Looking through my aliases. I've decided the best one if I could only keep one is for sure the bear. The most underappreciated is very simple commoner.

It takes on average 2 days to mess up your sleep pattern and 2 weeks to get comfortable with a new one.

Really half of me is missing? Thanks, I've been working on it!

I only lost about 5-8 kg? Which is equivalent of 11 - 17 lbs?

Eh I think 20-ish pounds usually is a noticeable lose on about anyone. Unless your like real real big.

Or is there something wrong with the uploaded picture that you can only see half of me?

No no you for sure lost some weight or at least turned it into muscle.

The Exchange

But I don't look particularly muscular or lean, do I? Though I don't think anyone would call me fat...

Yeah no danger of fat but I wouldn't say overly muscular igther.

Okay, I give up and I am turning to you guys for help.

There are a pair of webcomics I used to follow that I cannot find anymore and that is largely because I cant remember the name of them.

One of them was about a group of kids from different races with legendary weapons that are iconic of that race trying to get along after a long war. They are the Hope's of their people, but the powers that be naturally want war to return so they can get payback, etc.

The other was a strange one with necromancy, golems, high magic, and a strange society where black people were some weird turian-like society.

I know this makes things clear as mud but still...wondering if anyone can help.

The first one sounds familiar... [EDIT: Removed spoiler, in case it was too much of a spoiler]. I found the one I was thinking of, it this it?

No clue on the second one, but it sounds like one I'd be interested in reading. Any more details you can remember? Any place or people names?

HOLY S@$* YES IT IS! THANK YOU SO MUCH I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOREVER!

The second one was a strange comic with a golem protecting a kid, and then the golem got lost and had to protect someone else...it was a little all over the place. But that last bit started to add some stability to the comic, and was an interesting aspect of the world to explore.

Had a great day at Gardens by the Bay,

And will have another good one tomorrow.

Family popiah party!

I plan on having a great day preparing myself for the inevitable snow storm this afternoon, the rest of the family is super grumpy though.

Ooo I like the Minotaur. Seeing as how your a morning person isn't that like every day for you?

Yeah but February has everyone especially grumpy.

All gloom and no doom make people go something, something...

OMG I had hoped I had inspired that alias (with my jack Nicholson reference the other day) but it looks like you have had it for awhile.

In case you missed it the other day the winter blues usually comes from not getting enough sun which your body turns sunlight into Vitamin D. So not enough vitamin D makes you grumpy.

You don't say! I've never heard that before, living in a place with 6-7 months of winter nearly my entire life.

Spoiler:
I'm expecting a denial for the very same reason. Had a colonoscopy last month, I thought about asking "Is the anesthesiologist and anesthesia covered?, but didn't want that to somehow get back to the insurance company and end with them saying "...but you had a choice! DENIED!!! NO RECOURSE!!!"

So, a question for anyone who wants to answer:

Other people have done this throughout my life, but our indefinite house guest Yellow does it pretty frequently so it's come to my attention. They'll* try some new food, or even some new combination of foods, decide they like it, and then tell us about it, and I'll think "...Well of course it's tasty, the components are tasty and there's no reason they wouldn't go well together," or "Well duh, this is a minor variation of something else you like!"

*Yellow is one o' them non-binary sorts.

For example, on Friday we got chinese for dinner and ended up with a lot of leftover fried rice, as you do. On Saturday, Mrs Sunrise made steak with this delicious wine sauce that she makes. On Sunday, Yellow is eating leftovers and says to me "I've discovered that Mrs Sunrise's wine sauce goes really well with fried rice!" as if it were an unexpected thing. Like, they must have had some inkling that it would taste good else why do it, but they seemed to be in a state of wonderment that it did.

And I thought "Well fried rice is good, the wine sauce is good, there's no reason they wouldn't mix well with each other, of course fried rice with wine sauce is good."

So I guess my question is...do other people feel confident in predicting what they're going to like like I am? Or am I an anomaly?

I tend to like what I eat and believe I will not like what I don't eat. Sometimes I get surprised. Very rarely I will see something new and think "I am going to like this".

We're finally down to a low of 35°F, meaning we're having what the rest of the country might call, "Mildly chilly weather."

I'm surprised this doesn't have the entire area in a state of weather-related panic.

No, you're not an anomaly, but then again, neither is Yellow.

Basically, there are people out there that cannot conceive of how something will taste if they've never tasted it before, even if they've tasted all the ingredients separately.

That said, even things that you like separately does not guarantee you will like them together. Separately, I kind of like my toothpaste - it's minty and refreshing. Separately, I really like earl grey tea. See where I'm going with this?

I'm betting Yellow can't conceptualize flavor without actually experiencing the flavor. So put toothpaste in their tea*.

*No don't actually do this. That's more cruelty than even I'm capable of in the name of comedy.

Well I generally know what I like - almost anything =P

And almost all the time I'd be game to try something at least once. Like pouring seasoned jellyfish over my salad.

If I try it and find I don't like it(like I've come to the conclusion that shrimp and crab are better cooked - I've taken raw shrimp and crab and don't find them that good), then it's a learning point for me.

I'll try anything once.

Did not like jellyfish.

Loooooove takoyaki.

I have almost no sense of smell or taste, so it all tastes like chicken to me.

Edit: And in fairness I probably exaggerate my lack of smell and taste, I do taste things and smell stuff just not as much.

Illinois and Seattle traded weather. Or flipped places. We're suddenly bouncing around the 30's - 50's with three straight days of rain.

Well, my day has improved significantly!

I went to my CPA to do our taxes today, wincing at the notion of, "Just how bad am I going to get hammered by the 'Coastal Tax Increase'," but it turns out that the conversion of children from deductions to credits manages to just barely make me not lose any money on the tax changes...
...this year.

Stupid kids! All growin' up and costin' me tax credits!

EDIT:

My best attempt at a non-political explanation for furriners:

U.S. tax law, in spite of its legendary complexity, was pretty simple: Calculate your gross total income. Deduct these allowable expenses such as mortgage interest, state income tax, and property tax, the idea being that you shouldn't be getting taxed twice, nor punished for having to borrow money to own a home.

The recent tax reduction/simplification included a $10,000 cap on total deductions for taxes (state income and property tax). $10,000 is a huge cap... except in the two "richest" states in the union: California and New York.
So for people living in those two states, the tax "cut" was frequently a wash, and disturbingly often a significant increase for those without kids. (Shiro thinks his taxes will go up by over 20% this year because of the cap.)
