Scoundrel

Gunslinger Discussion: Round 1

Anyone else feel the class should be made its on base class and be renamed scoundrel?

I can see where you would want it to focus on guns and all but the grit and deeds mechanics could be better for other character options.

Guns I feel should be a play test in itself, just use the mechanics give a list of more guns, and some feats to play around with, possibly some of the archetypes and let people build characters of any class that utilizes them.

Scoundrel I feel could have deeds more similar to talents, discoveries and such. I know class bloat and all but the class is so different from fighter that I don't feel its an alternate class, you look at it you dont say hey thats a fighter.

+1. This sounds like a good idea.

The Grit system looks like it would fit a number of scoundrel type characters, not all of which would necessarily use guns.

I think having a scoundrel base class with Grit abilities is a great idea, and then for your gunslinger, make a gun toting archetype.

I wouldn't mind some other gun-toting archetypes to go with it. a gun-toting rogue (sneak attack), a firearm combat style for rangers, a firearm focused alchemist (exploding bullets), and a wizard with a rifle.

That's an amazing way to approach this. :)

They do mention gun mage wizard archetype.

I made one of these and posted it ;)

I agree with the OP. Or at least it would be nice to have a gunless archetype (silly as it may sound if the class is not renamed). The grit mechanic is too good to pass up just because you don't like guns.

My first thought when I saw the title of this thread was, "Han totally shot first." I have no reason to explain why.

I am working on a couple rebuilds, and my first one fits the idea of gunslinger being her own base class.

Let me know what you think.

I am still on the fence as to if the gunslinger should be an alternate class or a base class.

As to changing the name, it could be called any number of names but I have a hard time seeing scoundrel being one for this class. I like the idea of a scoundrel archetype though.
