Something similar for Mac OS?

Probably not any time; I don't have the bandwidth for a fourth platform. Parallels/VMWare/Virtual Box is the best I can offer you.

So no, nothing for Mac. Besdies, I don't think it's a big enough platform to warrant a release on it. You can always use something like Wine I think.

I don't know - it's quite popular among the users I work with. I would not say 50/50, but certainly not an insignificant number.

But yeah, Kyle has determined that he's not going to add direct support for the Mac platform.

I think Mac is decent sized platform; with Parallels et al being available I just haven't thought it was worth the investment when I've still got PC, iOS, and now Android to work on. It's resting somewhere in the middle of the pile of things that would be cool if I had time (iPhone, Android phones, Windows 8, Windows phone, HP-48G).

I'm already behind on PC and iOS updates because of the work on Android (although I think a PC update comes out this week. iOS has complications at the moment that I need to dig into.) Right now I need to finish off Android, catch up with everything and then I can consider my next move. I suspect that would be more new features and not a new platform.

I'm beta testing your android version bravo bravo.... it looks good in your tablet photos you show but the spacing and and field sizes do something funky in vertical mode on a phone sized screen(maybe a scaling in the settings menu might fix this). But code wise it seems solid I have not had any crashes. And suggestion to add possibly if you feel ambitious, an option to save the files to google drive might make tossing files back and forth from the desktop version it.

You can install the beta on a phone via Testflight, but you won't be able to via the Google Store. It's not designed to run on anything smaller than a 7 in tablet. If you install it on a phone, it gets squished (although it shouldn't crash).

I do have it through testflight.

I was just wondering if you wanted some screenshots for debugging purposes if you plan to make it work on any screen size in the future of its development. And if so where do you want them sent. I try to be an active beta tester not just coast and get free stuff also I did get a white screenout lock out that I had to reboot once. I'm trying to recreate it so I can determine the cause or function but as of yet it only happened once on my gs4. Also on custom NPC the initiative doee not want to save from the edit screen.

hey Kyle, just wanna say love the program, and if you need help with anything lemme know (my expertise with programming is nil, but I know some stuff.). I had a question from our wrath of the righteous gm; do you have an idea when the wrath stuff will be in combat manager?

Probably sooner in PC, later in iPad because I need to resolve some minor issues before I can create a new iPad release.

chopswil does db updates and I pick them up and eventually get them in. I know he's up to AP 74 at the least. I've got some of his last update already in CM, but I haven't done anything to account for the Mythic properties on monsters or treasure, so that's up in the air.

I'd like to have a build out this week for PC (with a pile of other fixes thanks to some coding help), but that's not set in stone.

Is Chopswil on the forums?

Combat Manager update to 1.5.3

Reduce memory load and improve startup performance
Treasure, Monster, and Spells update
Various bug fixes

CombatManager.com

For some reason, Combat Manager crashed completely when I tried to open it after the update.

I tried uninstalling everything and deleting all the files in order to do a clean install, and almost everything worked. When I try to import my custom spells, however, it crashes every single time. I don't have any clue why.

Actually, after a quick check of something, I found out exactly why it's crashing. Trying to set any spell to Level 10 crashes Combat manager now (where it didn't before), and I had a lot of spells set to Level 10 in my database (representing the Epic Spells).

Not sure what changed, though, that's still a mystery to me.

Can't seem to go back and edit my previous post. Ignore the whole thing, please. This is the real problem.

After a quick check of something, I thought it was crashing because of spells set to Level 10. After fixing that, I was still getting crashes. I also thought trying to put custom saving throw modifiers in (i.e. make "Will negates" into "Will negates (DC +10)" was also making it crash. In the end, I cleared it all out and found the culprit.

Any attempt to modify spells in any way, regardless of how, will result in Combat Manager crashing now.

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

A really weird error here, all my custom monsters are now showing up with really weird mythic ratings attached (none of them had any before). The mythic ratings almost seem random, and a lot of them would certainly be illegal if they were applied (eg. MR 298 applied to a CR 7 creature).

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Hmm, the custom monster with Mythic Rating thing seems to only appear with preexisting monsters in the custom monster database. If I import a monster from a cmpt file, the program doesn't seem to spontaneously stick a MR onto it.

