Occa Examines the key....

'Hmmm ... wonder what this unlocks....'

Anything ususual about the key Tarlane?

Liberty's Edge

The key looks fairly plain and well used. It appears like it would fit a standard door lock.

Occa ties a bit of green thread to the key and drops into a belt pouch. "There that will keep it from getting lost."

Actually, I think we might have found that door! Zeldin says with excitement, suddenly realizing that this could be one of the doors off the water room.

When, Occa pockets the key Zeldin makes a small frown, wrestles with a thought and then seems to calm. Opening his own pocket, he pulls out a key, and says, It seems like we should keep found keys together. Do you want to keep them? his tone seems to indicate that in fact, he would like to keep them, but he offers his key freely, all the while glancing at Errigal for approval.

"Oh, you have other keys? Then here, keeping them together is a good idea. This key has a bit of thread to seperate it from the others."

removed key from character sheet.

Zeldin smiles and in that moment, Occa likely sees something the others have already noticed, that this keen minded odd man, has some aspect of a child about him, as if he has spent a very long time without social interaction in his life.

He takes the key, and smiles again at Occa. Thank you! he says enthusiatically.

Suddenly he feels like he should trade something, and he offers again awkwardly, what he said before, I think I know where that door is! it is in the water room. We can see before we leave, okay?

"Do you know where this door is by any chance?" Occa shows Zelden the Destiam illustartion.

Larayn looks uncomfortable and then takes the scroll, "Serenrae by thy will let me see". After staring at the scroll intently she says,"This document contains a spell sometimes called "Blur"."

Karth nods at Zeldin's plan, and before he can interject to answer the cleric's question, Zeldin and Occa begin chattering about keys and drawings. He steps over to them and examines the drawing as well.

Kathrine allows Zeldin to take charge of the magical investigations as she has no skill in the matter. Once the question comes up on what to do now, Kathrine allows her voice to be heard once again.

"I feel it would be a good idea to explore this door, if we do have the ability to enter it we might be able to find something more than what this first level has given us so far. A few days out and we have not found much of real value. It would be nice to accomplish something more than filling a merchants store with old arms and armor."

"Well there are some fine dresses and things in the wardrobe, bit out of fashion but still good material and well made. Then there are is the bedding and furnishings, haul them out and they will make you some coin."

Occa, its clear everything in here is well made and likely has value to it, you have no real idea just what that value would be.

Just the easily portable things like the clothing and linens would likely take several trips to bring back to town. Most of the furniture would take three or four per item to carry back and would slow you down considerably.

Not saying it is unfeasible, just making sure as you value stuff that this room would likely be several days of work to loot bare.

No worries. I'm not planning on vacuuming every cp out of the delve. The bit about the furnishings et al. was a bit of a dig about Katherine's comment about the poor pickings so far.

[b]"Please forgive my poor manners, I am Occa, servant of the wind and waves."

Occa holds his hand out to Larayn.

To katherine. "Yes if my absent host went to such trouble about it there may very well be something worth knowing behind that door."

"Wherever we head, I would like to be quick about it," Karth remarks. "Shall we see if Zeldin is correct about the location of the door?"

If/when we leave Occa will spike the door closed. We do not want that angry potato after us.

Occa walks beside Karth.

"So friend Karth, Did you meet the goblins my old group did?"

Male

It is so lovely and quiet in the dungeon this time of year don't you think?

or

BUMP!

Liberty's Edge

Looks like Occa just bumped things while I was writing up this post.

I was letting you guys discuss where to head next, but it looks like that has trailed off and while I don't see a firm decision, it seems you are leaning towards going for the steel door so I am going to go with that assumption.

Falling back through the dungeon, the newcomers see several rooms left high with bodies of orcs, goblins and kobolds left behind by the party's earlier encounters.

Walking into the tall chamber that houses the inset pool the group makes its way to the south east corner of the room where the large smooth door made of some sort of odd blue steel stands. It appears to be what is described in the found page.

Tarlane wrote:

Oops....sorry boss.

'Hmmm so this does look like the door in the drawing' 'I wonder how Destiam comes into it?'

Looks for markings on or around the door/door way.

Liberty's Edge

As soon as the word slips from Occa's lips the door blinks with a bright blue light and then seems to fade away, becoming translucent so you can barely make out where it is. It appears almost like a mirage.

Beyond a very long chamber stretches before you, with a dark pit yawning in the crantralmost portion. A few tapestries still hang on the walls, making you think that perhaps once this was some kind of gallery of festhall.

However, years in a dank dungeon have done these items of decor no favors. Mold and mildew, dirt and grime stain them, making them little better than rags. A tarnished bronze statue of a knight in armor still stands vigil over the room.

I'm trying to figure out how to depict it on the map, but there is a tunnel at the bottom of the pit that runs south as well.

Male

"Salt and spray!

Occa turns to the others.

"Did you know this was here?"

The door yes... The room no... Can we go through it now? I do not guess many have made it this far!

