Version 4.6 of the Pathfinder files are now available from the automatic updates mechanism within Hero Lab.
The big news is the release of the Player's Companion Material. The following packages are now available for purchase:
Adventurer's Armory: ($4.99)
Regions 1: Osirion, Land of the Pharaohs; Taldor, Echoes of Glory; and Qadira, Gateway to the East. ($4.99)
Regions 2: Cheliax, Empire of Devils; Andoran, Spirit of Liberty; and Sargava, the Lost Colony. ($4.99)
Races 1: Elves of Golarion, Dwarves of Golarion, and Gnomes of Golarion. ($4.99)
The Races 2 package: Orcs of Golarion (along with Humans of Golarion and Halflings of Golarion when those are released) was delayed slightly, and should be available early next month. It will also be $4.99.
We're also offering all those packages as a bundle - all 5 for $19.99. (If you purchase this now, you'll get the books in the Races 2 package as free updates as they become available).
This update also includes the normal sort of content updates. I'm back up to date on Adventure Path material - Pathfinder #35, #36, and #37 and the Serpent's Skull Player's Guide.
From the APG, the Hero Point rules have been added (if you have the APG package, note that the Hero Point rules are not enabled by default, you'll need to check them within the Hero Settings).
This update also includes a few bug fixes.
If you haven't given Hero Lab a try yet, take a look at the Hero Lab page of our website - there you can download the program and try it out in demo mode. The only things you won't be able to do in demo mode are save characters and print them (you can use print preview to see what they'll look like)

I just bought my copy of Hero Lab, and so far I'm pretty satified with it. The only issue I'm having with the program (and it's not a major issue at that), is my printed character sheet lists some of my weapons and attacks on one sheet, and some on the following sheet. Again, not a major problem. I just need to play with program some more :)

I actually like using Hero Lab to make/manage my characters, but then transfer the data to another character sheet. For the most part the sheet that you can print out from Herolab is decent enough, but I don't like the way some info gets divided up.
This. I will say that it's an absolutely brilliant program for character generation, I'm just not totally happy with the way it outputs things.
For example, it seems to mix special abilities, racial abilities, feats, and traits all together...I'd prefer them to be divided into seperate sections. I like the "Show Feat/Ability Descriptions" but I'd rather there was an option to only show the feat/ability name on the character sheet proper, with a Notes page added on that would include the full description (ie, not truncated at 4 lines). This "Notes" page could also expand on weapons with special abilities, etc.

You know I run my character from Hero-Lab now, and the only problem I really have with the program is the dice roller and tactical console. Why aren't they bound together!?!? They're just a little awkward to move around the screen, and having a visual dice roller anchored onto the main profile would save me LOADS of time tooling around the program.
That's my criticism, now onto the glorification segment;
I have NEVER had such a good program for tracking inventory. I use a potion, its gone. I pick up a tangelfoot bag, it'll be there next time I look. It's great, and with inventory being one of the BIG problems (I think) in Pathfinder, having a living, breathing document of a character sheet has made a world of difference. Overall I'm very happy running my character from HeroLab, and I'd highly recomend it to anyone who's on the fence about it.

Rather than start a new thread....
I am the DM and also keep track of all the PCs in the group. In my current PC character tool, if I load up all 6 characters, there is an option to create a "party" html output sheet. The program comes with several but I have created my own. This allows me to have all the saves in one place, all the important (IMHO) skills in one place, etc.
Can I do this with HeroLab, ie have a party sheet?

This is a capability we would like to add, but have not had the time to implement yet.

I assume you refer to the tool which also have a hand in maintaining and advertising? Seriously, 'can yours do what mine does'?
The lack of class in this kind of post is phenomenal.Papa-DRB |
Mathias Gehl,
Thank you for the response. When this feature is available, I will need to look at HeroLab again.

Wolfthulhu,
You do not know me. You do not know my reasons for asking this question. According to your logic, anyone who uses HeroLab should not ask a question in any other Character Generator thread/forum. Congratulations, you have made my ignore list. (thank goodness for GreaseMonkey and the Ignore script).

Wow, sensitive much? I mean, how dare I question your motives when you work with a competing program? (Clue: It has nothing to do with you using whatever program you darn well wish to.)
And yeah, I know you can't see this but that's ok. I still get the small satisfaction that you ran and hid rather than address my comment.

Hero Labs is chock full of awesome. Once my group started working with it, we were all converted. There are a few minor things that need to be addressed and features to be added in the future, but nothing comes close to it IMHO. Playing Pathfinder without it at this point is taking a big step backwards.

Myself, I love it.
I've avoided programs like this in the past but when my recent character bit the dust and i was left with the prospect of building several characters to find one that might fit the vacancy- Hero Lab helped tons.
Loved being able to make 5-6 wizard builds, complete with varied spell lists, as well as a druid, summoner and bard to figure out what I wanted and didn't want to play next.
An hour or two with HL rather than a day or two fiddlin with various builds and double checking math.
A+

Agreed. I allow someone in my group to run HeroLab made character from his laptop during our sessions. I LOVE the inventory component of it. But the dice rollers do seem to take awhile....I'll ask for a check and it'll take him far longer than just picking up the dice and rolling. But as a character sheet control freak DM, I think it doesn't do enough on the print outs either.

I've recently started using Hero Lab on my netbook at the table. Love it, though I wish I had a full sized laptop, tablet or something else with a bigger screen. I don't use the dice roller. Tried it, but it just isn't as much fun as having actual dice on the table.

I prefer to use my own dice as well. And, yes, I have a huge laptop and it is great having all that real estate for the program to run it in.