The msi installer does not install on wondows 8 as is: Install as elevated permissions. If you need to know how to do this the interweb has plenty of listed way to do this. But it would be nice to be able to install it as is.

Wait, so is the beta in the play store currently? I'd love to test it out on my n7 and my n10.

Hi All,
I just installed this app on the iPad and I can't for the life of me figure out how to open a hero lab .por file with it - is this possible? If so, how is it done and what intermediate apps are perhaps required?
Best,
C

You need to use the iTunes interface to copy the file to the device.

The db upgrade didn't work as expected for the two new Mythic fields. It gave them all a value of 1 for some reason or another. I have a temporary fix created that I'll push out relatively soon, when I figure out what's up with these other issues. For now, just pretend it's not there :)

DreamGoddessLindsey wrote:

Hmm. There are a couple of db updates that don't seem to have worked the way I expected in this build.

I think I've got a fix for this. Give this a try:
CMInstallerTest.msi

That works and fixes the problem with the spells. Only thing is you have to do a clean install for it to work. If you try to install over the old Combat Manager, and have custom content, it'll just hang forever while trying to load it. On a clean install, importing custom content, everything works find.

Awesome.

Not sure if this is a thing or not, but it's kinda slow to load compared to the previous version. It might just as easily be my computer or something else. It loads, so no biggie.

Great work as usual, Kyle.

Hmm. The clean install/overwrite shouldn't make any difference. When you uninstall, all of the AppData hangs around. The only way to clean it up is to delete all the data in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Combat Manager. You spells/bestiary/feats dbs should still be in place.

Was your Spells DB empty after a clean install? And were you doing an import (Import Custom Data) after installing?

DreamGoddessLindsey wrote:

Yeah, there's a theoretical big performance and memory improvement in loading the monsters, spells, treasure, but there's also a big increase in the size of the db that counters the improvement somewhat, if not completely on some systems. I've got more work I can do to improve performance.

Thanks Kyle. I was curious, any chance of enabling the use of .por files upon clicking them locally on the iPad with "Open With"? It would definitely streamline the process not having to use the desktop.

Oh, when I say clean install, I mean I not only uninstalled it but also deleted the "\AppData\Roaming\Combat Manager" folder as well.

I deleted everything and then used "Import Custom Data" to import all my custom content, which I keep in a Backup.cmx file.

Found another bug. Remember the bug that was present before that make Combat Manager crash when trying to select "Between" two CRs when looking for monsters? It's back. So yeah, just selecting "Between" on the CR menu crashes the program.

Bad data. I'll have it out with the other fixes this week.

Just to be clear, it's not chopswil's data that was bad. It's completely correct but my parser wasn't prepared to handle it.

Will there ever be a tutorial video how to run Combat Manager? I want to try it when I run a game, but it feels very daunting. I don´t know how to use the program properly.I´m using Hero Lab.

I spent many hours one weekend not so long ago working on a tutorial, but I wasn't happy with it and it was ultimately lost when a HD crashed.

What is it you find yourself needing the most help with? If I do try again to make a video it would be helpful to know.

If you use something like VirtualBox. It won't run with Wine.

Hey,

first of all, thanks a lot for your dedicated work with this application, it’s much appreciated and I’ve already donated a small amount to support you :-)

This question has probably already been answered somewhere in this thread, but it has grown way too big for me to comb through all of it. How long does it usually take you to update the CM with the new books Paizo publishes each month and how do we get the new data? Is there a hidden “Update” button or is the only way to do so to download new versions for the CM once they are available?

Thanks in advance for answering and keep up the great job!

First [yes] there is an update button as well as several other unimplemented screens. All the button does is become visible when a new version is available and takes to you to the download site if you click on it.

If you want the newest updates before kyle releases a version, you will need to compile them yourself. the program is in C# compiled in VS 2010.

Kyle, I donate every time Combat manager knocks my socks off, and that happens with alarming regularity. This program enables me to run fights involving CR 20 enemies and a party of 7 level 16 characters in an hour or even less. Good work.

If you have the time, please: A power attack button that automatically based on a creature's HD adds the attack penalty and damage bonus to their attacks. If this is already implemented, awesome.

A satisfied user

There isn't, but you can (somewhat) do it yourself. First, note on each character what "level" of power attack they have. BAB 1-3 is Lv.1, 4-7 is Lv.2, etc. Basically, the "level" is the attack penalty, and double it for the damage bonus.

