Hey all,
So I'm working on a homebrew campaign and my characters start in a city. Stylistically I know roughly how I want my city to look, and politically I know how I want it to run. However I'm curious how well using the kingmaker rules for city design would work for building a realistic stand alone city. I'm working it out now but if anyone has already attempted this I'd love some input. Thanks

I like the way Kingmaker handles city building, but keep in mind its mainly citybuilding from a Players point of view. A much better way to build your cities, is to use the rules in the GMG if you have access to it. If not, then I'd use the Kingmaker rules. But IMHO, the GMG does a much better job (for a GM) and has some really cool options.

If you use the kingmaker rules for building cities, you will end up with significantly larger population centers with a much higher density than the standard rules. I don't know how well it would mesh without the rest of the nation either, since farmland keeps your kingdom from going bankrupt. The cities would also likely have more magic for sale to the players than standard. If your not using the mass combat rules, or some variation thereof, I'm not sure I would want the added hassle, and would recomend the Game Master Guide's quicker, easier rules that are less geared for player tinkering and more build for ease of GM use.
