The drow played a prominent role in the AP, Second Darkness. Same with the genies in Legacy of Fire? What race(s) would you like to see play similar roles in an AP?

Will ever see new factions available in OP?

Anything is possible, I suppose, but I suspect there's a better chance of factions going away entirely than adding new ones. We'll see.

Are there non-Pathfinder Roleplaying game supps that you've seen that really don't mesh well with Golarion? I'd think many of WotC's Eberron's features like the warforged, lightning rail, or elemental ships don't really fit the setting. What about Magic of Incarnum, though?

Dark Archive

Golarion has a lot of monsters. How does the ecology support them (i.e., what's the "base" creature(s) that support the food chain)?

Dark Archive

Have the Usij show up, yet, in any of the APs or mods?

How would Book of Erotic Fantasy work in Golarion?

Is Kelesh as big as the Tian Xia area?

Will we learn more about the Cyclopes civilization that once dominated Golarion?

That said, there ARE a few magus-type characters out there to use as inspiration in the literary world; Elric is one of them. There's others if one looks.

First character that jumps out at me would be Bleys from Roger Zelazny's brilliant Chronicles of Amber, along with the majority of the characters from that series, from one degree or another.

heya, it's been a while since I visited this thread and it's grown huge.
Red Hand of doom was one of yours I believe. Are you planning on doing another major module/AP around a war. (I'm aware of aspects of this in an AP currently out, I'm thinking more of a focus on a war, with the PC's developing through it?)If this has been asked before, then my appologies, haven't time to read over the last 200 odd posts I missed.

How'd the tooth replacement go? I vanished from the thread around that time, tought I'd check.

Since you've recently announced that the new Tian Xia AP will be primarily Japanese-themed, I thought I'd ask some Japan-centric questions:

What are some of your favorite Japanese films?

Do you prefer the nostalgic whimsy of Ozu or the dreamlike beauty of Mizoguchi?

Can we hope to see Kwaidan and Ugetsu-style Japanese ghost stories influence the AP?

And in a non-Japanese (but still Tian Xia) related query:

Is it so wrong that I love wuxia and hope to see its influence on your crafting of Tian Xia?

The Exchange

And something for the realism fans out there :)

If a fighter fell from a 200 foot cliff, and no one was around to see him survive, would anyone care?

Pathfinder Society Scenario Spoiler:
Eyes of the Ten, Part 3

... as mentioned by Erik Mona in the new Chronicles: Pathfinder Podcast episode, I'm getting pretty excited about the red moon of Golarion and would like to better familiarize myself with the Sword and Planet genre. What do you suggest I start with?

Is there a batsignal, I mean Jack-signal, to summon Blackjack if ever there's a problem with villains in Korvosa?

Who was your inspiration for Blackjack? Was he supposed to be Batman? The Scarlet Pimpernel? Zorro?

Is there some Robin Hood-esqe guy running around in Taldor robbing from the nobles to give to the poor?

Will there be dead Elder Things and a shoggoth up on the Crown of the World? Have I just ruined the plot of that portion of Jade Regent? Are you now going to put the writer in a headlock and make sure he comes up with something more imaginative than that?

Wait. What? Going away? What do you mean?

I mean only that adding new factions is REALLY not likely to happen.

I'm not going to give shout outs to other races at this time, though, simply because that would either reveal too much about unannounced APs or would create false buzz. Neither of which I want.
That's fine. Is the a possibility of reusing one (or more!) of the above races again in another AP?

Sure, I suppose so...

joela wrote:
Outside of the player races (i.e., dwarves, elves, etc.) what other humanoid race(s) could effectively challenge humanity for dominance over Golarion?

At this point, none. INCLUDING the non-human player races. Humans are the dominant race of Golarion, and shifting that balance away would require a SIGNIFICANT world-shaking event. And we're not fans of those except periodically as results of PC failure at an AP—none of which we'll ever implement as canon anyway.

Will we ever learn the secrets of such major organizations like the Decemvirate, Red Mantis Assasins, etc.?

Yup. Pathfinder #9 has a fair amount of info about the Red Mantis already, for example. When we DO reveal secrets like these, it'll likely be in the format of an Adventure Path. Maybe a novel.

Just where are the high-level (15th level+) and epic level NPCs on Golarion?