"Indeed. That is a good idea Zelden. Karth can you see any tracks in the dust? See if we can expect a warm welcome."

Liberty's Edge

Even just a careful touch allows a hand to simply pass through the translucent door as if it wasn't there.

There are a number of humanoid tracks in the dust of the floor.

Survival DC 16

Spoiler:
Several of the tracks seem to come and go from the pit to the door, it looks like a group moves through with some regularity.

Survival DC 19

Spoiler:
As above, but there is one set of tracks that moves separately from the others and walks from the door directly to the eastern wall, just north of the large bronze statue.

Survival, untrained but faint heart and all that, toss in guidance as well1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 1 = 19. Ha! Who needs a ranger when you have a cleric with delusions of adequacy!

"Hmmmmm.... Looks like a group of things that walk comes through here pretty frequently. Not quite the secret door we thought. ..... Looks like one set of prints heads to the east wall in front of the statue. There may be a secret door there."

Now how to get past this pit?"

Any clue as to how the other folks cross the pit visible from here?

Liberty's Edge

I should have mentioned it above, though technically track works like knowledges where you can't use it untrained for a DC above 10. Thats alright, we can let you have your moment of surprising luck.[ooc]

[ooc]The pit itself isn't actually blocking the way, its in the center of the room and can be walked around on either side. The footprints lead up to the edge of the pit and seem to drop down inside however. From where you stand you can't get too good of a view though, the pit is just at the edge of dark vision and in dim light from your light sources.

Sorry everyone, my bad I missed the find but not follow, and the dc 10 bit. See, delusions of adequacy. In my defense I do have it as a class skill and plan on putting a skill point in it next level. More in the morning good night.

Sorry, funny weekend... Meant to respond to this earlier but freak power outages, my Sunday game, and the general existence of Monday delayed me.

Occa wrote:
"So friend Karth, Did you meet the goblins my old group did?"

Karth shrugs noncommittally. "We killed a few. Whether they were the ones you encountered or not, I do not know."

Arriving at the door once more, Karth shakes his head, unsurprised there was magic at work.

With Occa pointing out the tracks, he makes his way over to the statue to examine it, giving a cursory glance at the pit, wondering if someone had sprung a trap before they arrived, or if some of the dungeon's denizens used it to get to lower floors.

Perception (around the statue)
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Liberty's Edge

No worries Karth, I just advanced things since I could feel us slowing down a bit again and I wanted to keep us moving. I really like the group we've got and am enjoying the game so I don't want to see it stall.

Moving through the translucent door is almost like passing through spider webs, a small tingle is felt but there is no real resistance.

Once in the room and making the way to the statue, you are able to get a better view within the pit. Its about 18 feet deep and has rotten wood scattered throughout its bottom. From a number of boards jutting out from the lip of the pit over the opening it gives the impression that there may have once been a wooden platform that covered the opening, perhaps even a wooden staircase that connected to the level below but those have long since collapsed.

At the southern end of the pit, an arched opening leads to a path that runs below the floor of the room.

Looking over the statue, several things are apparent to Karth. The statue is of a bronze knight in full armor. It looks like the visor on his helmet has working hinges on it that could raise the faceplate. Through the slats in the visor, he can also see that there is something odd about the knight's eyes, while still bronze they appear to be inset slightly in the face and look as if they could be depressed.

Very good timing on a really high roll, Karth.

Male

"What a strange place."

Occa Follows Karth into the passage.

"That felt...odd."

Occa walks over to the pit and kneeling down securly on the stone floor, he tests the jutting planks to see if any could bear weight.

"We might be able to rig a rope here if you wanted to head below."

Karth steps back from the statue, his thoughts interrupted by Occa.

"I dislike heading down before we see what's around us. This statue... The visor can be lifted, and it has a face. The eyes look like they might be switches of some sort. Likely opens something that whoever left these," he says with a gesture to the tracks, "was looking for."

Liberty's Edge

Even just putting a bit of weight on one of the rotting timbers causes a chunk of it to break off and fall into the pit, its unlikely they would support any weight.

You could potentially drive a piton between the stone slabs in the floor or use the statue as an anchor however.

Knowege(Dungeoneering) or Craft:Alchemy DC 15

Spoiler:
For the age you would expect it to be, the wood and for that matter even the tapestries of the room have fared far worse than you would assume in a room that doesn't appear to be particularly damp. It almost looks like some sort of acid was splashed around to weaken the structure.

Hmmm no luck with those skills. Hopefully the party has them somwhere.

Occa stands and walks away from the pit. Approaching Karth he says "The wood is all rotted by the pit. If we want to head down we would need to use spikes and rope. Still possable though."

Occa takes a good look at the statue. "Who is this" he wonders, and why is he here."

"This could be a trap." Casting resistance {+1 all saves for the next minute} on myself. For a moment the dank air smells of salt spray.

