After all of GothBard's and Impus Minor's issues with iPhones (and mine), and Apple's intentional throttling of and forced obsolescence of older iPhones, I've decided that I'm going to transition back to a flip phone.
Because my phone is a phone, not a toy.
Everyone I mentioned that idea to said, "Oh, gods! Don't! They're even worse!"
Not a ringing endorsement...

I asked him.
He says it's not on Lulu, but it *is* on Amazon.co.uk.

iPhone users have a hard time switching away. It doesn't mean the android is bad, it means the interface is different.

No idea what she charges.
Those are very very nice. I'll have to look into her when I need art =) Thanks!

Okay, yes, I'm dressed, but there should be a sub-clause that you're not naked at the top of the thread if you're talking about something really serious.

I've had Androids that I've loved and Androids that I've loathed.
My experience has been,(a) the device itself, even a cheapo one, will last a damned long time, but
(b) they load them up with crap you can't delete, and
(c) user satisfaction totally depends on how much internal memory it comes with.
After watching my mom and sister go through a few cycles of "this phone was working perfectly well, but now it's useless because they ended all support for it when this newer model came out and now I'm forced to upgrade", I wouldn't take an iPhone if it were free. My upgrade wishlist devices are all Androids, just nicer ones than mine.

The 10KM Competitive Cashback Run gives you the chance to win Meiji Cashback Vouchers depending on the timings you hit. So whether you are an aspiring marathoner looking to clock your best time or someone who’s already bagged multiple marathon medals, have a go at this race to win cashback vouchers that can be used at the Meiji Fair during the event’s weekend for discounted snacks.
The cashback vouchers are as follows:
Below 60mins - $10
Below 50mins - $20
Below 40mins - $50
But I'll tell you below 60 min is already not that easy - Fort Siloso area is hilly. Palawan is ok for running, np. My timing for 10 km is 1h 12 min (but terrain was completely flat). I wonder if I can actually shave off 12 min off that timing to even get cashback vouchers, between now and end June.

what you do is get a monthly phone, that way you aren't too attached if it breaks or frustrates you. And you get the added bonus of annoying the shit out of friends and family alike by getting a new phone number every several months, unless you're one of Those People that remember passwords.

The Google Pixel line is bare bones stock Android. No extra crap preloaded (I'm looking at you in particular, Samsung).
I've had my Pixel XL for almost three years without an issue.

I've never had a smartphone, have barely ever touched them, but I can tell you this. I have a friend who has had pretty much every iPhone since the 4, and he recently spent 3 months with both the newest iPhone and an Android phone (I think it was a Samsung, but I'm not sure. I could ask him if anyone is interested.) and decided that the Android was far superior (for him, everyone's different) and switched to it.

I'm camping at my aunts place for 2 weeks because my mom commented about me having to wake up at 5.30 am in the morning(she will get up at the same time just to make sure I don't leave anything behind even when I told her not to). It'll be a week of self meal planning without anyone to naysay what I eat. Which is fun!
I forsee a whole lot of tau kwa, teriyaki chicken breast and cauliflower in the future. Which sounds like a happy mix =)

It's Crookshanks' birthday today, she turns 15.
F!$& you, time.
Hey! Now she's old enough to date Impus Major!
Pros:
1) sanity
2) long-distance prevents hanky-panky
3) I.M. can tell scary girl "Sorry, I'm taken."
Cons:
Cap might kill me for suggesting it.
Seriously, though,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CROOKSHANKS!

Yeah, they're expensive, but my plan has us paying off the phones as part of our regular phone bill, which makes it workable.

I am assuming that Vany meant this scene, which is cropped here so you can't even tell that she's in a kitchen and (I believe) even fell off a stool.
Can I say again, I absolutely love how brilliantly this show was cast?
I liked everyone except for shadow, who was *WAY* too hot to be as described in the original work. In my mind, he was a young Forrest Whittaker.

Well, this may or may not be considered "political", so:
Politically, I vehemently oppose privatization of government services, except...
When a private company needs to cut hours, it looks for its busiest times and it keeps those times staffed. So maybe it cuts to a 3-7 pm work shift, or a 7-11 am work shift, but it makes sure that people can get there before or after work.
Government agencies providing services do the exact opposite: "If we have to schedule a half day anyway, let's do it during the quietest time of day so we only need a minimum number of staff," and you get a 10:00 am - 3:00 pm half day with a noon - 1:00 pm lunch break, so anyone who actually works can't get there without taking time off from work.
Yeah, yesterday I was trying to submit the payment for Impus Minor's birthday reservation (reserving a park in Berkeley) and they'd cut their hours to close at 4:30 pm, just enough so that I couldn't make it after getting off work at 4.
Grr...
EDIT: And yes, being a government outfit, they don't have a mechanism for you to pay online; you actually have to go in to the office and physically pay. Barbarians!
Oh, and happy birthday, Crookshanks!

In reply to NobodysHome:
For an IT project, we had to visit every minicipial in the netherlands. It could potentially be a lot of work, depending on the local IT infrastructure. So we wanted to always start at 8:30. The amount of grief we got for wanting to start 'so early' was astounding.

In reply to NobodysHome:
** spoiler omitted **
Oh, Europe is an entirely different kettle of fish. I was teaching a course up in Montreal, and my fellow trainers warned me that the company where I was delivering the training ran on "European time".
Sure enough, we didn't start class until 45 minutes after the hour, and then when I gave them a 1-hour lunch break they vanished for 3 hours. Their "10 minute" breaks were typically 30-40 minutes long. I offered to stay late to let them catch up, but by 5:30 pm they'd all left.
So, losing nearly 3 hours a day on a 5-day course, I had to skip a lot of stuff.
And of course I got excoriated on my reviews for "going too fast" and "not giving them enough time for the labs."
Fortunately, I'd been reporting the students' behavior to both my manager and their manager, so *I* didn't get in trouble for it.
But seriously. Your company's paying $750/hour to bring in a personal trainer for 24 of you, and you can't be bothered to actually show up?

Very yay. Means the kids can't tab out to look up answers, and I can still do paperless testing without worrying that someone's cheating the instant my back is turned.
The children were visibly upset that Google has done this.
