The judging is going fast and furious now. More and more items are getting locked into the Top 32. In fact, we may be down to just one last spot and then the selection of our alternates now. And it's been an interesting exercise in collaboration with the judges. I think everyone's in for a real treat once RPG Superstar goes live. So, hang in there everyone! It's not that far away anymore...

Star Voter Season 6

It's like waiting for Christmas, only worse cause at least with Christmas you know you're getting a present but right now you might not get anything.

Hmm. Once the judges have the items and alternates locked down, can we start posting on a 'Clark Give me Feedback!' thread, since at that point the anonymity of posters will no longer impact the judging?
(The earlier you post on a 'Clark Give me Feedback!' thread, the higher the chances of getting an item review (by anyone except the unofficial judging machine which is Azmahel ;) ), after all, or at least it's seemed that way in past years...)

I'd recommend against that. Personally, I just think it's bad form to jump straight into a "Critique My Item" thread as soon as the Top 32 goes live, because it detracts from giving those competitors the attention they (and their items) deserve.

Here's my recommendation: Wait.

Let Sean start off such a thread rather than beginning one on your own. He already has something in mind for it anyway. And, it would be better if one of the judges kicked that off to make it official. I'm sure it'll pick up steam right away. And, for those interested in getting their request for feedback up as quickly as possible, you just need to keep watching for Sean's thread to appear...and maybe a blog post announcing it, too? (if that isn't too much to ask)

Just my two cents,
--Neil

Hmm, didn't they post and sticky a thread early one year, then lock it so that everyone could see it was there, but they didn't open it until the judges were ready to take posts?

Contributor, RPG Superstar 2009, RPG Superstar Judgernaut

Yep. That was last year, because I believe someone started such a thread early and Clark wanted to keep it organized.

And (just to be pedantic, because nitpicking judge's statements is the new trend this year!) back in the 2009 Clark thread Clark also created the thread ahead of time, plus asked people to hold off posting their items until a full day after the 32 were announced just to give the contestants a little time to shine by themselves. Looking at it now that... didn't quite happen, but at least people held off till after midnight. :-)

Apparently the judges are dirty, dirty teases this year. Announcing they're practically ready to announce, and only 5 days left. 5 days of knowing they're done. 5 days of just waiting to see who made it and who didn't. I can't think of how this could be any more of a painful wait.

Well, remember we need a few days for technical issues of moving and publicizing the Top 32, some time for the guest judges to give their comments before the Top 32 go public, and so on. :)

At very least, you'll be getting 32 awesometasticalicious wondrous items to pore over. :D

Well, if they don't post status updates every 24 hours, restless forumgoers may succumb to the mounting pressure and/or boredom, and remain with no choice but to fight over contest rules, guidelines, and judging process.

Well I think the problem is round 1 is just so freaking long; and for many (like myself)who submitted early you pretty much had to wait the entire first round (46 days). But now with 41 days down and only 5 to go I look forward to seeing what magic items made it into the top 32.

And...the Top 32 are locked in now! The judges are just haggling over (and ranking) the remaining alternates. And then we'll go back and review our comments. Couldn't be any closer to being done now. And there's some neat stuff in this year's group. So, get ready for the big reveal...

Now that post is just plain mean, just mean man. My anticipation wasn't that bad until I read this! Now i'll be nail biting and getting no sleep all weekend, just to wait for Tuesday!

He's teasing within the tease... Monday is the 17th, Tuesday is the 18th!

Oh, but you're so wrong. There's an absolute plan and method to everything I do. If I'm evil, at least give me the respect of acknowledging I'm Lawful Evil.

And, besides, aren't all these updates and posts "helpful"...? I know I like to think of them that way. ;->

Oh so very helpful. Sort of like telling a recovering alcoholic that you are at a party drinking the best beer you've ever had. :P

Contributor, RPG Superstar 2009, RPG Superstar Judgernaut

That would be a lot harder for me to pull off. I don't drink. Or, at least, not alcohol. You see, I've been working on a certain vampire adventure lately...

Heh.

Great news and thanks to all the hard work from the judges.

I told myself not to spend too much time here right now as it is futile - but you get drawn back again. Will my item fare better as last year?

A year ago I was sure I had a great item - it took me a long time to understand some weakness in the item. So this year I'm sure I have improved over the last year.

Will it be good enough? Well - the decision is made - just a few days more and I will know as well. If I don't make it - all the best to the deserving 32 who made it.

Actually, I think its a case of Neil IS Chaotic Evil - its his proof reading partner that puts the Law into his plans.

Actually I would say Neil is LN, with slight slips or missteps into evil:

Taken from the PRD
Lawful Neutral: A lawful neutral character acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs her. Order and organization are paramount. She may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or she may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government.

Lawful neutral means you are reliable and honorable without being a zealot.

Except that Neil enjoys causing us suffering and misery.

I wouldn't say he enjoys causing suffering but then I wouldn't say he was upset by it, which leads to the Neutral part of his alignment and why I stated he slips into evil.

Now to write like he does, which I admire tremendously, he most definitely needs to be lawful of some sort.

So that is why I said he is LN.

Actually I find it relaxing. At this point there is nothing more for me to do. After all the writing, editing, nail biting, rewriting, clever posting, formatting, positive thinking, less than clever posting, second guessing, pizza delivered (anonymously :) to judge's door-ing, anything else will no longer change the outcome. It is done and I have done what I can to influence it. It is fully out of my hands.

Now if I could only get to this point when I submit my item. When, you know, I have actually done all that I can to influence the outcome. :)

Neil has at least shown some measure of restraint compared to some posters I could imagine.

And so Neil, you have almost concluded on the what but when do you find out the who?

[humour] Hmm, I'm afraid I see you more as a scheming Planescape era Arcanaloth than as a planning Pit-fiend. I'm pretty sure 'helpful' is language more yugoloth-y than baatezu-y. 'Helpful' from a baatezu reads to as 'I really don't want to do this, I'm speaking through gritted teeth, I'm only doing this because I'm contractually bound to do it...', whereas 'helpful' from a yugoloth reads as 'What's that over there? Dear me, did I just slip a knife into your back? How careless...'
Sorry, Neutral Evil gets it in my vote... ;)

*sigh* I really need to find a job that either:

a.) captures my attention more fully, or;

b.) at the very least, gives me less time to lurk on the interwebs.

*casts detect evil, glances at Neil* "... sweet Desna! I'm... I'm BLIND!!!..."

There may in fact be times where our esteemed judges 'torture' of giving us these updates feels like purest Eeee-vil. But the truth is their feeble attempts to cause us suffering and anguish from which to feed, are like the tender caresses of fluffy poodle kisses, compared to the festering caldron of white-hot agony I inflict upon myself, forged within the demonic crucible of my own fevered imaginings.

Good thing my local group is gaming this weekend; something to take my mind off this contest. Woe be to the party, though; I'm seeing a TPK in their immediate future.

man, I need chocolate. Or something.

You're getting your mythology mixed up. And anyway, those are just wicked nasty rumours spread by bad people. Our goddess is kind, caring, and entirely family orientated. And she's not prejudiced about races - or even whole species - the way a lot of narrow-minded folk are...
