A kingdom at war, an old soldier facing older mysteries, a slave fighting to survive, a flighty but surprisingly sentient elemental spirit, a scholar seeking forgotten truths, a student with a secret, a benevolent if slightly mad king, a reluctant assassin, and a bunch of other characters and overlapping, intersecting plotlines.
Which all come crashing together at pretty much the same time.

First of a projected ten. It makes an excellent doorstop which makes me happy for ebooks.

I've never played any Halo games, though I was considering picking up Halo Reach. I don't play many videogames though, and am not really a first-person shooter fan.
Get Halo: Combat Evolved (the first one). It's got a good, simple story, and it's the only one without that stupid shiny bloom effect on F&*@ING EVERYTHING. Halo 1 is my second-favorite game of all time, and one of only three that have held my interest long enough to play all the way through (interestingly enough, all three were original Xbox titles ported from PC...)

Last time I looked at the used game stores around here none of them had it. That was a while ago, though.

I adore Halo in all its incarnations, and its predecessors, the Marathon triplets. Who doesn't love Durandal, that little trickster. I think Marathon is probably superior in plot, but Halo's graphics are better (of course), and little compares to the feeling of desolation that Reach and ODST can evoke.
Gotta put in a plug for Marathon's loading screen art, too.
This one was always my favorite.
OK, I'm done now.

It sounds engaging. I'll have to check it out. Thanks friend.

My hatred for FPS is well known and well documented. I am forcing myself through HALO, however, as it is the game of a generation. Slogging through Halo 3. The only other FPS I have even dimly enjoyed is Unreal, and I have to admit that the storyline for Call of Duty games is interesting, although too patriotic/history hard-on for me.

Halo or Minecraft. The two basic food groups.
Minecraft has TAKEN OVER the cosplay convention circuit. I hope you saw pics of my friend Kate dressed like a Deadmaus/Creeper.

AAAH! My super-hyper-atomic clock radio died!!!!
It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cool! It automatically put in the time when it was plugged in, as well as the date, year...everything. It was supposedly accurate to within a few hundreths of a second, but over the past few months it's been off by at least 15-20 minutes.
Thank you, super-hyper-atomic-clock radio, for your service.
moment of silence
Now, time to get that new Hello Kitty clock radio I always wanted...

Oktoberfest in des moines was good last night.even though I can't drink beer the local german beerhall has hard ciders on the menu. Tried crispin saint I must say I really enjoyed that one over the sweeter honey crisp from the same company. Thanks to findinghard cider I'm not missing beer so much.

I never played Marathon, but add me to the HALO addict club. I have played every incarnation in multi-player mode. HALO: Combat Evolved was the first campaign mode I ever made it completely through. For awhile, my youngest son and I were playing all of the Halo's in chronological order. Even to the point where we stopped in the middle of Halo 2 to play ODST. We've been stymied of late by lack of time and a buggy halo 2 disk :(
Yes, we are pre-ordering the next game soon.

Ran my Rise of the Runelords campaign last night for the first time in nearly 2 months. Now, there are only two dungeons left and then it's on to Book 6. Also, we continued to discuss our next campaign. Originally was considering Skulls and Shackles but now it looks like Shattered Star since it is a true sequel to Rise of the Runelords.
It is a great group that we play with including, Wolfthulu, AZ's brother, my two sons, and Selgard from the message boards. The only player I have not managed to kill has been Wolfthulu's Remicus.

You're in Des Moines? I lived out there for school a few years ago.

The 6th book is still before you. You know you can do it!

I'm guessing gluten allergy, unless I'm mixing up wood raven and someone else.

Soooo.....Got to the airport this morning to pick up my wife. I was only in the cell phone lot for about a minute when she texted me that her plane had landed.
Unfortunately, because she had decided to change her flights at the last minute, her connecting flights were really close together and her bag didn't make it to Philly. So, Charlie and I ended up waiting in the cell phone lot for about an hour. Needless to say, we both got cranky.
When I finally picked the wife up, she was amazed that I was angry.

Just sayin'.
But the music, man, the music! Hating all things ODST is like throwing away a diamond ring because you don't like that particular cut.

So... anyone who has ever appeared on a Whedon show, worked on a comic with Whedon, or sat next to Whedon at Denny's is automatically bad?

I've always thought Michael Shanks would make a good Connor MacLeod. Or, if you want to go for an actual Scotsman, Gerard Butler.
I don't know Shanks ruined it for me as Hawkman. Gerard looks closer to the Kurgen in my opinion. David Tennant, nah Conner would just run everywhere.
