no, he saw V use the epic spell on the black dragon, so he knows V killed 'em all

Which does not preclude him from being promoted in the near future.

He is the one who initially set up the deal where V could make the bargain with the IFCC. Now he knows just how far reaching the effects of that temptation were and is likely eligible for promotion.

"Where am I"

"The Pit of Despair." *coughs* *clears throat* Don't even think about trying to escape. The chains are far too thick.

Looks like V is back in the game!!

Well... maybe not.

That whole conversation in the Princess Bride is great. I love:

"So I'm here until I die then?"
"Until they kill ya, yeah."

As for Blackwing, though, great zinger about the pity party. :)

They are back! With arrows

Which raises the question: "What was on that arrow?"

I'm sure we'll find out in the next strip or so, but I'm curious what you think?

Heh, I wonder how long she's been using her 'skillset' with Elan's dad.

Looks like a smoke pellet variant that can be delivered on an arrow.

In the long shot of the hall, it looks like Elan's dad is on the other side of a dashed line. I predict a sliding gate and another Elan's dad v. OotS fight.

Well, this should clear up some of the level quetions.

Liberty's Edge

I can't imagine much will happen here other than the Linear Guild

Spoiler:
being deafened and perhaps blinded. I'm sure there's not THAT great a level disparity, if any.

Spoiler:

3.5 Holy Word wrote:
Furthermore, if you are on your home plane when you cast this spell, nongood extraplanar creatures within the area are instantly banished back to their home planes. Creatures so banished cannot return for at least 24 hours. This effect takes place regardless of whether the creatures hear the holy word. The banishment effect allows a Will save (at a -4 penalty) to negate.

So we need to see if Sabine and the Imp familiar make their Will saves. ETA: Whoops, imp is on other side of the gate, so just Sabine.

Note that the spell says any nongood extraplanar creatures, NOT summoned creatures, so it doesn't matter if they're not summoned.

Also, if the mummies are low level enough (I can't remember how you'd determine that), the spell will destroy them. While the guild itself is probably same or equal to Durkon's level, I doubt the summoned undead are.

And for the rest of them, if they're "just" deafened, that will reduce their initiative, allowing more of the OOTS to get the drop on them; reduce their Listen checks, allowing Haley to sneak up on them; and it will force Nale and Zzdtri to make a 20% spell failure check when casting any spell with verbal components.

That may not be a huge deal, but it may be just enough of a debuff to give the OOTS the upper hand.

Spoiler:
Regular 3.5 mummies are 8 HD - Durkon would have to be CL 18th to destroy them.

I could be reading too much into this, but in that last panel, it looks like...

Spoiler:
Tarquin, Nale, and Sabine are holding their hands to their ears. This might mean they've become deafened. He only needs to be of equal level to that, but I doubt Durkon is a higher level than Tarquin, so I'm probably just reading too much into those gestures.

Great. Now I've got to explain why I'm laughing out loud at work.

Makes two of us. That cracked me right up. Plus the look on Roy's face.

BAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA

So glad he's working from home today and doesn't have to explain anything to anyone.

Grand Lodge

Oh that's just classic.

It does give an interesting question...

Does Sabine truly love Nale?

Ditto. That was laugh-out-loud hilarious!

But I agree - does Sabine really love Nale? Who knew?

Spoiler:
"WHAT ARE YOU SAYING? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!"

Spoiler:
It's not a bug. It's a feature.

Great episode. Also, shows why Fighters should have more Intelligence-based choices.

Liberty's Edge

Now THAT was one of the most classic strips of all time.

Yes. Just because you are evil, does not mean you can't love.

I read somewhere (don't remember where) that what we actually love in another person is the reflection of ourselves we see in their eyes.

That's why I never make eye contact. That and it keeps me from being glammered.

Oh, I'm not denying that she can love. The question is does she actually love Nale and isn't just using him for her schemes.

That's probalby just semantics for a succubus.

Yeah, evil people loving isn't a problem.

It's that she's a succubus.

Making the mark think you love them is in the job description. Actually loving them is not.

Jeremiziah wrote:

Roy is finally SHOWING he knows tactics.

About time it lost informed ability status.

Worth the wait. Definitely worth the wait.

I love the panic Nale is in, and the cool head Tarquin is keeping. It's really great.

Now if roy can juuuust arrange to get Malkin and Nale alone together without daddy dearest long enough for a harm quickened inflict combo...

Actually, I think that many succubi actually love their marks, in their sick, abusive, demonic way.

In the way that abusers "love" their victims, perhaps. Not in the way the victims think they do.

Some succubi may actually show the kind of love showed by long-term abused victim. I can imagine submissive succubus. Maybe not Sabine, however.

Drejk wrote:
I think they were referred to as mummies. Zombi... *turn undead*! *poof*. Oh, thank you Durkon.

*Bump*

Spoiler:
Roy does the mummy "turning" while Durkon manages to stand against Tarquin for about a round.

A second strip in the same week!

Spoiler:
"ELAN IS IT COOL IF I KILL YOUR BROTHER WHAT CAN'T HEAR YOUR ANSWER SORRY!" Apparently multiclassing as Fighter/Rogue/Sorcerer makes you worse in close combat than Ranger/Barbarian...

There's still a lot of work to complete, but maybe he's moved past the most time-consuming chunk of it. Or maybe he's finding a better balance.

I just like the fact that there is a drow hand signal for "accountant."

Well, before they were a poor-man's-Reverse-Gorian-Fantasy, they were cutthroat merchants, traders, and money-changers. Let's not forget that.