"I could give you a minor blessing from old Gorzeh if you would welcome it. Dosn't do much, doesn't last long but it cant hurt."

If Karth agrees resistance on him as well just before he presses the eye switch or lifts the visor.

Know (Dungeoneering)
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Karth shrugs noncommittally, looking back to the rest of the party. He's clearly uneasy - not comfortable making decisions for the group in this situation.

"I'll take help where I can get it," Karth says, agreeing to the cleric's blessing. The salty smell on the air is new to him, having spent his whole life in the River Kingdoms; he spaces out for a moment while he wonders what life might have been like had he abandoned his homeland and headed south.

I assume Occa is intending to open the visor and press the buttons; if not, Karth will go ahead and do it.

I'll let Karth do that. That way I can heal him if something goes wrong. If I have time before Karth starts to open the visor I'll throw a Guidence in there as well.

Male

by in there I mean on Karth. The armor does not need guidence. That is all.

Liberty's Edge

I placed everyone around the room somewhat randomly since I really only knew where those who were so close to the statue are.

With the guidance spell on him, Karth raises the visor of the statue. As soon as it is lifted, a click is heard along the wall just north of it and a door swings open revealing a short hallway that banks around a corner to another doorway.

The statue's eyes each obviously can be depressed now that you are able to look at them more clearly, though it likely would have been difficult to spot even with the visor open had it not been noticed before.

Since opening the visor did something I am not assuming you are still going with pressing one of the eyes. If you are still going to do that its fine, I just wanted to give you a chance to change plans. Let me know exactly how you plan to interact with the statue.

Zeldin is apprehensive of this room and certainly of the floor. He proceeds with caution behind the others and as is his instinct, he begins looking where his attention is not drawn. The corners and edges of the room.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

As Karth and Occa play with the statue, Zeldin tries to stay clear, and watches the hole for surprises.

Liberty's Edge

Staying away from the pit and avoiding the statue, Zeldin looks around the outskirts of the room, catching sight of an odd circular shape in the stone. Looking a bit closer, it looks to be about a 3 foot round doorway that could be pivoted open.

Karth swings his body around to look at the door, exhaling hard as he realizes it wasn't a trap that had triggered. "Strange that the visor itself opened the door. What do the eyes do, then?" he wonders aloud. "Hiding the trigger to a trap so well seems unlikely... But then perhaps it is layovers to catch meddlers."

Karth hesitates, waiting for input from the others on whether to explore the new doorway or to puzzle over the buttons.

Liberty's Edge

Two quick notes: I'm going to fire off a couple emails to some of the others to make sure everyone is still active. We are slowing down some and I do want to keep the game live.

Second(and possible opposing the first goal) is just a heads up that I am going to be out of the state from Thursday through the weekend, I intend to have my laptop with me but I don't expect to have a lot of time on it so I will probably be quiet for a few days at the end of the week.

I hope you enjoy your trip Tarlane. How is the e-mail roll call going?

Occa wrote:

"I believe that is a fine idea, where shall we begin?."

Male

"Karth if you would care to do the honors?"

Resistance and guidence on karth and myself please.

"Mr Tarr, Larayn, I suggest you stand clear in case something goes wrong."

Karth nods. With little fanfare, he jabs a finger into the statue's left eye, turning to observe his surroundings as soon as the deed is done.

Liberty's Edge

Dice Rolls

Spoiler:
2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10

Pushing in the statues left eye has an immediate ramification as a powerful jolt of electricity runs through Karth's arm for just a second, though its still enough to scorch his fingertip and nearly causes his knees to buckle.

Karth, you take 10 damage. The dice weren't with you on that one.

Tarlane wrote:

It occours to me Tarlane, as I note some of Karth's more obscure curse words for future use, that a certain 'love' is currently out of a job. And we do have two clerics..... We could do a quick character-ectomy and retcon 'love' in the bedroom. Wait that did not come out so well....... Occa would be missed but I think, to misquote a well known band, Love is what we need. Noter I will enjow playing either but the group might enjoy having a rogue more than a second cleric. Thoughts?

Liberty's Edge

We are early enough into your introduction to the rest of the group that I don't have any problem with it if you would prefer to switch over to Love and drop him down to level 1. Having a rogue could certainly add for some balance in this dungeon, particularly one who is as focused on his job as Love was intended to be. Assuming no one else has any problem with this idea, feel free to roll him back and I'll give approval.

Thanks. I like Occa, but this game screams 'Love.' I really hope the others are ok with swapping out a wind and waves cleric for a dwarven trap specialist.

Background would be the same. Entered the delve with Occam's Raiders. They blew themselves up and Love met the potato fairy.

So what say you all? Any objections to a quick retcon?

I am fine with the switch... But the name asks questions that demand answers! :) How did you pick that name?

This room holds him in some sort of awe... There are so many choices, and it is far more impressive than any place he has ever seen before.

Seeing Karth injured Zeldin hurries forward to see if he can be of assistance.
