This is the main plot, not a "sidequest."[/url]The gods forcing their priests listen to them spout cowardly arguments about bureaucracy and how they'd personally be better off if all their followers were dead is the main plot? Weird and bad stuff, there. Star Wars prequels level of bad.
That's a fun quote from Burlew though. It is rather bizarre, especially in the larger context of the link, since the Protagonist (which is Roy, by the by, not his comic relief or his stereotyped tag-alongs), hasn't had any struggles except a burning failure to be relevant since #114, and spent an inordinate amount of that time dead.
But it does illustrate how little Burlew understands about characters, story structure or what an audience cares about and why. "You just don't get it, and you never will." is a terrible debate for an author to indulge in. If people don't care about the pro/ants or their struggles, the author needs to do some introspective work on how they can be better as an author, not chase the audience off by berating them for their 'failure.'
The airship gag where he held a rope while everything went on without him wasn't actually a joke. It was the perfect encapsulation of the lead character.

Yeah, The Adventures of Roy Greenhilt has really gotten derailed lately focusing on all these tertiary characters . . .
Yes, it has. Temporary Captain Bandana, Other Vampire Dwarf (who so far as I know is still officially nameless) and Shark-Paladin have been more relevant than most of the official cast list.

Oh, hey, I've reached Youtube Comments Tier! Woohoo!
You definitely have hit that tier.
I didn't miss your point, I just found it laughable. Character development for Elan: after a hundred strips of faffing about on boats, missing the obvious, and retreading the whole clown-god joke yet again: picks neutralize poison for his 4th level spell slot.
2nd chance: foils his daddy by staunchly choosing to stay a sidekick.
Character development for Haley: brutally murders her childhood rival. Twice. Yay!
Character development for V: angst and turns from wizard to professional pet wrangler, even to the point of researching and preparing cat delivery spells, because there is nothing at all for the character to do.
Durkon's dead, and Belkar has been narratively dead since the mark of justice and the oracle's prophecy.
So, yeah, the Adventures in Failing with Roy Greenblade are pretty much all that is left on the protagonist's side of the story.
Meanwhile, backup characters Sharkgirl and Mr. Stiffly actually pursue the plot to the current location of the villains, which allows the story to trundle on despite the best efforts of the author.

There is no badwrongfun way of reading comics and everyone should be able to express their opinion even when the writer is much appreciated.
Also extremes of opinion and scathing comments tend to produce more of the same which is not conducive to serene debate.
Though I do not agree with most of these critics, it is true that Rich is a bit too good at creating great expectations in his audience but tends to let them down afterwards with no adequate resolution. So much so that he feels the need to justify himself time and again and sometimes in a way that can feel condescending.
It is a bit too easy to berate your audience for focussing on the MacGuffin when all you have done for several strips is to build up dramatic tension hinging on said MacGuffin

I wonder if the MitD is a fragment of the Snarl that was severed when the portal between the world and the Snarl's prison was closed.
I will say this much: It is possible to guess.
That is, it isn't something I just made up for the story. It wouldn't be any fun for the answer to a mystery to be something I invented just for one purpose, would it? I won't finally throw back the darkness and have someone say, "Look! It was a therblewurkersaurus the entire time!" or some other made-up monster.
I realize that the line between something I made up and something someone else made up is a pretty fine one, but I trust that someone will figure it out eventually.
Also, see "Section 3b: Frequently proposed unlikely ideas" from the MitD thread. Snarl Jr is a common suggestion, but it would be something the Giant made up.

Really doesn't matter. Despire Rich's teasing with 'it will be worth it' it will just be a DNF wet noise of 'we waited this long for that?' Of course there will be die hard posters going 'I KNEW IT!'
I have no idea. I almost wish there would never be a reveal. Especially if the MitD does do the heavily hinted heel face turn, so our heroes don't really need to fight it.
I've enjoyed the strip for years and still do. It's got it's imperfections, but I look forward to each new page and am rarely actually disappointed.

I never noticed Redcloack's feet before now, and they really bother me, for some reason.
I think it's kind of the same effect as what happened with the rest of the Order when Rich gave them sleeves and pants - just not accustomed to him having boots on contrasts with the look he's had for previously in the series.

Also, I am finding it curious about Kraagor's Tomb that Serini would have put a statue in front of it that says: "Sacrifice Forgotten". I thought the idea of a tomb to guard the rift was the he wouldn't be forgotten. Or is that more of the bitterness these guys had for each other seeping through?

Well, it's kind of the point that the sacrifice was forgotten. If everyone remembered his sacrifice, then everyone would remember the snarl, and then the gates would be common knowledge.

When I saw them, I assumed that he'd picked up boots of the winterlands, or some comparable magic item to deal with the climate. If he didn't have a magic item to counteract the climate, I would have thought endure elements would have been the first thing he'd have cast.

I can understand that in general, but the fact that she built a tomb in his honor (without the direct implication of the gate) means she could have just as easily left it a blank statue. Leaving that epitaph strikes me as just one more hint of how bitter these people were towards each other in the end, as has been pointed out by Girard's comment and Serini's implied attitude..

That and the whole Russian accent.
Worgs can talk. Dire wolves can't.
Maybe he's a dire worg. :)

I figured the hobgoblin and the MitD were Speaking with Animal. Or that Rich was just letting the dire wolf talk for RoF.
