Hey all, unfortunately I'm going out of town again this weekend, getting back on Sunday night. Just as a head's up: it's frisbee tournament season, and that means I'll be travelling most weekends for the next month or two. I'm always fine with somebody running my character while I'm gone--I'd hate to be a cause of the game slowing down and delaying everyone else's fun. I wanted give a more formal warning, in case there is ever animosity or confusion. It won't be every successive weekend, but it will probably come up at least a few more times.

We have nearly finished what in my notes is "chapter 1-prelude" - cheers!
Huzzah! Now enough of this foreplay- let's go kill something ;)
hey Solaric, are you sure you don't want the magic longsword? Pitr is really built for two-handed weapons. longsword seems kinda flimsy...
don't worry about sharing the wealth, I'm pretty happy now that I have breastplate, although magicking that up might be nice or I may even invest in a scarf of protection +1 should we have a nice bit of bank put away for us...

A magic longsword would be awesome. Longsword is Solaric's weapon of choice. I just thought Solaric would practice generosity. It is actually hard for me to pass up a magic longsword.
However, in the back of my mind, I was hoping he might be granted one for his ordination at the Rite of the Lighted Sword.
I certainly like the idea a longsword, I just think it would be better if Solaric was given it rather than him asking for it.
DMZ, Let me know if I am playing Solaric too humble in this matter.
P.S. I still have not been able to get the token file to open for me. I am using a MAC and I don't know if that is my problem. I appreciate all of your help. I will let you know if there is anything else you can do. My campaign has just started this week and I had no idea how much time DMing can take. I am very impressed, Zyren. Thanks again!

Do I have to? Not to orthodontically examine a bestowed equine, but I'd rather stick with the halberd for now. Can we cash out and split the loot? What does everyone else think?

'Countess' Victoria |

Yeah divvy and split the trash loot (ie gems) as required.
Maybe the sword could be used as part payment toward a more functional item for you? No point us holding onto surplus.

Sorry guys, it's another one of these posts :(. I feel like it's always me coming to this thread for these reasons, but my Spring Break is next week and I'm going on a road trip with some friends. We'll be stopping in various places along the way, mainly at the houses of other friends, so I should have periodic internet access, but if I'm not posting I'm probably driving, haha.
Also, two weekends from this weekend I will be out of town, and then two weekends after that, and then my frisbee season should be about over (unless we go to nationals).
Please continue on without me if everyone is ready before I'm back, and I'll post when I can. If there's combat, anyone who has the extra time should feel free to run my character.

'Countess' Victoria |

Mate we all operate on different clocks, so its all good :) At least you are telling us you are away which makes life easier all round!
I'll be off doing 17 days in field with work in July, so there wont be ANY chance of me posting during that period... there's no internet in the deep deep woods in the middle of winter - just frostbite, hypothermia, and pain. Lots of pain. :p

Shifty |

I do admit there is a certain primal element it appeals to. My inner neanderthal let free of the leash to live as our prehistoric ancestors, modern equivalents of the old hunter gatherers - or viking raiders :)
Actually I usually end up pretending I'm Robin Hood with my band of Merry Men.

What? how cold can it possibly get in Aus? where you going and what are you doing? I had to get out of town last night just to sleep under the moon for a break. THE MOON WAS HUGE. it hurt my eyes...
we're already getting up to 30 C in the US southwest, around 8C at night which is good sleeping bag weather.BTW i'll be out in the canyons next weekend. I didn't get a springbreak this year which saux! :(

Come to Australia, you might accidentally get killed
your blood is bound to be spilled...etc.
I picked up a hitchihiker once who worked as one of those trucktrain drivers across the outback. He was actually maimed by a big red 'roo. His calf was just about torn off with a nasty scar. He was still a bit bitter about it and didn't appreciate it when I started calling him 'Roo'. ; )

Your Dm profile reminds me of something :-)
Good to see that your pbp runs so well!
Well, I've learned from the best! So far we have been going one week and the posts are going strong. However, it still feels like simply a lot of plot and character development at the moment. In the campaign, my five player characters are at a ball on the eve of a great tournament. On the following day, each of the players will compete in a competition in one of the following: Archery, Horseback Riding, Magic Duel, Open Combat and the Gauntlet of Traps.
I have some ideas on how to run this, but if any of you have any additional suggestions for ideas, let me know. Archery uses d20 Atk checks to see how well they hit the target. Hitting an AC 10 scores 1 point, AC 15 2 points, AC 20 3 points. Natural 20 = Bullseye. Horseback riding uses riding checks on jumps and handle animal checks to urge the horse faster. I would basically run that on a map. The magic duel will simply be casters casting spells at each other. I am not sure how a 1st level sorcerer will handle that. The open combat for the paladin will be easy enough. Do any of you have some additional ideas on what you might have to do to get through the Gauntlet of Traps? I am thinking of acrobatics check to pass the swinging blades to get to the locked door. Unlock the door with disable device, followed by a climb check to scale the wall to get out.

