I wonder when Icy will find a campaign where I can make a comeback...

...oh my, I didn't expect to see her of all people naked.

~grins~ I promise that I will not look.

wow. I remember when 120 GB was a HUGE amount of room on a computer. Now 1 TB seems limited. My, how times change.

Yeah, no kidding. >_< My last computer filled up bizarrely fast. It was one of the main reasons I needed another. That and it started dying.

I hope every FaWtL is well and having a good day. Tough week here atm, but, sure, you'll have those. On the plus, planning my first year's trick or treating with the little one, with a very enthusiastic friend, so something to look forward to at the end of it all. :)

I guess I'm doing something wrong in regards to hard drive space. I have a 500gb drive, and am only using about 55gb (including Windows, which Microsoft says should fill about 20gb).

I fully admit that a large portion of mine is taken up with Steam games.

Downloading ten or fifteen of those and installing them really sucks up hard drive space fast.

My brother's friend's father had an advertisement in his office for a home computer from the 80's I think. "1K of memory! More memory than you could ever need." It read. I often think of that any time someone boasts about their computer.

Well, the fact I don't play computer games likely accounts for a lot of my free space.

That'd do it, yeah.

My hard drive gets filled with music. The tough part about being a classical music fan is that there is that they had several centuries to write a crap-ton of it.

First thing in the morning is a terrible time for NWN server drama. -_-

Score one for stupid o'clock overtime hours, I was asleep when the complaint came in and by the time I get home hopefully it will have been looked at by someone else.

Getting real tired of these shenanigans.

So this is basically the first thing I saw when I woke up today.

500 meters (about 1 minute by bike if I don't have to use the brakes) from where I live, and the same building where I go to the library.

One of the librarians was in the same year as me in librarian school, and there's a good chance some of the kids at the school are related to people who went to the same school as me when we were 13-15 years old.

Thank the Swedish legislative only the police had firearms.

And on Tuesday we buried grandma.

Which probably came six months too late - she had a rubbish last year with no dignity and no chance of doing anything about it. There wasn't a time I met her she didn't seem depressed, and the feeling you got was that she wanted it to be over with, so my feeling was more relief than grief, to be honest.

I discovered the Monster Trainer class last night. I vaguely recall Mystical: Kingdom of Monsters being talked about here on the forums several months a couple years (apparently!) past, but I missed out on the Kickstarter due to funds being extremely tight at the time, and lost track of it since. I really want to give the class a shot now.

Ouch. Very sorry to hear that =/ My condolences.

I'll never forget my friend boasting about the 1.1 gig hard drive storage he had back in the day. A mutual friend rolled his eyes and said he clearly got it to store more porn than anyone could ever truly use.

My first tech job was for a real-time software company in 2000. We considered 4 MB of RAM a "luxury" most companies couldn't afford in the devices that needed a real-time OS.

In 2004 I moved to an enterprise software company, where less than 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB of hard drive space was considered woefully inadequate.

One of the latest apps required 4 TB of RAM and 128 TB of hard drive space...

Different applications, different needs...

Sharoth, about how long does upgrading to Win10 take? And how does it function afterward? Are there any preparatory steps - backups, etc. - you recommend before upgrading?

I've been getting the popup on my computer for weeks now, and I do want to make use of it before it's too late (unlike when I missed the free upgrade from XP to Win7 on my old desktop), but I'd rather wait if it's got issues with certain programs (especially games) or if there's a large chance I'll lose things in the process.

I remain unsure of that last...but that's just me being suspicious.

4 MB of RAM in 2000?!

I am pretty sure that I had 9 MB in my (upgraded) Amiga 500 somewhere between 1997 and 1999.

That step I reached only a year ago, though.

You know, when the home computers in the 1980 had memory and storage capacity counted in dozens or hundreds of KBs at best, mainframes already could have (very expensive) MB of memory and 2.5 GB of storage?

My Xbox 360 has 60 GB.

I hate dealing with s&~& over the phone, it's so f#+~ing needlessly time consuming, what I couldn't accomplish all day on the phone (in fact I dug myself a Slithering Pit that kept dragging me back into it) I accomplished in a half hour of pleasant human interaction, and people wonder why I insist on doing things in person.

I wish I could tell you, but my new gaming computer came with windows 10 already installed. I found this thread to be very useful. I will also ask my wife these questions. I think she upgraded her computer to Windows 10.

Edit - I know that at this time, Mechwarriors 3 and 4 will not work with Windows 10. I am sure that the incompatable game list is far from complete.

Okay. Can't get onto GITP right now but I'll look at home.

I remember in my newb days that someone mentioned DOS and I gave them a blank look.

Here is my new gaming computer. Thanks Mom for the loan.

Yea. Sword of the Stars Complete takes up 4.0 GB of memory without save games.

Real time operating systems. Think the Mars Pathfinder (ours), missile guidance systems, pilot ejection seats, or those stupid little digital picture frames that display pictures of random families at you. All ours. When weight and/or price are at a premium, RAM size goes down. (You wouldn't believe what radiation-hardened RAM went for when Pathfinder launched.)

No; major enterprise software. Imagine the software that manages Chase bank's infrastructure, for example. (Just choosing Chase because it's my credit card company of choice, but our company does sell to banks and credit card companies... and of course the government.)
