Anyone else ever work with someone then they find out you play D&D and they invite themselves to your game? (He's totally not joining my game btw.)
Not exactly. I had a coworker who found out I played and he strongly hinted for a few weeks that he would like to join. I kept saying that it wasn't a good point in the story for a new player (which wasn't exactly true), but he kept trying to finagle an invite so I eventually cleared it with the rest of the group and brought him in. It went okay, but it didn't last long. Within a few weeks he got fired from the hotel and got a job somewhere else that required him to work during our game time. A few weeks later he got fired from that place, and tried to get me to bring him back in, but we never did.
Yeah I don't even want this guy to know where I live. His B.O. Is rough enough from 10 feet away let alone sitting next to me at a table.

Oh, yeah. That's bad. The guy I was talking about was just kind of a spotlight hog. Of course, he was used to playing in very small groups (a DM and 1, maybe 2, players) and at the time our group had a DM and around 7 players.

We only game nekkid on very special occasions.

Ever since I was burned I'm very particular about who I let into my games. Ye olde nekked gran.

Earlier today I said to my wife "Please remind me to call the doctor tomorrow." She asked "Which doctor?" I said "No. The regular kind."

You know, I keep asking what LGBT stands for but I never get a straight answer.

And now, in case you missed it, here is the score from tonight's big game at halftime: Patriots 3, Rams 0, Maroon 5.

I think most of us are aware of Murphy's Law (whatever can go wrong, will), but do you know Cole's Law.

Cole's Law:

Thinly sliced cabbage and carrots, with mayonnaise and a light vinaigrette.

Reminds me of that old Cartoon called "silverhawks" There was an entire alien planet of mimes. Can you just imagine how horrible a natural disaster must be on that planet? IS there an actual tornado or are they just really talented?

You know gran somethings just aren't funny.

Beatings aren't funny
Stabbings aren't funny
mimes are not funny.

Yet somehow its hilarious to beat and stab a mime.

Just don't be careless. We all know that a mime is a terrible thing to waste.

Mouseketeer Role Call: (Or at least FaWtL):

Looks like our plans have shifted quite a bit from my original thoughts, because First Class Eurail tickets are stupid-cheap. ($42/day for unlimited travel in Europe in First Class? Seriously?!?!?)

So here's the tentative plan:

From July 6-28, we'll be hitting:
- London
- Edinburgh
- Paris
- Amsterdam
- Copenhagen
- Malmo, just to say we made it to Sweden and ride the train through the cool bridge/tunnel (brunnel?)

Are we getting closer to any FaWtLers who want to try to meet up with us for a "day tour" of one of those cities?

(Unfortunately, it's been over 30 years since I was fluent in German, and 20 years since I've even tried to mangle French, so I think we're going to be an "English-only/Google Translate" group, though after 4 years of it Impus Major really ought to be able to get us by in the many Spanish-speaking nations we're visiting.

Oh, whoops...

And people always wonder why I take the train instead of the car. Sure I have a car. But if I want to go to an event in germany, on my own (mostly playing Ingress), I can sit in the car for 5 hours, on my own. Or sit in a train for 5 hours. On my own. Guess what I prefer?

Train is cheaper and more convenient. I end up in the middle of a city, and can read a book the whole way there! And generally I have to change trains only once.

Anyway, Amsterdam is only 20 mins (by train) away from where I live! Depending on when you're there, I would love to meet up!

I'm sure shipping costs would be outrageous at that point... probably still cheaper then a plane and less violating.

There's nothing to see in Antarctica. Besides the goods cabins are not pressurised, so the moment he gets high enough he'll suffocate due to not enough oxygen. Its a freaking death sentence!

I'm not too keen on salmon. I dont think its gross, but I dont think its yummie either.

I make a firecracker salmon and a teriyaki salmon both are good imo.

Dude, seriously!

I'm going to start flagging it.

Private messages exist for a reason.

I would say we could start another thread but I actually think all politics are banned on the forum now that I think about it. something like that anyways?

Does that extend to other countries politics that aren't as contentious or that are as well? like I can't talk about brexit either right? Can I still criticize North Korea? Probably best to just avoid them all I suppose but how about barely-related to real world political philosophy?

No politics, period.

Morning FaWtLites. Hope everyone had a good weekend, and that their week is off to a good start. :)

Dark Archive

I had a discussion with a friend recently, and I wanted to poll my fellow FaWtLers, see your take.

The week starts on:

Monday [X]

Sunday [ ]

I say the week starts on Monday, but my friend, from Brazil, is adamant it starts on Sunday.

So they are called weekends because they are the book ends for the week. week starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday.

So my vote is Sunday.

Calendars here in America say that the week starts on a Sunday.

Ah, but are they the weekends, or the weekend? If Saturday/Sunday are the weekend, then Sunday can't also be the week-start, savvy?

I wonder if this will be a continental thing?

The week starts on Monday so we can have Monday blues?

I always thought it started on Monday, then at Toys R Us they had it starting on Sunday.

Of course, now that it's winter I have no idea what day of the week it is, much less where it starts.

So my answer: Inconclusive, ask again in April.

Hmm google says: Monday is the first day of the week according to the international standard ISO 8601, but in the US, Canada, and Japan it's counted as the second day of the week. Monday comes after Sunday and before Tuesday in our modern day Gregorian Calendar.

So apparently it is a continental thing.

Edit: I got a favorite on this one because I finally remembered to use that google thing and people are proud.

Week starts monday, or else the 'day of rest' (sunday) would be before you did any work.

Awesome! The calendar is getting finalized this week, so I'll let you know.

As for travel by train, in 1987 I traveled all of Europe on a Eurail pass and had no issues. GothBard was amazed when we went to London and could get an all-day pass to anywhere for 7 pounds.

In the U.S. rail travel is a cruel joke. There's a train from here to Seattle that I could use to visit my family. It's a 22-hour trip... except it is routinely 12 hours late, and sometimes up to 24.

Imagine being stuck on a train for an extra TWELVE HOURS. Every time you rode it.

I don't know what Amtrak does, but they're really, really bad at it.

I'm in the U.S., and I say Monday. Even though all the calendars I buy say Sunday. How does a week start on a weekend/day of rest?