Last winter we were in -17c. In sleeping bags, not under cover, on a hillside. The days were around 11c, but then we got caught in a cold snap and it began to snow, with one of those lovely breezes which dropped us so low because of windchill.
The year before it was April (so not even Winter) in the southern parts of the Simpson desert, hot during the day, and down to -2/-4c at night.

Ack, I draw the line at snow camping and if it gets below 0 c I have to double bag it. Fortunately, the desert warms up during the day fairly nicely. That's why I love it so. Just watch out for those camels if you get back to the Simpson Desert. I heard the Aussie version have razor sharp teeth, fart flames, and spit venom.

DMZ- I did buy a Harrow Deck recently when i started getting interested in Crimson Throne. I've been using it in my RL Katapesh campaign. One of my players is really into having his fortune told, that and he's quickly on his way to becoming a pesh addict. The cleic of Abadar is already into high stakes gambling. My campaign is starting to feel like CSI: Las Vegas : )
As for this drawing, I'll leave it up to you which suit is most applicable- Keys for the journey, Books for Jarovich, Hammers for attacking the Castle, or Shields for defense against magic. Narrowed that down didn't I?

GM Harpwizard |

I too am lucky with my mother in law. She is actually very kind to me and gives us a good amount of space. However, a four and a half hour drive apart also helps.
DMZ, thanks for the ceremony. It is really awesome to experience this as a player! I'll update Solaric tonight.
Pitr, keep milking the antagonism; it keeps things interesting and makes your character really believable. I presume he would not have bothered with the ceremony.

'Countess' Victoria |

That makes total sense and fit right in character. Solaric may have learned his lesson, but I doubt many others would have.
** spoiler omitted **
Just looked at the XP, I wonder if theres any giant rats to go hunting or something so I can level before we depart... SOOOOO CLOSE ;p

I KNOW! I'm sure there will be some rights to be wronged on the road.
SO I'm totally lost on loot now. I think I was broke when we went into the sewers and I wrote down 400gp from somewhere, but don't remember where I saw that.
EDIT: Must have been the 350gp from the Academy and some change I had.
Ragman netted like 350gp and a bunch of gems. and it sounds like we get 1/6 of the 1500 gp Solaric withdrew? anyone better at accounting than I?
So far 350gp+308gp+jewels?

'Countess' Victoria |

OK I have it as:
Starting gold
6pp from saving the burning library event
350 for the reward from the Uni
250 from Salvator (1500/6)
Plus you shuold have some Gem's loot (which I would have forgone as I got items)

Pitr Jendarne |

OK, thanks. sounds like 600gp each.
The possessions of the Rag Man and his guards consist of:
350 GP
700 SP
2 large amethysts
1 small tiger's-eye
3 small yellow quartz
2 medium moonstones
1 chainmail
3 studded leather armors
4 longbows (200 arrows)
3 longswords
1 scimitar
12 rations
Magical possessions mentioned in the spoiler above.
I got a 1000gp share of magic sword so i'll forgo my share of additional Ragman $$ since it seems Basilli, Kirk, and Zahur are due a little extra.
Thanks.

Pitr Jendarne |

this group needs a treasurer!
Seriously! most groups I've run have had multiple levels of 'Beancounter' and 'Accountant'.
Well, Zahur and I can take care of reselling the arms and armor above to Pettoria or where ever.
Countess is most believable to be selling jewels (and might even haggle the price up playing the fallen debutante). "I've always relied on the kindness of strangers"

GM Harpwizard |

DMZ, I am without my books at the moment. Where can I find the speed of horses as a function of the weight they are carrying? What is the speed difference between the Light versus the Heavy Warhorse? By taking a light warhorse and I choosing a faster beast than the heavy war?

DM Zyren/ Heart of Light |

Look at the very bottom of the page
There you find how the normal speed of horses (50ft) is affected by load/armour.
