Damaging / repairing magic items

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

This thread is about the current setup regarding repairing magic items.

For the moment our GM has been looking at the effectiveness of sundering player items and has found it lacking ... Until we explained the rules to him and now expect to loose 50% of all equipment next session. All that aside as a good player I've been looking into the situation of what to do WHEN this happens.

The rulebook states that magical items can be repaired :
Repairing a magic item requires material components equal
to half the cost to create the item, and requires half the time.
The make whole spell can also repair a damaged (or even a
destroyed) magic items—if the caster is high enough level.

Now this seems fair - dont break your s*@$!! But then you read on the mending and make whole divine spells and go ... So ... an orison ... can ... skip ALL expences? Or "make whole" can just fix all problems in one go.

If i was GM'ing i would house rule that repair costs would be added to the component cost for the spell. But it just seems that divine casters can repair everything - for free ... if they want to and have a decent caster level.

It just doesn't seem right... Thoughts and clarifications on the rules would be highly appreciated :)

What you can repair with spells depends of your Caster Level and the CL of the weapon.

+5 Weapons have CL 15 i.e. , if I understand the rules, you need a level 15 spellcaster to fix a broken magic item, and a 30th level spellcaster to fix a destroyed item (using those spells).

This.

Also, I suggest sticking to the rules. If your DM is going to be douche about destroying all your nice things then I would have a serious talk with him.

Try using the "Dad-face" on him, that usually works.
