Are there any d20 OGL products that used them as defenses instead of saves?

Not that I know of.

You could always just do a quick conversion.

Save + 10 becomes a static number.
DC - 10 + 1d20 becomes the attack.

Here is some rules for the players do all the rolls (saving throws and save attacks). I would find it hard to believe half of that was not open.

Oh my. Those rules look very suiting. I really should take the time one day to read through Unearthed Arcana thoroughly.

So OGL questions, would using those rules require referencing UA or just the SRD in the notice?

Same questions applies to modifying those rules.

UNfortunately Unearthed Arcana got the maths wrong - it shouldn't be 11 + Save Modifier, it should by 12 + Modifier. Ditto for rolling AC Modifier versus 12 + Attack Modifier.

E.g. suppose you would normally make a roll with a +4 Reflex versus a DC of 17 to avoid a spell (4th level spell cast be someone with a +3 Ability Mod).

Normally, to succeed and avoid the spell you would need to roll a 13 or more on the d20. That is a 40% chance of success.

So if you were to roll the spell's Level + Ability Modifier (+7) against a static Reflex Defense and get the same chance of the target avoiding the attack (40%) the DC would need to be 16, i.e. you would have to roll an 8 or less to fail. Given this, the formula for Defenses shoudl be 12 + Save Modifier.

Pretty sure you reference it as Unearthed Arcana. My copy of Trailblazer by Bad Axe lists it (as well as the SRD) under section 15 (copyright notice) on the OGL page.

I use the players roll all the dice option, and though I never realized the percentages were off, it has worked really well. It keeps the players engaged even when it's not their turns and it saves me a bunch of hassle.

If you use the site I linked, you might be fine just referencing it.

But I'm no lawyer, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

It usually gives the PCs a little bit of an advantage so its all cool :) The M&M option in the Masterminds Manual doesn't even use 11, but 10 for convenience, meaning the odds are off by 10%, but it kind of works because it makes the PCs more likely to succeed (as they should in the genre).
