Impus Major FINALLY got a decent school picture. It only took what? 11 years?
And in my best "Awwww" moment in years, Impus Major came in while I was going to sleep last night to seek reassurance over his horrific issues with sticking to homework when I'm not around to badger him.
After I assured him I'd support him through it, and I'd had similar issues even in college, he gifted me with this gem:
"Dad, when I grow up I'm going to work really hard just so I can be half the dad you are."
Little heart-melter!
And everything was instantly worth it.
(Except that one thing, but we don't talk about that.)

FaWtL Update!
Posted conversation, originally in TGTG's thread!
Slightly edited for clarity.
Tacticslion wrote:D-dang it. W-... W-... We've finally gotten to side kicks in TKD.
I... I understand what so many of those seemingly useless stretches are for now.
(I knew they were not useless; I just did not recall what uses they had in specific. By all that hurts, now I know. Now... now I know.)
thegreenteagamer wrote:From what I remember of TKD when I was a kid - yeah....yeah...I feel your pain.lynora wrote:It does get better eventually. The thing that made me feel better when I was first learning side kicks was when one of the masters admitted that he still doesn't like side kicks. It was like, okay, yeah you have to learn them, but you are not required to like them. :P
TL (that's me) wrote:...** spoiler omitted **
I just feel kind of pathetic.
In part it's because I'm overweight. In part it's because I'm generally out of shape. In part it's because it's hard. In part it's because I rolled really low on my Con score.
(I'm pretty sure my player was banking on being able to turn me into some sort of non-evil undead before the GM was all, "Sorry, not available to you in this setting." or something. Dang it.)
It's funny, though. A couple months ago on that one stretch where you're basically doing a less-vigorous hoola hoop motion, I was all, "Why are we doing this? I know it's supposed to be a workout-stretch and it does something for me, but
side kicks are..or perhaps I should say were, my least favorite kicks. Deceptively simple looking, it takes a lot of situational awareness and positioning to use properly in a fight, so I used other ways of kicking people, until I learned how to work it into a feint that was interesting looking but not particularly practical. Still, the stretch was amazing.

Who the hell are you?
Who am I?
Well I am me. Its that simple. Im just another guy trying to enjoy his slice of the fantasy gaming world. I can cook, make maps, create entire gaming worlds. I am a veteran, a combat veteran and I am a disabled veteran. I am a day sleeper and I am more or less retired. I keep to my wife's schedule as she works 12 hour shifts at night. I am tattooed and I like to watch Star Wars and Harry Potter. I like to do crafty things to stay busy as its now difficult to do some of the more physical things I used to do. One thing I am not good at is sewing though, I suck at that.
If you want to know more just ask.

Well this year I have made a pair of Alien facehuggers to go on my pumpkins.
I have made mini terrain for miniature tabletop gaming.
I draw, ink and paint my own maps for my homebrew gaming world.
I have made many props for LARPing. Some very nice, some not so well and some that I wish I still had I loved them so much.
I always have a lot of projects going on and I even finish some of them. It drives my wife mad when I have them half finished. Thats only because I need a vital component or something. (i.e. I have everything to make a small smelter for home except the crucible. Thank The King of Random on youtube for the inspiration on that one.)

YES! I was showing this to the wife yesterday. If we had young kids, well if we just had kids (sadly something I have not made) I would have taken sewing classes just to make this I guess.

Hahahahahah~!
SO DAGGUM CUTE~!
Alas, me eldest has requested a Link costume.
I've... really got to get working on that.
(Step 1 green Santa hat minus fluff ball; step 2 green t-shirt sized too large; step 3 belt on outside; we've got a sword and even "heart pieces" for him... the only question is if we should do something with a shield which seems difficult and/or expensive for non-crafty folks...)

A home smelter is a bit of a thing :)
What are your main inspirations for your homebrew world?

I'm a stay at home dad that resembles (depending on who you ask) Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell (when he had long hair), the lead singer of Fishbone, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Weird Al, and Jesus Christ Superstar.
I used to be a landscape foreman and heavy equipment operator but my wife makes more as a government office drone, and we don't believe in daycare, so, I work part time at a toy store now. :-)
I like grunge, punk, hip hop, and long walks in the snow (but not after March).

I have many to be honest. I have a dash of ancient aliens and Krynn.
A portion of Eberon combined with two portions of Forgotten Realms.Emulsified with Native American prairie culture, topped with Arthurian lore and theme. Mixed well with a strong base of Robin Hood legend. All baked with a full side dish of druidsm and grecko/roman empire.
It goes on from there to be honest as it is growing and becoming more refined as I work on v2.0.

