Here's one, sorry if it's been asked before among the 17,052 posts in this thread.
The Final Embrace Horror and Final Embrace Master feats from Ultimate Combat have Ability Focus (constrict) as a prerequisite.
Ability Focus (constrict) actually has no mechanical effect on the game (besides eating up a feat slot) since constrict doesn't require a saving throw.
WHAT IS GOING ON?!

The other image of Laori is in Faiths of Corruption. It has Sial, Asyra, Laori and the bone tower in it.
EDIT: Wow. The viking ship was hiding from my browser until I posted. Who knew that it was crewed by ninja!

Dear James Jacobs,
Since you're an Apple man, maybe you can help me out with this question. I just bought the iPad, and naturally one of my first tasks was to try and figure out how to put my lovely Pathfinder PDFs on it. What would you say is the best App for viewing Pathfinder PDFs on the iPad? I'm trying iBooks now, but its kind of a slow-loader and only does one page at a time.

Odraude wrote:Fair enough on the River Kingdoms. What region would you say, then? I get somewhat of an Eastern European mixed with Game of Thrones feel to it when I run the Kingmaker campaign.
Also, same question but with Varisia?
You could do a whole lot worse than look to Game of Thrones for inspiration... especially since those books were a HEAVY inspiration on Brevoy, which has a pretty key role in Kingmaker.
As for Varisia, that one's more or less most heavily based on my homebrew world rather than any one region... but there's a fair amount of northern California in a lot of the sensibilities and themes there, particularly in the western part of the region. Also a lot of Lovecraft, eastern europe, Greyhawk, Robert E Howard, Fritz Leiber, Ramsey Campbell, Stephen King... I could go on, but basically, Varisia is based on everything that I like in a fantasy campaign.
That's pretty cool.
Last question on the subject. You missed the inspirations for Katapesh and Qadira. I know they are based on the tales from Arabian Nights as well as Persia, but which one is which?

Poor design is going on, alas. :(
I would suggest changing Ability Focus (constrict) in that case to something else like Improved Natrual Attack or Improved Grab or something... and also would note the strangeness in that book's errata thread.

I've had pretty good success with Good Reader... but keep in mind that the PDFs of our books are SIGNIFICANTLY enormous. Particularly the hardcover rulebooks. It's not that the iPad runs the PDFs slow... it's that ALL PDF viewers run some of those larger files slow.

Hey James,
I've got a friend that is interested in running a Pathfinder campaign where everyone in the party is a human, half elf, or half orc child (~13 to 14). He is thinking about using the Super Genius Guide to Apprentice Levels (essentially Level 0) adventuring. Aside from that, though, he is curious and a bit worried on how being younger affects our characters. Given this info, how would you think being young would affect your stats and Party Average Level? Thank you.

In a PFS topic about Minimum Starting Age, someone asked what are the MinSA for non CRB classes, is there an answer? Will it be covered by the ARG?
Yes.
In the meantime, you can look at Dragon Empires Gazetteer's section on minimum starting ages to see what non core classes fall into what categories.

I think, first of all, that it'll make things quite a bit tougher. I'd start by applying the Young template and then going from there, though... and I'd err on the side of making encounters TOO easy as the GM before I got the feel for how the PCs were doing.

Oh yeah, most definitely. I think with the 0 level and being young, that'll drop our APL quite a bit. I'd say we'd have one lower CR than a level one commoner. So, I expect a CR 1 to be Hard and a CR 2 to be scary epic. But, I think it'll still be fun if we can handle it. I showed my friend your response and he agrees, perhaps lowering the Wisdom by 2 in addition since kids can be pretty dense :)

Do you think Pages is any good for writing things like Game PDFs? I'm thinking about writing up some of my homebrewed stuff for my player's mobile devices.

Where are the mechanical effects of the River Styx given? I can't find them anywhere that it would make sense. Great Beyond, Book of the Damned 3, nowhere.
Dungeon #149 has rules on the effects of the Styx. However, those are 3.5 rules, but they seem just fine for PF and specifically, Golarion.

