Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hey all I am currently DMing a campaign.

Ill skip the plot and get to the point.

to sum up:

Characters are in an alchemical tomb, that tomb is full of advanced steam-punk like alchemical tech.

One of the things in there is a Giant tarrasque power level simliar, though not like the tarrasque, warforged (eberron campaign setting) like creature of collosal size.

The release of this giant abomination triggers the release of the tarrasque... but in my world I am making it so the tarrasque is one of four other tarrasques!

messed up right.

The other "Tarrasques" are representations of the other elements.

Such as the Pyrasque, Hydrasque, and the Aerosque, with the tarrasque being the earth elemented one.

I have a general idea of what the other three look like but as far as abilities go I am totally stuck, I cant just give them all carapace that would be lame.

They need to have abilities that reflect the element they come from.

The earth tarrasque has a carapace of defense(like the resolution the earth possesses), regeneration (like the earths plants), and is very strong and powerful(like the earth).

The toughest part is making sure NONE and I mean NONE of any of the abilities for any of these creatures is magical. They can be similiar to the tarrasques in nature, that is with no magic like effects. Supernatural and Extraordinary abilties fully welcome.

Pyrasque (fire worm creature that swims in lave)

Hydrasque (Multifinned whale like creature with the lantern fish back things and light)

Aerosque (Totally clueless but I would like it to fly without wings or magic because both of those are overdone. Maybe some kind of air propulsion body system or someting?)

Any help would be appreciated and I value all your opinions!

Oh and also with the big mechy tarrasque like guy, preferably mundane powers or alchemical ones but magic might not be outta the realm of possibility. :)

Liberty's Edge

Pyrasque - Give it the fire subtype and the fire-breathing of a dragon (the latter is Su). You could also make the fire-breathing Ex using the explanation of chemical pouches that each shoot different liquids that combust when combined.

Hydrasque - Ex blinding attack? The battle being underwater makes that stuff hard enough. The ability to squirt out jets of water to "bull rush" characters would be interesting.

Aerosque - Maybe it's a lighter-than-air craft? Some kind of internal ballast. Like nature's version of a hot-air balloon. It would definitely need ranged attacks as such a propulsion method would be slow. Likely some kind of long-reaching tendril to grab things from far away to bring them close and bite.

Take all of the tarasques abilities and change them to suit the element. One thing that comes to mind is taking his spike ability(ranged attack) and changing it to alchemical fire(ice) for the fire(water) one. Make the damage comparable to tarasque but lower the damage and give it splash and base damage(kinda like an alchemists bombs) or something. The mecha one could also have both of these attacks as actual alchemical and not natural ones.
As far as the aeroasque flying without wings. Perhaps an air bladder/digestive system that converts oxygen into helium(or perhaps heats the air making it less dense allowing it to jump for even longer distances that his earthly cousin.

edit: ninjad on the air bladder thing. But the tentacle is a great Idea. Emrakul or any of the gomazoa cards from magic are a good visual for what I'm seeing it as.

The water one could be a squid perhaps or a tentacless jellyfish with spouts for the bull rush thingy. I'm saying tentacless because after being grabbed by the aeroasque and dropped i'm sure your party will be so pissed at seeing tentacles anywhere. Oh wait you were visualizing a fish so maybe skip that but give it a dazeish ability attached to its angler fish dohicky.

I'm seeing the fire one as a massive crocodile with similar attacks.

What about the defensive abilities? what makes them tough to kill.

I really really like your ideas

The fire breathing is eh to me, not that it doesnt make sense just dont want it to come off as too much of a dragon like worm thing. breathe weapons are very cool but they arent unique like the carapace of the Tarrasque.

The blinding attack I LIKE. very cool. As for the bull rush water jets also equally impressive, you are very on your game for the water one.

I kinda like the flying aspects you both suggest. I thought maybe a sqhere like creature with many mouths and orafices that spit air back out. The mouths look like the monster thing on tatuine on starwars mouth (tooths on a jagged circular mouth). Maybe it inhales victimes and rips them to pieces throught body vent system? seems kinda out there though trying to dumb it down :S

I also want them to serve evolutionary purposes similiar to the tarrasque (The tarrasque has the carapace to protect it from dragons that fly about and cast spells, atleast thats what I hypothesized.)

Turns out the lantern fishs light thing is for counter illumination that provides camouflage, fun fact.

basically i view the tarrasque as earths recycling bin, whenever the earth says" better start over" it releases these things, which do the job.

Thank you very much for your suggestions so far, just excellent.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2013

I would make the 'aerosque' ancient and bloated, with moss growing on it and that sort of thing. I'd have it full of gas that keeps it afloat and let it swim slowly through the air. Its chemical makeup pushes all moisture away from it, so the very dry, dusty air around it is a great environment for creating nonmagical static discharges, so that when it contacts the ground or another creature not atuned to it, is releases a blast of electricity.

Now it flies and shocks stuff without any magic. I'd also rule that the bloating chambers in the outer layer of its skin discharge a blast of poisonous air when carved into - so give it contact poison or disease and a bull rush attempt. Give the 'aerosque' Combat Reflexes so it can club people moved through its threatened squares by this blast. Of course, its fast healing and regeneration abilities seal up any holes and the mosnte generates more gas to keep itself aloft.

Without knowing more of the plot, I am tempted to think of this as a little twinkish, but then who can refuse a plot with multiple tarrasques? Really, the campaign should be called 'kick-asque'.

You sire are a gentlemen and a scholar!

I like alot of that and will take it very much into consideration.

What more of the plot would you like to know? (I was just trying to not type too much for people to read)

and lastly, the kick-asque comment just made my day hahahah

Look up the magic card of the red card engine worm, thats along the lines of where I am going. The one with deathlink and life link. Just as a visual thought, different abilities mostly

I beg you forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haha

For the fire version, you could get Xotani's stats from Pathfinder 24 (final wish). Xotani's called the Firebleeder for a reason...

Scarab Sages

I just got off of work(Nightclub Bartender...), and am bleary-eyed, so I can't offer much...
however, your Alchemical Tarresque brought Mecha-Godzilla to mind, and for that I say 'Awesome!'

Where can I find that? Sounds terribly interesting

poor basterd... get some sleep.

And thank you haha, I was thinking more along the lines of "The IRon Giant" movie but who knows, I havent really decided what it looks like. Might just be a mech version of the tarrasque with a combo of all the elements implemented into it.

Wow, found it. thank you. that is literally exactly what I was going for... scary.

Rovagug must have entered your mind already. Do you here whisperings on the edge of hearing, which you cannot quite understand but seem to urge you to depraved acts of destruction?

You're probably one bad deed away from getting jet-black skin, glowing eyes and white hair. If I were you, I'd pick a demon lord to worship now to save time later!

;-)

I was wondering why I looked so different... and why I decided to punch that old lady in the face.... and then set her on fire and sacrifice her to the powers that be...

oh god... i mean... oh rovagug?... its happening...

No no, that's perfectly normal. Helping out the pension fund.

you have no idea how long I laughed.

Your jester picture is highly appropriate.

Well, I have an idea.

Anyway, there are actually new laws in the making that are supposed to disburden the pension fund!

Every citizen over 65 is allowed to cross the road during red light.

Every citizen over 70 is required to cross the road during red light.

(Well, these might not be actual laws, but that's just because nobody listens to me ;-P)

Now if only the economic system didnt get destabilized by random adventurers killing dragons and taking their treasure hoards.

Gold means so much less now...
