Question about Paizo PFS support...

BAH! I'm having trouble writing this without flaming "the other guys". I'm really really really not looking to start a flame-fest. Really.

I have, however, noticed the "Pathfinder Society Played Here!" signs at cons where there was no similar signage for "the organized play structure the other guys have". Those are cool signs.

Being that I'm looking at your green grass, I'm wondering what other support Paizo does for players / DMs / cons. I'd rather not start talking about what the other guys DON'T do, as I'm already aware and (again), I'd rather not start a flame thread.

Is there something like a player/DM reward system? Maps? Players writing mods? Con support? The pregens and quickstart I saw at one con looked really slick - is that the norm for PFS?

Appreciate it if you could accommodate. If not, I completely understand.

All questions can be answered here, or by reading the PFS Guide. If you need any further questions answered, don't hesitate to post something. :D

downloading now, thanks! Wouldn't of expected it to talk about con support or things like that.

Context: At Gencon 2008 I DM'ed for the "other guys," (four slots) and at Gencon 2009 I GM'ed for Paizo (eight slots). I also played and judged the other guy's previous campaign (let's call it non-deceased grey bird), and have played many slots of both PFS and the other guy's current offering (non-deceased lands we can't remember). :P

Organizationally, PFS blows away the other guys. Requests for numbers don't disappear into black holes, etc.

Modules, rather than being free, must be purchased for $4 each. Organizers can make hardcopies for a particular show, but cannot share the PDFs, and should probably collect the hard copies at the end of the show.

GM/judge prize support at cons is similiar, though Paizo does tend to give materials relevant to the content at the show. There is (as of yet) no other reward system in place for PFS GMs, unlike the other guys. I don't really care, but the difference is there.

The PFS campaign rules are much like the rules for the other guy's last campaign, with some of the cruft (TUs) scraped away.

Overall, I much prefer PFS play. I feel the mods, though not free, are of generally higher quality. Things are more organized, the rules are more thorough and logical, etc. Josh also makes himself much more available than anyone with the other guys ever did (at least in my experience).

This was very helpful. Thank you both.
