for this later because ooooof some of these needed an editing pass before they hit the actual essay phase.
That reminds me, due to some changes in the game on the modding tip, Scint is no longer the deadly fast, evasive assassin she once was. I understand why the changes to the game were made, and I do have the option to simply slap a pair of night vision goggles on Scint and just let her keep doing her thing, but out of the box she is going to become an extremely light scout akin to Woran. I am thinking of adding flamers to Scint instead of small lasers so she can become a lisamarlene-esque disabler, but I just don't know if it would be wise to put that many flamers on her especially as she lacks the heat sinks to operate in a square that is consistantly on fire.
Still, before the mod? Scint MVP all the way. Turned the tide of many a battle with her evasiveness and ability to place a shot directly between the shoulder blades and then get the hell out of dodge.

This. If you’re going to play RDR2, play the story mode. Nothing good comes from the online version.
Story mode was really well done. But it can be depressing.

I weathered the changes to FO76 alright (I was high level to begin with, so they didn’t make a huge difference), but the repetitiveness is wearing on me.
Still wrapping up Cyberpunk 2077, which I am loving even though I know it could have been better. And look forward to Mass Effect Legendary Edition!

Well, all four of us paid our $4.99 and did our 111 GB downloads, and Shiro confirms that just like Fallout 76 you can turn PvP down to "trivial" mode (they can shoot you but you can just ignore it), so everyone (except me) wants to give it a try.
I've seen 3 votes to 0 that there are too many griefers and not enough to do in online multiplayer mode, but we'll find out tonight.

I've cracked ribs twice, both times when fighting longsworders. Gave me bother for ages.

I'd sat that cracked rib is a rather mild outcome of finding onself at the wrong end of a longsword.

To be honest I could probably get through the main story but the repetitive crap that other games don't bother with, like having to shave, or watch what you eat or even hunting for your g+%*!!n camp when coupled with the main story are just a bit too much for me.

Ghost of Tsushima is by no means a stroll through Animal Crossing (though I would love a Ghost of Tsushima and Animal Crossing crossover) but it doesn't make me spend six hours fishing or having to go back to camp to sleep or shave every other day.
And the combat is so much fun! Plus they have Legends mode where you can play with other people and earn nifty hats and armor.

I start at 2 am, I think we'll only get about an inch and it's pretty fluffy on account of nearly subzero temperatures so it shouldn't take too long.
Which is good because we should get another inch or two tomorrow night too, when it'll be even colder.
But at least I'll have something to do, so no complaints.

So, if any of you are old enough to remember the original EverQuest, where journeys were in real-time so it took 10 hours to get from one island to another, Red Dead Online is for you!
I've been playing just under an hour and a half now. And it's been pretty much solid, "Ride for 10 minutes to perform this trivial 30-second task. Now ride for 15 minutes to do this other trivial 30-second task."
On the last one, I set my horse on autopilot and wandered off to do other things, and I still got bored waiting for the d****d horse to get wherever it was I was supposed to be.

I didn’t play RDO long enough to know whether the trains work like the do in story mode. Eventually I just started taking them everywhere.

So, Red Dead Online should really be titled, Red Dead Genocide.
First, the keys are set up to force you to be a bad guy. The standard interact key for MMORPGs? E. What it does in Red Dead Online? Roughs up the NPC you're trying to talk to. So I got beat up and nearly killed. GothBard got beat up and killed. After 2.5 hours of pointless riding through the desert and accidentally picking fights with townsfolk, we finally got a mission: Protect a caravan.
Shiro took front, GothBard took middle, and I took back. Everything went swimmingly. I completely ignored all the red "Wanted" warnings flashing across the top of my screen.
Except... to make the caravan "harder", they mixed lawmen in with the bad guys, so if you shot the wrong person you became wanted by the law. And I shot anyone who happened to come up behind us. I finally figured I was probably in trouble when it said, "10 lawmen killed."
We got to the caravan drop-off safely, I had to stop to kill a few more lawmen, and I joined Shiro and GothBard. And a lawman ran in and shot Shiro.
Now, roughly 7 days a week, roughly 2 hours a day, GothBard and Shiro play Far Cry 5 together. They love shootin' Peggies. And they were utterly fed up with trying to be nice.
The lawmen came, 2-4 at a time. For nearly half an hour. The bodies were piled by the dozens. Achievements like "butcher" and "sharpshooter" were flying across the screen. Once we were running low-ish on ammo, we decided to leave.
So while it's probably not how Red Dead Online is supposed to be played, we had a hootin' good time mowing down around 80-100 lawmen because we were frustrated and we needed to take out our frustrations on someone. They just happened to get in the way...