To make the shield just cut a piece of cardboard in the right shape. Spray paint it blue. Put gray duct tape on the outside, to get the silver edges. Tape a couple of recycled straps on the inside to hold it on the arm. It may take a few hours at most.
A couple refinements since spray paint (or any paint) can be problematic around tiny humans: Buy a couple of sheets of blue duck tape and place on both sides of cardboard shield before adding edging out of silver duct tape. Extra bonus, this reinforces the cardboard and will make it fairly water resistant. The straps can be made from folded over duct tape as well. Alternately you can probably find a toy shield at the dollar store. You can use the duck tape trick to cover over it's existing design. Or not. Some kids don't really care about the details that much. :)

You say that like we have any of those things except for the cardboard...

Now I just have a mental image of the Lioness coming home to poor TL, sitting on the floor with a pathetic look on his face, half-wrapped in duct tape, spray painted silver on one side of his body, and covered with glitter.
Because every project always gets glitter in it. Even if you've never ever allowed glitter into your house.
Glitter is to craft projects what corn is to vomit.

In my opinion, glitter should be banned. Glitter bombs are a thing, which prove glitter has already been weaponized. A recent text exchange with a best friend:
Her: "I'm so excited! I got an envelope from you? Could it be the wedding invitation?"
Me: "It's either that or a glitter bomb. Only one way to find out."
Her: "I hate you so much right now."

I tried to find a photo of the wand, cause i know i have one. unfortunately i couldn't find it in the most recent pictures, which means it's archived. yeah, not a today project.
But i did find this picture of our dog licking Baby T-Rex.
And here's the dinosaur just a couple months ago, in the garden.

Is it wrong that I think your dog is cuter than your baby? (Your child is cute. It was not a knock on your child.)
I'm not big on kids (more power to those of you who are, I'm not bringing it up to argue) but I love animals.
I have to prove I can stay at this job for a year before my wife will agree to us getting a pet. I have a history of rage quitting due to either anxiety overloads or mania related "f~$+ you I deserve a raise I work harder than everyone else" issues.
So until then I have to just say "one day" because my meds are working well and my job is very comfortable.

What is everyone's favorite Halloween music? I was doing a Halloween-themed storytime today and realized that many great movie theme songs are also great dance numbers.
Which then reminded me of a filk I did a while ago for my Doom Comes to Dustpawn group:

Pathfinders...
If there's somethin' strange in the Nesher Mine
Who ya gonna call (Pathfinders)
The scary cultists givin’ you a hard time
Who ya gonna call (Pathfinders)
I ain't afraid a no ghost
I ain't afraid a no ghost
If you're seein' goats runnin' round outside
Who can you call (Pathfinders)
Tons of bodies that just up and died
Oh who ya gonna call (Pathfinders)
I ain't afraid a no ghost
I ain't afraid a no ghost
Who ya gonna call (Pathfinders)
Things goin’ to hell, people poisonin’ the well
Just call Pathfinders)[
I ain't afraid a no ghost
I hear it likes the goats
I ain't afraid a no ghost
Who you gonna call (Pathfinders)
Mm... if you've had a dose
Of crystal toxin baby
You better call Pathfinders
Changin’ makes me feel strange
I ain't afraid a no ghosts
Don't get caught alone oh no... Pathfinder
When they come through your door
Unless you've just got some more
I think you better call Pathfinders
Ooh... who you gonna call (Pathfinders)
Who you gonna call (Pathfinders)
Ah, I think you better call (Pathfinders)
I can't hear you... (Pathfinders)
Who you gonna call (Pathfinders)
Louder Pathfinders
Who you gonna call (Pathfinders)
Who you can call Pathfinders... (till fade)

My favorites change from day-to-day, so I'll just share where they're at now:
Halloween music: Night on Bare Mountain, Modest Mussorgsky
Monster music: the theme from 2014's Godzilla (put the credits on repeat for an hour-and-a-half the first time I watched the DVD; get it for the tunes, not the acting)
EDIT: RE: the Godzilla theme -- Never thought I'd ever say this: The oboe work in that tune is phenomenal.

The only kick I would use in an actual fight is a simple front-kick. Granted I only took TKD for a couple of years, but it's good to know I'm not the only one to be uncomfortable with the side-kick.
Currently I'm getting my exercise via bicycle. Haven't been on one in ~20 years, and it feels like rediscovering my childhood. Except better, because Phoenix is so much flatter than NY!
/Too out-of-shape to pedal up even mild inclines.
