This is beyond the pale of awful. I’m so sorry my friend. I hope everyone recovers quickly and those two broken people realize how thoroughly they’ve left basic human decency. (Seems more likely they are the kind to blame anyone other than themselves for their own misfortune, no matter what, but we can at least pray.)

Okay YouTube App...
I put on sleep talk down meditation, you play ad for a meditation app. Cool.
I put on a video game lets play video, you put on an ad for a new video game. Cool.
I put on a songmix of stuff by "My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult," and... You ask me to donate to St. Jude's?
I mean, great cause, no complaints, but going from "I'm the electric messiah, the AC/DC god" to smiling baby recovering from cancer is a little jarring.
(And more on how effed up the autocorrect is on my new phone: it insists the band should be called "Thrill Kill Kilt" but when I mistype "little" as "littme" it decides that's just fine. )

There is a song I keep wanting to hear.
I know the name. I know who sings it.
Every single daggum time I go to YouTube, I foreget what song it was I’ve been wanting to hear. Every. Single. Time.
This has happened several times over the last couple of days. Happened just now. DQ mentions YouTube, and “Oh, yeah!” I rush over to put the song in and... blank. Whyyyyyyyyyy

Lord Synos, that's awful. So sorry to hear that. I'm glad the police were on your side at least. That sadly isn't a given either, these days.
The racial bias in the Gardaí isn't as much as a problem here in Ireland as it is in the US. Our main problem is that they generally refuse to do anything to certain segments of society, for fear of reprisal. Hopefully won't be the case in this scenario.

Gotta love people. I got to work tonight, went into the bathroom to change clothes, and saw the toilet was clogged up. And it had to be intentional. You don't throw a softball sized wad of paper towels (not toilet paper, but paper towels) into a toilet accidentally.
Yeah, that's one of the ones that just fundamentally gets to me: The intentionally-befouled bathroom to the point of, "Who the **** raised you, if anyone?"
I was an 80s punker. Vandalism was fun. But we never vandalized bathrooms. Because when you gotta go, you gotta go. So WTF?

Well, honestly there are quite a few strong reasons we shouldn't move now:
(1) GothBard's mother is widowed and alone; we're the only family anywhere near her, and she doesn't travel well. So abandoning her and taking her only grandkids with us would be cruelty in the extreme.
(2) While Global Megacorporation truly is global (I could quite literally move anywhere in the world with an internet connection and continue in my current job), GothBard actually has to, y'know, go into an office and work, so we're restricted to cities with gaming companies that are hiring.
(3) Uprooting the kids' lives at 15 and 18 and taking them away from all their friends and everything they know isn't something I take lightly.
(4) I really, really love my kids. To the point that I dread the day that they move out. If I change continents without them, I'm far less likely to see them as often because of the whole "10+-hour plane ride" thing.
California is still a great place to live if you can afford it, and our government sits in strong opposition to the Feds. But for how long can we maintain it? The last tax law was a shot across our bow, raising Californians' taxes significantly to cut corporate taxes and bribe Midwestern voters, and the country as a whole is in an unsustainable tailspin of deficit spending.
It's going to all collapse sooner or later, and I'd rather be an ocean away when it does.

Wow, I'm looking at my schedule and I have a busy November.
30-31st August: Warhorns Folk/Black Metal Festival, probably not going due to it being moved to another city - but a few great bands on.
14th September: Village Beer Festival - Drinking beer in a graveyard, whilst children throw toys from the steeple.
14th September: Seems afterwards I've got tickets for a Wrestling Event in town.
2nd November: Damnation Festival - A host of amazing bands, including Opeth, Alcest.
9th November: Limehouse Lizzy - Thin Lizzy cover band that play locally.
22 or 23 Nov: Otley Beer Festival - The best beer festival I've been to, just a pity it finishes around 6pm.
23rd November: Ghost - supposedly great band, though might go straight from beer festival to them!
28th November: Cult of Luna - another interesting band.
Hope things are going well for everyone, and sorry to hear that you've been affected by people like that Lord Synos
PS. *NobodysHome: Regarding point 2) there's always Rockstar Leeds, to join Limey & I (this is a humourous joke, since the other points hold great weight)

LOL. We've got Sabaton, Battle Beast, and possibly Alestorm and/or Gloryhammer coming for their Fall U.S. tours, so we are similarly looking forward to great concerts in the near future.
(If you've never seen Sabaton or Battle Beast live, DO IT, whether or not you like metal. Joaquim and Noora ooze Charisma like nobody's business.)

I agree, I saw Sabaton twice and despite not being exactly my cup of tea - he was amazing and really nice. (Swedish Airlines had lost his 'iconic vest' so he borrowed one from a chap in the audience and invited him on stage for VIP treatment)
We're incredibly fortunate in that Sabaton isn't all that big in the States, so they're usually in a hall with all of 800 people, making it a really "intimate" experience, and they stick around and talk to fans afterwards.
And yeah, at our first Sabaton concert he invited a 4-year-old boy (with hard ear covers) up on stage, praised him for protecting his ears, then let him dance about on stage for a full number.
Then had him bow with the band when they finally closed the show.
Amazing!

Sounds brilliant.
Other than a couple of festivals, I don't think I've been to a gig with more than 800 people*. But it is great to see how the bands act, they are mostly really friendly - especially with one of my friends who's an 80 year old granny.
*the smallest crowd was Immortal, where only 13 people turned up. Which was criminal for such a good band.

I see Battle Beast is touring nearby, and caught Sabaton early in their tour, but don't see any US dates for Alestorm or Gloryhammer (Canada has a few). Sadness.
So, Impus Major pays attention to all things Alestorm and there are all kinds of clues that they're working on a new album at this very moment. Considering their "drink until you fall on the floor unconscious, then record a song" work ethic, I'd expect the album to be out late this year or early next year, at which point they'll announce a tour.
I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for sooner. Alestorm is awesome in concert.
And yes, if they tour, I'm betting Gloryhammer follows them.

Life With Teenagers:
NobodysHome: Hey, Impus Minor. Notice that it's supposed to hit the mid-80s today, so I've closed all the windows and curtains in the rest of the house to keep the heat out. I notice that your windows are all open and your curtains are up. If you don't do anything, your room is going to be an oven this afternoon.
Impus Minor (Not even looking up from his game): OK. Thanks, Dad!
(One hour later)
<NobodysHome closes the door to Impus Minor's already-excessively-warm room, but leaves the windows open and curtains up, because experience is the best teacher>
I'm guessing it'll hit between 90 and 95 in his room this afternoon, since it's sun-facing. Fun times!

In my state, on our jury registration forms or during voir dire they used to ask you your religion and level of education. Between "Quaker" and "Master's degree" I was always sent away. For some reason a lot of lawyers didn't want a religious people known for being highly liberal and challenging the justice system (to improve it) and someone with potentially high critical thinking skills on the jury. But they changed the law so they can't ask you those questions now, to prevent religious discrimination (and I guess educational). Still, even when I did serve on a jury one time, when I was administered the oath of service, and I said "I affirm" (rather than "I swear") I saw the "oh f$~&" in the eyes of the lawyers in the room. Too late!