Then make a custom condition for each one that gives an attack penalty and damage bonus. "Power Attack Lv.1 (1 Hand)" would be Attack -1 and Damage +2. "Power Attack Lv.1 (2 Hands)" would be Attack -1 and Damage +3. "Power Attack Lv.10 (1 Hand)" for BAB 36-39 would be Attack -10 and Damage +20. You get the idea. Basically, make a condition for each "level" of power attack for both 1 Hand and 2 Hands.

Whenever someone uses power attack, give them the appropriate condition. Remove it when they stop. I do this with a ton of bonuses and penalties. I even fixed several of the spells that don't do anything currently, like Heroes' Feast (fixed it gives +1 Attack/CMB and +1 Will), Heroic Invocation (fixed it gives +4 Attack/CMB and +4 Damage). I have a ton of custom conditions on my Combat Manager to handle all of this stuff.

Hi Kyle, i just bought combat manager, nice product. Can't wait to try it at the next session.

I have a question though: is it possible to create a new monster and add it to the list of monsters to be re-used later?

Thanks!

There's no ability to do that on iPad, as much as I keep intending to add it in some day.

The best option is to edit the monster with no other monsters loaded and save that monster in a file.

Hey Kyle, I'd just like to say you have a fantastic program here. I've gotten everyone who GMs in my game group hooked on it.

I was curious though if I may make a feature request for a future version?

Would it be possible to have some kind of quick monster advancer button or check box in the combat tab? Just to keep from having to swap back and forth between the monster tab and combat tab to add new advanced monsters to a combat that's getting generated on the fly.

Completly forgot this: well, mostly a walkthrough how to run Combat Manager during a session, with focus how to make combat easier for me as a DM (handling monsters and pcs, initiative, the dice roller, etc).

I have a bug report.

It seems that in the most recent version, a lot of the text is cut off at weird spots. An example is the Devourer, whose spell-like abilities are cut off after the first. Another is Prismatic Spray, with the information being cut off after only one paragraph. This seems to affect most parts of Combat Manager.

Is this in the normal release version or the test version of the application I released a couple of weeks back?

I believe in the test version. Yeah, pretty sure since I needed the ability to mod spells.

FYI,
I'm done inputting data for Bestiary 4.
should be posted on google docs/d20pfsrd.com by tomorrow

I dunno if this has been brought up (by me or others), but...

When you edit skills for monsters, it'll only accept the results of the first edit. If you open the monster again, it'll look like your edits stick, but the next time you open Combat Manager, it'll change back.

I haven't noticed the INT score issue so I don't know if that's been resolved or not, but I have noticed the skill editing problems with some of the custom monsters I created using 1.5.3, with the exception that I can't get it to behave consistently. Sometimes it erases the changes I make. Other it doesn't, even if the process is ended prematurely (via task manager or forced shutdown) instead of exited normally. Not sure what I did differently each time

Skill data also seems to be lost during the process of exporting and importing creature data

Very nice and helpful program!

Just had a quick question concerning the display of save modifier texts. I was wondering how to edit save modifiers for racial traits (such as +2 vs enchantments for the Will save). I see it on monsters such as Spellsword but I can't seem to find a way to actually edit it for other characters/monsters and for it to show up on the display pane.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for not responding sooner I have been working out of state a lot. Unfortunately that "data" is not accessible at this time, it is incorporated in the monster stat-block but not available in the monster editor. The information is stored in a text string and parsed by use of regular expressions, a method I dislike (regular expressions make my eyes bleed) but that is the current system kyle is using.

My suggestion is to enter the information in the resist field in the monster editor it will appear in the defenses area below the saves. If you really want it there you can edit the .xml file the character is stored in, If this a character you created in the monster editor you are out of luck, it is stored in a sqlite .db and the Saves text block is ignored and only the integer values are used.

Combat manager is using a somewhat convoluted data storage system right now, I think kyle is trying to consolidate it but I don't know for sure. He has not posted any updates to the source code in a while.

All of that being said I use a custom version of Combat Manager with some things not in the version kyle releases. I will install a standard version and see if that makes a difference.

I have been writing a new Herolab import for Combat Manager that has taken all my time, once I get it integrated in Combat Manager I will turn my attention back to the main source code and try to resolve some problems.

B.T.W. Merry Christmas Everyone