The Drunken Dragon wrote:Thanks again for answering my previous questions. On a slightly unrelated note, how do you personally deal with evil PCs in your campaigns? Have you ever encountered this before? Do you even allow it in your games? Just a curiosity.I allow it, but I inform the player of the evil character that if they ever start messing with the other PCs... I won't take steps to hide that. It all plays out on the table. And if that player's playing of an evil character makes the game less fun for the other players... he has to be willing to retire that character as an NPC under my control and then replace that character with a brand new one.
AKA: It requires a really mature group of players to pull off.
Yeah, I used to know a gamer known as 'Evil Dave' because he always played Lawful Evil characters. Most GMs that forbade evil characters would make an exception for him and players were ok with it too, because he was so good at being bad. He even once spent a entire year or more campaign in a party with a Paladin (the GM was one that saw Detect Evil as "intent" not as a Detect Evil Alignment spell, so Dave's character knew to keep his evilness away from the Paladin, or have a scapegoat (oh look a Drow! *Run away*). In the end the Paladin figured it out and they had an epic battle. Hear stories about that game and so wish I could have played in it myself. :)

Dunno. I've always used Microsoft Word to write/develop/edit game stuff. And the art team uses In Design to lay them out and make the PDFs.

What do you think of doing campaign traits that tie in through all 6 volumes as kind of a personal quest for each character? Like faction quests in PFS.
A great idea that really needs to be handled by the GM, not the writer or developer of an adventure, since such long-term personal quests need to be tailored so heavily for specific PCs and we don't know who the PCs are.

Hi, from Mexico City this is my question:
Can i get another combat feat by getting Combat Trick again by choosing it through the Ninja Trick talent?
Gracias!!
That sounds like you're trying to multiclass rogue/ninja... which isn't allowed.
If not, I guess I'm misunderstanding the question.

Hi, from Mexico City too:
If I have a rogue lvl:8 can I take the ninja trick talent to take the combat trick (ninja trick) again?

lvl:2
roguetalent -> combat feat-> one of the list
lvl:4
roguetalent -> ninja trick-> from the list of ninjatrick: combat feat-> one of the list

Speaking of traits and AP, what happen with new/replacement characters who join durring the campaign, most AP traits are about how the PCs got involved in the start of book one; what about someone who join later?

I'm sure you've been asked this question, oh, about a thousand times, but can we assume that slavery is legal everywhere in Golarion unless it's specifically described as being illegal in a given location?
It's probably better to assume it's NOT legal unless otherwise mentioned.

I'd say no, since it's the same trick and rogues can't take it twice, so why should ninja be able to?

They still should pick traits. There's PLENTY of traits to choose from... you don't HAVE to pick a Campaign Trait as one of them.

James, any chance of a Tian Xia region poster map like the one for the Inner Sea? I want one that can be blown up in size with legible writing like my 6'x4' Inner Sea vinyl.
Will the Artifacts & Legends book have all 7 of the Sin weapons? I appreciate all the love the RotRL and Shattered Star will be getting around their release dates.
Have you ever made new dinosaurs that are similar to real life ones, but more fantasy oriented?

When will we see more giants in AP again? I really really enjoyed fortress of the stone giants. Can we have something similiar with frost or fire giants? Maybe fire giants in an active volcano? That would be so awesome.
Shattered Star will have giants.
Actually, Skull & Shackles will too.

Not anytime soon.
We were able to pull of the Inner Sea Map in part due to the fact that we'd spent 4 years focusing on expanding and exploring the region. We had 4 years and thousands of pages of content to pull map tags and locations from. We won't have that for Tian-Xia for a long, long time.
I'll hold back on revealing specific details on what artifacts will be showing up in Artifacts & Legends for now... the book just got announced, and we need to save SOMETHING for the ramp up to its release date in several months, after all!
Yes.

Probably. Having grown up on the north coast with a bunch of surfer friends... I've always kind of regretted never trying out surfing myself. Although had I done so... I'd probably be a surfer today and not answering this question because I'd be out on the waves.
