Bards vs Silence spells

I'm wondering what a singing bard can do to counter a silence spell cast on him?

DANCE!

(like a monkey optional)

All styles of Perform are a class skill for Bards - the bard character may be better at singing but this doesn't restrict them from using other styles of performance when needed.

The singing bard simply continues their bardic performance with a visual performance, finds the source of the silence and hits it over the head with something heavy.

As far as spell casting goes?

...silent spell: Dispel?

O-o

*shakes fist*

In addition to using Perform: Act and Perform: Dance as BenignFascist wisely suggests...

Also check with your GM... Countersong works against "spells that rely on sound." Silence in a way could technically qualify--but I would definitely put that up to the GM's interpretation.

Alternately, draw sword/bow and fight? Bard's got d8 hit die and 3/4 BAB after all--should be able to hold his own for awhile.

Make the Will save?

Alright so that's not what you meant.

I would suggest he use a rod of silent spell to do something mean, or another magical device with a method to remove the effect.

Beyond that not all bardic performances rely on sound and he still has a lot of good access to various means of doing things -- I would suggest using one of them instead of spells.

Scarab Sages

How about switching to sign-language for the rest of the performance? It is a good idea to keep a few spells handy that rely on the physical.

If the spell is cast on him specifically and he did not make his save then he should use that to his advantage and get in real close and personal with the spell caster who did this to him. Turn about is fair play and shoving the pointy end of the rapier into the caster while silent just means the caster is limited in the spells she can produce to protect herself.

Now if the spell was placed on a object to avoid all those saving throw complications, just toss the object back and keep on singing.

A bard can use a Silent Metamagic Rod that would allow him/her to cast 3 spells a day if affected by a silence spell.

Perform: Mime, of course.

No they can't. Bards are not allowed to use the metamagic silence feat to cast spells.

Quote:

Silent Spell (Metamagic)
You can cast your spells without making any sound.

Benefit: A silent spell can be cast with no verbal components. Spells without verbal components are not affected. A silent spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spell's actual level.

Special: Bard spells cannot be enhanced by this feat.
