Lawyer: Your honor, without bias or prejudice, I wish to thank Mr. Home for his service and excuse him from the jury.
Judge: Granted.

As you say, if there is a single indicator of how bad the U.S. judicial system is, it's how hard they try to keep logical thinkers off of juries.

EDIT: Hey... maybe it wasn't my job that made them dismiss me after all...

Well, honestly there are quite a few strong reasons we shouldn't move now:

(1) GothBard's mother is widowed and alone; we're the only family anywhere near her, and she doesn't travel well. So abandoning her and taking her only grandkids with us would be cruelty in the extreme.

(2) While Global Megacorporation truly is global (I could quite literally move anywhere in the world with an internet connection and continue in my current job), GothBard actually has to, y'know, go into an office and work, so we're restricted to cities with gaming companies that are hiring.

(3) Uprooting the kids' lives at 15 and 18 and taking them away from all their friends and everything they know isn't something I take lightly.

(4) I really, really love my kids. To the point that I dread the day that they move out. If I change continents without them, I'm far less likely to see them as often because of the whole "10+-hour plane ride" thing.

Politics...

Spoiler:
NH, IMHO there is no where to run anymore. Between the rise of Fascism and the looming environmental Disasters that might be on par with the Permian extinction, we are f!@$ed. I am hoping I am wrong, but between the USA, Brazil, Australia, Russia, and what is going on in China, India and Pakistan, I don't hold much hope. Add on the nearly 8+ billion population and that is a force multiplier.

P.S. - On the other hand, we have to fight or we are really screwed.

Wow... I've started a trend... :-P

So...

The politics will continue until morale improves:
Unlike Sharoth, I am fairly optimistic about some areas in the future: The Nordic countries are leading the way in showing how countries should be run, and their problems, while extant, are quite minor compared to ours.

The population will stabilize. Global warming is survivable. Yes, 80-90% of the human race will be living in abject misery because the 1% cannot share. There will be famine, and warfare, and pestilence. But humanity will survive, and there will be places that remain pleasant to live.

To me, the U.S. is already lost. Corporations have taken over the government, and created a system whereby children are no longer educated, but rather indoctrinated and taught that they cannot escape the current system. This leads to a 30% voter turnout rate and voters who see nothing beyond Red and Blue, seemingly unawares that the leaders of both parties are beholden to corporations, not people. Gerrymandering cements this apathy.

So, if the U.S. population surprises me next year and votes Trump out, I will be pleasantly surprised and stick around for a while. If they reelect him, it's really a sign that the U.S. is lost, and I should fight the good fight in a country where it still matters.

EDIT: I mean, let's be honest. I live in frigging California. The Democrats hold a supermajority in all branches of government, and the result is largely positive: We're running a budget surplus every year, we're maintaining strong environmental protections, and we're thumbing our nose at the Trump administration to the point that he targeted us (and New York) specifically with a rather nasty tax hike. But California's skewing too far to the left and building its own doomed-to-topple catastrophic house of cards. (I'll just mention mandatory growth as a major issue in my already-overpopulated area.) And I'm not hopeful that with our current extremely-flawed two-party voting system that California will hold out for more than another decade or two. I'd like to live in a country with at least four viable parties, thanks. And preferably more.

I would move there in a heartbeat, but...well first off...how does one go about moving to a nation when your own considers you a leach due to having mental disorders? I mean you can't just up and leave. Visas and passports and...jobs and stuff.

Poor people are screwed. The irony is we are the ones complaining, rich at the top say "if you don't like it leave" and when we ask how they stop listening. Probably because they realize we would be refugees they hate so much.

LOL. Yeah, as I openly admit, if I didn't give away around 10% of my income to people I felt needed it more, leveraged my property ownership a bit more, and cared far more about money to the point of switching jobs every year or two just to get raises (as Shiro has done), I'd be able to retire by now.

As is, I am crippled by kindness, loyalty, and sloth. I'm not ashamed of it, but "true capitalists" and Randians think I have a mental disorder.

If NH wishes to move countries:

If, as is likely, we exit the EU without a deal, there may well be another Scottish independence referendum, and there's a strong chance that the pro-independence side will win it. A Scotland outside the UK would probably want to rejoin the EU.

Also, how about the Republic of SynosIreland? (Majority) English speaking, and a thriving tech sector, IIRC

Bands wise, I have:

* Derya Yildirim and Group Simsek on the 31st
* The Once and Future Band on the 7th of Sept
* King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and The Comet Is Coming, in October
* Maybe 'Sleep' in early Oct, if they haven't sold out
* Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, and 'Earth', in November.

And there'll always be an England, supposing that are gluoriuos premmier doesn't sell it to the King of America to make a giant golf course, for £2.50 and a viable nuclear deterrent.

My grandmother used to tell my aunt that she'd never have anything. Apparently, she didn't mean it in a mean way (is that possible?), just that because she was so generous and giving, she'd never have anything for herself. It's held true, unfortunately, as she is one of the kindest, most generous people I know, and now in her 80's, she barely has a roof over her head.

I like to be generous, where I can, I think it's a great trait. But I don't give more than I can afford, which isn't much these days.

Anyways, rambling aside, I just wanted to say that I think those are great traits to have, and to heck with the capitalists.

Ah, the little victories in life!

The sprinklers have all been going off correctly all week long, and not a single drop has gone into the sump pump.

So I'm successfully watering my lawn, I'm doing it at the right time of day, and I'm not wasting any excess water doing it. Woo hoo!

Yes, a pet peeve in drought-ridden California is watching people water their lawns to the point that they create veritable rivers in the gutter with overflow. Or the simple fact that we're a water-starved state and the utilities impose penalties on people who use more than 1,000 gallons a day, and lots of people break that limit, especially in Southern California, which IS A DESERT!!!

(I was at 155 gallons/day for 4 people before I started watering, so still well below the 50 gallons per person per day "ultimate goal by 2050" politicians have proposed. Just don't water your lawn and it's not hard.)
