PFRPG XP Conversion for Adventure Paths

Rise of the Runelords

The Exchange

I know I saw this somewhere once before, but can't remember where and can't seem to find it now...

Which XP progression is the one that's assumed to be in use when determining the "proper" level gain to keep up with the Adventure Paths? I remember there was one suggested but can't remember which. I'll be running Runelords as soon as my friend finishes up his turn as GM doing Age of Worms, our last 3.5 campaign, and need to know.

Thanks. :)

Strictly speaking, the Fast XP path is most appropriate for Runelords (and the other 3.5 AP's, IIRC).

For my Runelords game, though, I've been using the Medium path. But that gives me flexibility if I want to add or expand sections or add random encounters, and it allows me to periodically award story and RP xp bonuses. If you go that route, I recommend mapping out how the XP awards will likely add up, to ensure that character leveling happens on schedule.

(Or, you can just ignore XP altogether and simply declare when the characters have leveled. Depends on what your players want/expect, though. I offered that option to my players, since XP is pretty much meaningless bookkeeping in an AP, but they insisted that they wanted to watch their XP totals accumulate. Sigh... )

Yeah, I doubt my guys would go for that either. We're pretty old school and want our xp at the end of each session. If I just "arbitrarily" levelled them up, we'd probably have a revolt.

But yeah, I like your idea about using Medium to allow for other awards...might look into that. But knowing what was expected as "baseline" is nice. So thanks!
