Me at 50. With the eye patch.
What you want is a floppy hat with a great big feather in it. You could do a pretty decent musketeer with that, and your 'tache :)

Well, after some trial and error I have found the optimal time for school pickup. If I arrive half an hour before the end of day bell there are still plenty of spots on the far side of the horseshoe drive because everyone crowds onto the near side for some unexplainable reason. Kid can walk a few extra feet to get to the car. It doesn't even bother him. And since when you park on the far side of the drive nobody cares about your spot, I don't have to even pay attention or worry about moving the car at all. I just put it in park and knit while I wait for him. Which beats sitting in a traffic jam for a half hour which is what happens if you show up only fifteen minutes before the bell. Not making that mistake again if I can help it. Although in the morning dropping the kidlet off only fifteen minutes early means we beat the rush. Apparently it's a madhouse if you try to drop your kid off five minutes before the bell. There were a whole series of exasperated emails from the school over the last week dealing with parent complaints about their new traffic plan. Doesn't bother me any since we're new at this school and weren't familiar with the old plan, but it seems some people really, really don't adapt well to change.

So, I don't know how many of you are familiar with the opening of Shaolin Soccer, but at one point, as the protagonist is describing the benefits to society if everyone would learn kung-fu, he talks about how easy it would be for people to parallel park. The image is of a woman stopping in the middle of the road, stepping out, standing beside her car, and doing an open-palm strike to knock the car into position.
Trying to drive past any of the schools in Albany in the morning, I seriously wish that every school had a "kung fu employee" who would pace the street in front of the school, knocking all the double-parkers clear out of the road. NobodysWife had a classic example this morning: After 8:00 am, all the spaces in front of the school clear out and are open for parking. So she pulled into one. There were at least 4 spaces in front of her. Instead of using those spaces, the driver in the car behind her stopped in the middle of the road, let the young girl out, talked to her for a minute, checked her text messages, and finally, after about 90 seconds of blocking 6 other cars, drove on.
And considering Albany is all of 1 square mile, the notion that people are dropping off their middle schoolers by car in the first place really bothers me. (When I was a kid I was diagonally opposite the school so it was a whopping 1.4 miles. So I biked. Every day. And when it rained, I walked.)
(Full Disclosure: NobodysWife was there because Impus Minor had forgotten a permission slip, not because she was dropping him off.)

Maybe. Just wish I didn't feel so tired and worn out all the time. Wish I didn't feel so ... old.
Okay, so I'm like a decade younger than you, so maybe I shouldn't be giving advice here, but thanks to chronic illness(es) I've been dealing with 'old people problems' since I was a teen, so I honestly have trouble associating physical ailments with age. That said, the best antidote I know for dealing with an uncooperative body is acting like a three year old. Color some pictures in crayon, finger paint, splash in mud puddles, spend time studying a bug just because, take a nap, dance like a muppet, ask why until the person you're talking to totally breaks down, etc. Hard to feel old when you're being totally immature. Also, those things are all ridiculously fun. :P

And belated thanks to those who supplies hugs and encouragement before. It helped. A lot. I am doing better, but it's a process. Adjusting better to the new sleep schedule, which helps. My depression always flares up when I'm not getting enough sleep.
loads up Hug Cannon for next barrage

lol. I wish I could favorite this twice. Kung fu parking. XD
Since I deal with this every day this probably strikes me as way funnier than it actually is, but it's such an awesome visual for that person who just has to drop off their kid and their instrument and sports equipment from the drive lane....yeah, kung fu parking would definitely help. ;P

We walk to and from school.
No traffic and no parking issues.
Of course, that requires walking, and having your schools both within a mile helps (as long as you take shortcuts).
Oh, yeah. By the time the kids were 7 it was, "Nope. You have to walk. EVERY DAY. Because we're not driving in THAT mess."
And an awesome note from Shiro:
So, this guy on TV asked the televangelist if he could help with his hearing... after 5 minutes of shouting, violent shaking and holding his head the evangelist asked if his hearing was improved. The guy said, I don't know... the court date isn't until next Wednesday.

I seriously miss the kidlet being able to walk to school. That worked out well for middle school. But the high school he wanted is all the way across town, so my time is no longer my own. But the school is way better and super organized. We didn't even have to track down a counselor during the first week to remind them about the kidlet's IEP. They actually took care of the things they were supposed to take care of. So that's worth the driving.
But I'm still gonna kvetch about the traffic because it's annoying. :P

I'm still pissed they didn't make me parallel park when I took my driving test.
Because she asked me to parallel park on an uphill slope. In a manual transmission it was ridiculously easy: Stay in first, pull forward, put in the clutch, roll back, park, and if necessary, adjust. It was one of my better parallel parking efforts.
She took off 10 points for rolling backwards in gear.
I pointed out that in a manual transmission, not only is this harmless, but it frequently gives you better control, especially on hills.
She took off another 5 points for arguing with her.
So I lost 15 points because the person administering the exam had no concept of manual transmissions.
Grr...

They didn't?! That's so unfair! I had to and it was the most nerve-wracking thing ever. Even now my solution to needing to parallel park is to park somewhere else....not that I can get away with that much around here, but the sentiment is accurate anyways. :)

I did. Of course, the DMV's idea of parallel parking was to find an empty street and park along the side of it. Anywhere. Didn't need to be another car anywhere near. In fact, the fewer cars around the better, because it would be one hell of a mess if you hit one. In Driver's Ed, we practiced parallel parking once using orange cones. You were supposed to fail if you hit one, but one girl I saw get passed despite knocking both the front and rear cones about 5' while trying to park. The instructor just shook his head and told her "Never try to parallel park if my car is within a mile radius, ok?"

First session of Giantslayer went well tonight. The group still has no healer, except for whatever the Bard might be able to provide. I wonder how long that will last?
Also, a fun moment: The adventure opens with a big party for the mayor's daughter's birthday. I'm reading the text, get to the part where it says the daughter stands in front of everyone, and one of the players says "Is she hot?". I looked at him and said "Well, on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say that she's 12 years old!"

Well I guess I'm 31 now I think I count as old officially.
Do you feel like your lawn is safe when you're not there.
Do you find yourself thinking you sure do want to yell at teenagers, just because.
Can you name at least one member of Rush.
If the answer is yes, then yes, you are old.
And you should probably install a periscope by your recliner that you watch Matlock at.
