Charged Through and Mounted Combat

I would like to know who needs to have the requirements for the use of Charged Through: the rider or the mount? And if it were the mount, then would that mean it is impossible to use that feat (Charged Through) if you couldn't put feats to your mount (with the exception of a Paladin, Cavalier, Druid, Summoner)? Because it would require the mount to have Power Attack and Improved Overrun. Is there any way to put feats to a mount if you are not one of those classes?

mount would need its the one making the charge.

anyone can put feats on a mount using the leadership feat since cohorts can gain charcter levels if they have more than 3 int

if a mount has less than 3 int they're too stupid to aquire such a feat unless its part of thier base monster stat block

That's exactly the issue. I am DMing next Monday and I was thinking of throwing a gnoll chieftain (fighter level 6) with the new Roughrider archetype using a dire hyena (hyaenodon), using the new Charge Through feat. But it seems that it is impossible to achieve that since the mount, in this case the dire hyena, needs to take the feats and it only has a score of 2 on INT.

heh if your DMing there is no problem

rule of cool says gnoll/chief + mount can charge through

its certainly not overpowered to allow it from the example you've given, if you find it is a bit much for the group then have the cocky gnoll jump down off the mount (when he see's he's winning) to engade the group on the ground. and the dire hyena will just normal melee as well.

Please note a 4hd hyena gets a +1 stat increase which can be applied to Int.

Also it states quite clearly under animal companions the DM may allow other feats.

A hyena over-running things does not seem out of character to me, as it is how they tend to tackle prey smaller than them but not bite sized.

But again, you would need to be capable of giving feats to the dire hyena, hence you need to be a class allowed to do it, and not a simple fighter.

Feats are ALWAYS swap outable. You should be able to buy "specialty" horses with unusual feats anyway; maybe one with Toughness and Lightning Reflexes. Swapping out the feats is a cool way to model different horse breeds, in fact.

This was in a thread about barding proficiency, Combat Training, and when/how it applies to normal mounts vs animal companions vs Cavalier mount. He went on to post that you can never swap out a bonus feat, ala (b) Run for horses

Interesting... even though I do not know if there is a market for dire hyenas with Power Attack, Improved Overrun and Charge Through feats.
