Lost on Score

Pathfinder Society

I am lost on the ability Score as it refers to the stats we have as well as spells. I looked at the Abilities and Spellcasting thing, but still am lost. How does it affect the six stats and the various things it works on. I am creating my character and trying to write down his base stuff.

Ok, I do not understand this question...

Are you asking how does Ability scores affect spellcasting?

Well I am trying to create an character or two. I needed to first know how the different stats affect each value they represent. How str. affect attack, dex affect armor and general speed, how intellect affects the various skills you learn or how many you get? I know wis. and cha. affects several spells and intellect.

I was creating two characters. One I was trying to recreate my fighter which was using an pregenerated stuff, and had level up. I hadn't had a chance to create him to my likings or figure out how to get the book. The second character I am trying to create is an sorcerer. I am sorry if this confuses you.

hi idsuck. Is this your first Pathfinder character? If you don't have the Pathfinder rule book, you can find all the rules on the PRD, including an overview of all the abilities and how the associated modifier for each affects the rest of a character's stats.

As an overview:

Spoiler:

* your STR modifier will add to (or detract from) your melee attacks, weapon damage, Strength-based skills, and carrying capacity.

* DEX modifiers affect AC, Reflex saves, Initiative, ranged attacks, and Dexterity based skills.

* CON affects hit points and Fortitude saves.

* INT grants you additional skill points per level, spell DCs and bonus spells for Int-based casters, and Intelligence-based skills.

* WIS affects Will saves and Wisdom-based skills, as well as bonus spells and DCs for classes like the Cleric and Druid.

* CHA modifiers impact spellcasting and some class abilities for Bards, Paladins, and Sorcerers, and affect Charisma-based skills.

Yeah. I just was a tad lost on where to look for them. I just hope to find the right places. I don't have the book and am using the one on this site to try and help me. Plus what levels up when a character levels up?

It depends what class they are and what level they are progressing to. Every odd level, all PCs get a new feat. At every level, a PC gains a number of skill points determined by their class + INT modifier (plus humans get a bonus point). They also get another HD of hit points based on their class. Every 4th level (4, 8, 12, 16, 20), a PC gains +1 to one ability score. Then every class provides different class features and abilities at each level.

okay thanks.

Concerning HD and leveling up, if I was a bard with a HD of 8, would I roll an 8 sided dice or just add 8 more hit points?

1st level you gain your full hit die + con bonus + favored class (if you choose it).

Each level afterward you get 1/2 your hit die + 1 + con bonus + favored class (if you choose it). So for a Bard (d8), you'd get a fixed 5 points per level plus any bonuses. So an 8th level bard would have a base of 8+(7*5) = 43 hit points before any bonuses.

And per page 16 of the Guide to Organized Play...

Quote:
Step 8: Hit Points Hit points and the way you gain them as you level function differently in Pathfinder Society Organized Play. Table 4–1 shows Hit Dice per class, hit points at first level, and hit points gained each level.

The table is on page 14, but it's always half the HD plus 1 after 1st level.

Thanks for the help. I just started playing last weekend and had a blast with Doug and Kyle.

Just to make sure all characters start at 1st level, so it'll be a while before you are level 8 :)

Welcome to the fun!
