This week has been hard on classic sci-fi cinema. (First Leslie Nielson, then Irvin Kershner?) Thanks for the best SW movie of all time, Mr. Kershner.
I agree, couldn't agree more, Mairkurion. Kirshner was never a household name for me and mine until the early 2000's when Lucas scrubbed the greatness off his legacy. We whine a lot about Episodes 1-3 around here...
Kirshner, where was I...Kirshner was really damn good. After we stopped clutching our knees to our chests and crying "why does it burn?" we watched the 'good' trilogy again and then someone brought a dvd of Never Say Never Again and we cussed and we scowled and we wondered in the new millennium "Why didn't you involve Kirshner with this!?!!!?"
It wasn't until around 2005 that a friend of mine was like, "um, Irvin is in his late 70's. You gonna ask him to abandon his wife, family, and the grandkids on the vacation of retirement to come back and direct some bung-smelling trilogy?"
"Point made," I conceded.
And in his honor, again, we watched TESB, and NSNA. Granted, it feels weird to have the same basic group of people in my home now with kids as we watch awesome movies.
