So, on that worldbuilding project a few pages ago. I just figured out the best form of transportation for far flung colonies. I've established that, while petrol is available, it's expensive to ship, and tends to be reserved for uses that absolutely require it, which is not everyday civilian transportation. Horses and mules are an option, and definitely present in the colonies, but they aren't the cheapest option, and require vet care and skill in handling animals. There's a cheaper to ship, simpler to take care of, and easier to use option for the everyday interplanetary colonist.
It's the common bicycle. Almost any able bodied person can ride one, it takes up far less room in a spaceship than a car or a horse, you don't need to feed it or have a vet around, a lot of maintenance and repairs can be done by a layman, spare bike parts are easier to ship than car parts, and so on. It makes perfect sense as long as commuting distances are around the ten mile range or lower, which is doable for a properly thought out colony.

Cousin's wedding has just finished.

Have you considered a courier service that uses recumbent bicycles with wraparound aerodynamic cowlings? With low-weight pilots/riders, let's say kobolds? And some form of take-off assistance, like being launched from a railgun barrel?

I never get tired of being yelled at for things that aren't my fault. Lady just came in, said she had reservations for 2 rooms. I don't see anything for her in the computer, so I ask if she's supposed to be next door (happens a lot, so a reasonable question). She gets mad, starts yelling at me, saying "I know where I'm supposed to be! Just get me my rooms!" Again, I tell her I don't a reservation for her, so she yells "I'm gonna call my brother! He'll straighten you out!" 30 seconds later, she's talking to her brother and guess what? She's at the wrong hotel. She's supposed to be at one about 3 blocks away. So she storms out, no apology or nothing, because it's clearly my fault she had no idea where she was supposed to be.
been there before. It's no fun having to fight with someone when you have driven 6 hours and really want to get something to eat and sleep so the fun can start. I apologize for her anger, but I understand where she is coming from.

I've got more. My fantasy is very American, but I don't want to lift out a period of US history and copy it. I like the D&D approach, where "medieval" really means "an anachronistic mashup of several centuries worth of stuff that didn't really coexist". The tech may be 40s and the art Art Deco, but the President? Modelled primarily off of Teddy Roosevelt. Big, barrel chested, loud and jolly, epically bearded, full of vigor, expansionist, hard charging reformer, puts out a very optimistic and successful view of the nation, and reputation for many feats of crazy badassery. Add in some LBJ, in that he's very good at bullying the legislature into line, is raunchy and foulmouthed as all get out if he isn't in public, and is all for the Great Society. He's the first dwarf president, but many dwarves view him as a walking caricature, and he's accused of pandering to popular expectations of dwarven behavior. Like LBJ, he has a lot of protests against him, largely stemming from warmongering, accusations that he writes his reforms with corporations whispering in his ear, and accusations that too many of the colonists in space aren't there of their own free will. Add in a 20s style crime wave, because the government decided to implement some harsh rules against eating most magical plants and the flesh of magical beasts, which has proven less enforceable than expected.

It's been a busy weekend so far. Kidlet's birthday was on Friday. We took him and his best friend to Dave & Busters. They had a blast. And then we took him to Outback for a birthday dinner. Hard to believe that he's already a teenager. :)
Yesterday my dad came for a visit. He was a jerk, as per usual. But at least it was a short visit. And then we went to the Salute to America concert at Greenfield village. It was the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Army Field Band. It was an awesome concert. The finale was the 1812 overture with actual cannons, which was every bit as cool as I'd been hoping. And the fireworks were really good too.
Today the kidlet and his dad are at my father-in-law's cabin on the lake having a barbecue and setting off some fireworks tonight. I stayed home because I had really aggravated my sprained ankle. Second trip to the lake I've missed because of this injury. :(
But at least I am having a nice quiet day of rest. There has been napping and reading and shortly there will be downton abbey and knitting. :)

Welp, there is only one good-aligned character in my Hell's Rebels group now, and it's mine. One player was able to return, but his other character had unfortunately died when he had to depart the group for a bit. So the replacement character is a NE/N Warlock Vigilante. Another character had to be replaced after the leader of the Red Jills one-shotted him with a max-damage crit from Scorching Ray, and he was replaced by a neutral dwarven hunter. And then there's the lawful neutral arcanist, who's a bit too comfortable with torture.
So now, the only person with a real moral compass is the Kyton-spawn tiefling who breaks everything she touches (Wrecker curse and Apocalypse mystery), actively sees the worst ways a situation can turn out (Powerless Prophecy), and has an innate knowledge of what can hurt people the most (because Nidal expat). ... This is going to be an interesting ride, that much is certain.

I've got to wait for someone to send a list through and put it up on the krutty system (which could be any time between now and 5pm), then he's got to ring it. Does anyone else think Teddy Roosevelt was an amazing choice for ruler of America in Civilization VI? I mean, Washington is certainly a good choice, and I'm a big Lincoln fan, but it's always one of those two. I want a different president for some variety, and it seems the devs agree. I like the image of the Bull Moose and his huge grin, his constant exuberance and overwhelming energy, his expansionist attitudes and big stick diplomacy, his hard charging progressiveness and willingness to bust trusts, and his general badassery. Yea, this is just the pop history version and I'm skipping over a lot of nuance here, but I don't want nuance in a Civilization game. I want the pop history version, and Teddy's over the top personal image is perfect for a wild and wacky but very involved video game session, which is exactly what I boot up a Civilization title for.
I'm very pleased about this.
Yes, this may have been a factor for modelling the ruler of my fantasy counterpart culture/science fantasy America after Teddy. Teddy works really well for the themes I want to hit in my worldbuilding.
