How Long Ago?

Legacy of Fire

I'm not sure if this is a question that the adventure creators left intentionally unanswered, or if I just haven't been able to find the answer all the times I've scoured the Legacy of Fire books.

In what year did the battle between Jhavhul's and Nefeshti's armies take place?

So far all I've found for an answer is a vague "hundreds of years ago."

We're vague on purpose, as we are with a lot of timeline stuff, since that lets each GM customize the timelines as according to his needs and preferences. If you just want to be able to give your PCs specific dates, the best bet is to say that Jhavhul came to the Material Plane about 200 years ago and work from there. (Nefeshti was already there on the Material plane, though...)

For Example:

4480 AR: Nefeshti arrives on the Material Plane and creates the Templars of the Five Winds
4522 AR: Jhavhul arrives on the Material Plane.
4523 AR: Jhavhul escapes bondage to Ezer.
4524 AR: Jhavhul is imprisoned in Kakishon. Shirak hides the scroll.

800 years ago works just as well.

The actual time during which Jhavhul was out and about doing his thing, though, was relatively short, certainly not more than 3 years and possibly less than 1 year. If he were runing amok for decades or centuries, he would have been remembered, and we would have mentioned him in the PCCS hardcover.

I don't think Paizo hass been more specific than that, probably to give the GM's the freeedom to play with the dates and give us more flexibility.

HotCK lets us know that it was more than 200 years ago, because that's when early settlers in the Kelmarane region met the ghost of Vardishal (pg. 24, Room A12 - Shrine to Vardishal). Better than that, I haven't been able to find. Then, again I'm only really conversant with book 1, as that's where my players are at present. Perhaps others know more.

Okay, I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed a date tucked away in one of the articles in one of the Legacy of Fire books.

Here are the dates I'm working with based on my starting year of 4701. We just finished Howl of the Carrion King. I needed the fall of Kelmarane to be 15 years ago, rather than the specified 20 to work with a character's backstory.

Spoiler:

c. -1500: The archmage-kings Nex and Geb rise to power in southeastern Garund.
c. -1000: The archmage Nex creates the Scroll of Kakishon.
c. 4200: Jhavul captures and imprisons Shazathared
4380 AR: Nefeshti arrives on the Material Plane and creates the Templars of the Five Winds
4422 AR: Jhavhul arrives on the Material Plane.
4423 AR: Jhavhul escapes bondage to Ezer. Arrives at the Pale Mountain, curse placed on palace in City of Brass
4424 AR: Jhavhul is imprisoned in Kakishon. Shirak hides the scroll.
4485 AR: Vardishal establishes monastery
4487 AR: Kelmarane founded
4577 AR: Vardishal slain by salamander
4687 AR: Xulthos imprisoned
4691AR: Ghost banished from monastery
4696 AR: Carrion King Arrives in Pale Mountain
4701 AR (14 Calistril): Kardswaan descends under the church and is possessed by Xulthos
4701 AR (11 Gozren): Sultan’s Claw burns
4701 AR (23 Gozren): Current day

I was just curious Shammond if you purposefully had vardishal establish the monastery when he was alive in your campaign, or if you had missed the part where he appeared as a ghost to the pilgrims? Its easy to miss.

Good question, my understanding was that he founded the monastery and then his ghost haunted it later. In skimming back through, I see that was wrong. Here is a tweaked timeline to reflect that. Here is a tweaked timeline to account for that.

I should note that some of these dates have been mined from other forum threads, I can't take credit for all of this.

For my own campaign, I've decided on 3256-3257 AR to be the period of time from Jhavhul finding Xotani's grave to Andrathi tearing open the Scroll of Kakishon.