High level NPCs are in the last 2 installments of every Adventure Path.

Epic level NPCs are ??? until we figure out what our Epic level rules look like. They're certainly in locations in the Great Beyond though.

Plenty.

Eberron doesn't really fit much of Golarion's themes at all, although some elements do. Magic of Incarnum doesn't really fit either.

But that's my take. Whatever any single GM wants for their own Golarion is, in the end, what works best.

That's not really something that's worth going into too much detail on, to be honest, because the next thing you know you're getting worried about how dragons can fly or how giants can look like humans without super fat stumpy legs.

Beyond what showed up in Legacy of Fire's bestiaries and other articles... no.

Kingmaker really does cover the war elements for now... although the last Serpent's Skull adventure will have a bit of it as well. There are no plans to have an entire war adventure path yet... although that's not a bad idea.

Rashomon

I prefer dreamlike beauty.

Yes; there will be Japanese style ghosts in the AP at some point.

It's absolutely NOT wrong to love wuxia. There'll be elements of it in Tian Xia. But just as we put vikings and egyptians and robots and guns and pirates into the Inner Sea region... if that's an element someone DOESN'T like, it'll be relatively easy to ignore.

I would suggest posting to the Planet Stories thread, where Erik and Chris and Sutter are more likely to be able to provide you a more educated answer. My preference in the planet stories line would be to look to anything by Henry Kuttner, or perhaps to go with "The Ship of Ishtar."

Nope. Blackjack just knows where he's needed.

Nick Logue came up with Blackjack; he's part Zorro, part Batman, part Nick-probably-had-a-dozen-other-inspirations.

Robin Hood, if he lives anywhere, lives in Nirmathas.

There's certainly shoggoths up at the Crown of the World. Unlikely to be elder things, though... but maybe!

Why are hot chicks with white hair so attractive??(Merisiel and the Witch icon)

How come the Thaumaturge didn't get converted into Pathfinder?? I'm not sure if this was answered back during the initial release/playtest, but if it was, i don't remember the answer.

Is there any chance we'll see a class or PrC similar to the Factotum/Chameleon that's able to mimic other class abilities??

I know there are cars with a boomerang on their tail... maybe it's the same reason.

Liberty's Edge

Golarion’s elves are described as being ‘similar in many superficial ways to fey creatures’ – is that similarity likely to be explored or explained in future?

Liberty's Edge

In literature and mythology (especially ‘fairy tales’) elves are often closely related to fairies, even to the point of being interchangeable with fairies, pixies etc. Like fairy-tale elves and Tolkien’s elves, Golarion’s elves come from ‘elsewhere’, but deliberately not from ‘faerie’ (The First World), the niche of fey-like humanoids being filled by gnomes to good effect. Was there ever any thought in having elves being more closely related to fey or originally being from the First World?

What influenced the decision to have them come from an elsewhere that was not the First World?

Liberty's Edge

Did Sovyrian come from your homebrew game, or from another home game amongst the Paizo staff? Or was the name and general concept invented just for Golarion?

Liberty's Edge

When Golarion elves reach 350 + (or 700 or whatever) do they die, or do they, like elves in some previous editions of the game and Tolkien’s elves, ‘go elsewhere’? If the later, does this mean returning to Sovyrian or something else?

Liberty's Edge

If elves don’t die, how does Pharasma feel about that? How does she feel about gnomes potentially living forever? Do they get a hall pass for being sorta fey?

Liberty's Edge

Do elves use spaceships or space-dwelling creatures to get around between planets, or do they stick more with interplanetary gates?

Liberty's Edge

Oh ... and why are tall elves better than short elves?

And if so, how do they get from planet to planet to establish the gates in the first place?

Silver Crusade

In your take on it, what did Desna look like before she arrived on Golarion? Like she's commonly seen now? Something more alien but beautiful like the beings from The Abyss? Or alien and horrifying to human eyes? Or something else?

And what are the space angels referred to as hanging around the asteroid belt? Actual angels in space, or something else?

Good list. If you intend to do Japanese style ghosts, the above-mentioned films are the essential classics (Kwaidan and Ugetsu). You might also look at Onibaba, Jigoku, and Kurosawa's last film, Dreams.

Thanks for answering my questions, and glad to see there isn't a bias against Wuxia in Golarion.
