Maybe Apple's Orwellian control over it's app store isn't such a bad thing after all.

This thread is not about what I thought it was going to be about...

Apple wasn't much better in the early days. However you'd think Google would have learned. The iBoyz been getting better but they still some ways to go. Mainly they need to make any app that uses location services listed in the preferences/settings like apps that use push notification so they can be selectively disable or enabled. Right now the only way to do it in iOS is to rest all location warning messages.

Google is really going to need to tighten down controls on it's App store if it wants to bring real money making developers to the list. They've been called on it several times since they opened the market.

They don't need to lock down and wall off like Apple did, but a "Google Partner/Developer" program like the Apple Developers, with a fee and program checking by a Google team along with an "official" stamp would go a long way to. People would not be required to submit to a "Google marked" store but as a consumer we'd at least have that choice of know someone else has actually gone over the App and that is "safer" and more in line with Googles best practices guidelines.

Independent app makers would still be able sell, they just wouldn't have a Google Quality Assurance stamp.

Interesting study, but it looks like they published too early, already had to do at least one retraction because of errors on their part.
