Lol. That is priceless. My kind of thinking. :D

My mom told me when I was a kid to be kind to people I didn't like because showing kindness to your enemies is like heaping burning coals upon their heads. And this is how I learned the fine art of negotiation. :P

As he's gone up in levels and abilities, or maybe as he's gone into other regions, the graphics have gotten crisper and crisper. He's definitely now rivaling PS2 games most of the time, and there was at least one vista that was even PS3-worthy.

So still nothing to write home about, but the crude graphics at the start of the game were clearly a design decision. And whether or not I like it, I always respect people for trying something different.

Something that I've repeatedly been told: the first area of the game (the great plateau) looks the worst/least interesting, and has the most issues.

Ah, the wonders of getting a new image and having someone say, "OK, check the entire set of bugs you filed to see which ones have been fixed and which ones you need to update!"

It's been a busy, busy, morning.

Pretty much of typing, "Nope. Tested that one. It's still there."

Not to mention that we leave on the choir trip in 3 days, so the (wonderful wonderful I love her so much) choir teacher sent us no fewer than FORTY text messages this morning to make sure texting was working, then asked me to get Impus Major's signed contract in (curse you, Impus Major's attention span!), pick up an ice chest, and do a Costco run for her.

And though I will never complain directly to her, last year she gave me 12 kids, and that was... hard.

This year I'm driving my own satellite vehicle to do all her errands for her (no problemo) and she gave me... 25 kids.

Boy, I *hope* they're well-behaved, 'cause this weekend is going to be The Exhausting Suck.

Oh, and just so's everyone knows, there was a change in corporate policy marked as "internal confidential" so I can't say anything other than, "Woo the f*****g hoo!"

My company finally decided that employee retention was important, and did something major.

I am very, very happy, and will share more once it's not internal confidential.

Curse you, Global Megacorporation! You make even good news hard to share!

Ugh. I have the crud. The kidlet and the husband have both been down with the crud for a few days, and I was hoping to be spared, but like that was gonna happen with my con score. All the coughing and the fever and the putting off of the grocery shopping because I am too dizzy to drive are mine. Luckily we live next door to Trader Joe's so I can walk over and get food as necessary until I can take the car for a bigger trip.

More seriously: sure! ... maybe! I have to determine what, exactly, I am planning on doing with them, and if I end up giving them to someone else to do something with for free (beyond just posting them here), I'd rather not make that decision for someone else who volunteered help.

Basically, I need to make sure I'm not getting work that will negatively impact anyone that offers to help.

For the record, I have no firm plans whatsoever, but I'm enjoying developing them enough, and think they have enough potential for all sorts of games, that I'd like to be sure before opening them up like that. 'Course, I could just be being stupid and/or overly-enamoured with my own concepts. So.

So, is it wrong of me to be happy that I've posted two consecutive obits for the same PC in the same area on the same day, and that all I can think is, "Oh, man! I really hope he gets a third!"?

Tpk last game...As I predicted.

Vampires and their dominate ability just wreck a party, even if there's five of them and an NPC, all at 7th level with a mythic rank for each PC, the Shade template on the NPC, and that's one CR8 baddie...

The rogue failed will save, sneak stabbed the barbarian before he could rage, won initiative and full attacked for more sneak attack (barbarian had an archetype without uncanny dodge), and the vampire went greater invisible and dropped fireballs. The rogue passed every reflex save and proceeded to stab to death the bard, while the vampire wrecked everyone else.

The NPC naturally ran away after hasting the party. She figured if the barbarian was dead, what chance did she have? Also, she was evil and leading them through the Shadow Plane for money and had no loyalty to anyone.

Heh. So fireball was ruled to not negate invisibility? We found out exactly how much of a killer combo that was in one PbP game my wife ran when she made the same ruling - it was entirely impossible to kill that imp with the necklace without stupendous rolls, and even then...

Oh! For future reference (though I've no idea how loyal the rogue was), he could have squeezed out an extra will save if it was against his nature.

Still, if it was a fun time (or inspires people to build new characters to GET THEIR REVEEEEENNNNNNNGE~! ... or to "do better next time" or pretty much anything else similar), it's a good game.

:D

Vampire looks to have used greater invisibility, so while they could see where the bead shot from the vampire would probably just move right after.

Greater invisibility

The better, though shorter lasting version that is explicitly not ended by hostile actions...

Though actually I'd prefer a second laptop instead of console.

This one has three years, and occasionally acts wonky - sometimes (though not very often) its crashes while viewing videos on facebook (which are embedded YT usually). Sometimes it requires hard reset, once or twice it recovered showing info about drivers stopping working and being restarted...

May those who love us, love us.
Those who don't, may God turn their hearts.
If their hearts cannot be turned, may He turn their ankles so we will know them by the limping.

As mowing season is approaching, I have a question for FaWtL. I need to buy to lawn mower. I am considering buying an electric one, corded as I don't trust batteries to last very long on something like this. Does anyone here have experience using electric mowers? Are they worth it? I have a smallish yard, and would prefer a mulching mower because I have no intention of bagging clippings or leaves and prefer to just chop them into itty-bitty pieces.

Thank you for your help.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Is your yard super small?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's not super-small, no. I'm not sure of the area, but I would call it about average. Of course, that doesn't really help as yards in different places are different sizes, but it isn't a postage stamp nor is it a field. If I were to guess, I would say the total land area is around 3500-4000 square feet, but the house is around 1000, plus the attached one car garage, the shed is about another 100, and then the patio is probably another 100-150. And then the driveway. So I would estimate the mowable area to be around 2500-3000 square feet? Maybe?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

k So my opinion the larger the yard the worse time your gonna have with an electric lawn mower. I've never had nor seen anyone have much luck with one not to say there isn't some good ones out there but its not been my experience. If you want an electric make sure you do as much research on the one you intend to buy as possible.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

An electric mower would work, but I would suggest a good gas mower. Toro is my brand of choice. (Spend the extra money for the really good one. You will not regret it. Mine cost around the $450 mark.) Having said that, I have used an electric mower on an average sized yard. My two suggestions are to get two or three 100 foot heavy duty extension cords. My second suggestion is to do your yard in a pattern from closest to farthest so you avoid the cord as much as possible. I would also set your lawn mower to around the two inch mark on mowing the grass and giving the extension cord a fighting chance.

P.S. - I agree with Vidmaster7. No matter what, spend the extra for a good lawn mower. Usually the more expensive ones tend to be sturdier.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I prefer electric mowers, and have used one on a largish lawn. (Had to use two extension cords.) Sooo much less annoying that having to prime, refill, and constantly fiddle with gas. The only problem I ran into is that after many months of just suddenly releasing the throttle when I was done mowing, the engine finally burnt out, and a specialty mechanic had to tell me to ease off that throttle instead. Other than that, it was all smooth sailing.

And like Sharoth says, you want to start close to the outlet and mow away from it as much as possible.

Thank you for your help.

I live in the Bay Area, so yard size is all relative. My "huge" parents' yard was maybe 1000-1500 square feet total. I used an electric mower, and the ups and downs were:

Ups:
  • It was significantly lighter than a gas mower. Since the lawns were on different tiers, being able to easily lift it up and down 24" terraces was nice.
  • It was significantly quieter than a gas mower, making neighbors happier.
  • There was no gas to buy and no maintenance.

  • Downs:
  • It did not provide as nice of a cut as a gas mower. It just didn't have nearly as much power.
  • Oh, man is dealing with the cords a PITA. They were *always* in the way.

  • After a year or two with the electric mower, I just went back to a manual. So that says something about them right there.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If you sharpen the blades after or before mowing, and your yard isn't too big, I like those old time powerless mowers.
