My paladin is Abadarian, regretfully enough. But, my alpha APG playtest oracle of Iomedae came close to taking that feat.

I'm playing a paladin in SdF's Kingmaker PbP here on the Paizo boards! He's a paladin of Erastil.

Male Tiefling Guide, Level 1

Paladins FTW!

I'm really looking forward to getting started, once everyone has their characters smoothed out. I think that, as interactions go, Rhys will keep to himself unless he's spoken to first. If somebody strikes up a conversation with him, he'll be a little distant, but not rudely so. Very polite. If they keep staring at him, it might provoke a few curious looks (I'm looking at you, Nichelle XD).

All in all though, the group seems very open-minded, so it probably won't take him TOO long for him to drop his guard enough to unmask himself. I think he may feel comfortable enough in Bloodcove--and the Mwangi Expanse in general--to let his tail hang free.

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

I wonder how hard it is to set up a desalinator?

Male Human Paladin, 6

Why, Me'mori...why ever would we need ANYTHING like that? It's not like the ship will ever...CRASH and its passengers thrown into a shipwrecked, life-or-death, survivalist situation on a savage island or anything. That would just be...SILLY. The stuff of FANTASY. You should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking that. >_>

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

Actually I was thinking of the idea as an excuse to be able to bathe while on the ship. As friendly as 'Kel might be, she might balk at daily asking the wizard to "give her a thorough cleaning"

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Blackleaf would most likely volunteer to help her with that.

Male Human Paladin, 6

1: Good point.

2: Probably a quick way to earn a red weal on his cheek. XD

EDIT: 3: Though, if she could bathe in the dark, Rhys could provide her with privacy vis a vis his demonic heritage...

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

On the upside, I just realized that she can make her own soap. Hmm.. Now all she has to do is filch a bit of red pepper and a little cinnamon...

ssl wrote:

*facepalm* While her imagination would most certainly run away with her, let's not go dragging my girl through the gutter, hm?

Male Human Paladin, 6

That sounds like some good-smellin' soap...or a potent batch of mace. XD

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

Depends on what point in the preparation process you catch it. =D

----------The Crew----------
Alizandru Kovack, captain of the Jenivere. A pleasant Chelish man whose family has saild from Manimar to Eledar for generations. He maintains strict discipline among his crew.

Alton Devers, first mate of the Jenivere, friendly to all. Seems to chafe under the strict rule of Captain Kovack.

Rambar Terillo, a taciturn man from Senghor. He has served as Ships Cook on many a vessel though his skills seem to be limited to watery soups.

----------The Passengers----------
Aerys Mavato, a severe half-elven woman who boarded in Port Peril. Spends most of her time in the bunk purposefully avoiding fraternization with the crew or others.

Gelik Aberwhinge, a sharp dressed gnome who boarded in Magnimar as well. Spends most of his time writing in the ships' common areas. He frequently tells long-winded stories and boasts of past journeys if allowed.

Ieana, a bookish Varisian scholar who tends to keep to herself. She is traveling to Sargava to view the ancient ruins. Rumor on the ship alternately suggest she is the true ship's owner, a Chelish agent, or the Captain's secret lover. The farther the ship travels the more withdrawn she becomes.

Ishirou, cruff human of Tian heritage, Ishirou boarded at Bloodcove and is eager to reach Sargava. He is aloof and gives the impression of one who has had a hard life, but finds himself directionless.

Jask Derindi, a prisoner loaded aboard in Corentyn. Captain kovack sees to his needs, and insists the prisoner be left alone, sequestered in the ship's brig.

Sasha Nevah, this red-haired girl boarded at Ilizmagorti. Since leaving the island she has become boisterous and optimistic about the journey..

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

Nichelle is going to take to Sasha, if just for similarity, since she's the only girl aboard that seems accessible. She's also going to try to befriend the ship's cook so she can determine through trial(and error) how well alchemy meshes with cooking.

..that is, assuming that it is possible. *Looks to Bosun for confirmation*

*thumbs up*

Setting up vague interactions with the NPC's at this point is fine. The beginning of the adventure will take place during a ships dinner hosted by the Captain. All passengers except the prisoner will be present.

Male Human Paladin, 6

Rhys, as stated before, generally keeps to himself, and is noticeably absent at dinner, taking all his meals either in a shadowy spot on deck in the evenings or, more often, in his quarters. His few words DO commend Captain Kovack on his strict discipline, and others may have heard him remark to himself that while the food is bland and watery, he HAS eaten worse.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

humm may have to change a bit with the strict discipline thing, or maybe Blackleaf spent alot of time in the brig. Blackleaf tends to see things more as guide lines then rules :)

Maybe he joined the crew later , kinda been ship hoping and all that as well he tends to be more rough and tumble.

Any thoughts on that?

Male Human Paladin, 6

Well, is Blackleaf (noooo!) a member of the crew specifically, or just a passenger? I don't have it open in front of me right now, but I seem to recall the Serpent Skull Player's Guide saying that Cap'n Kovacks is courteous and affable to the passengers, but runs his crew ship-shape and neat as a pin. If he's a member of the crew itself, he may very well take the Alton Devers route and CHAFE UNDER THE YOKE OF OPPRESSION RAAAARGH VICTORY TO THE PROLETARIAT.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

he had the crew trait, I missed the part in the PG about the captain, need to go reread that. While blackleaf is soulsearching he was inspired by REH quite a bit.

He works hard, fights hard and plays hard. Fighting, drinking and wrenching seem to be his top goals in life as far as anyone who has spent time with him can tell.

I may have to rework his traits a bit.

Male Human Paladin, 6

REH? What does that stand for?

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Robert E. Howard.

Male Human Paladin, 6

Oooh. That explains a ton, actually. So he's kind of an amoral, Conanesque 'mighty thews' type, then. Gotcha. Yeah, that would definitely be the kind of character to chafe under authority. XD

Did not Conan (movie) labor under the yoke of servitude for the majority of his young adult life?

Male Human Paladin, 6

Yeah, pushing on that wheel of pain thinger. I watched that last week, actually. Not a bad movie.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

REH's Conan and the one from the movie do not have much in common at all, the movie Conan was a dumb wuss next to REH's Conan to be honest.

They share a name and nothing else. Conan helped Sack a city at 15 and was no mans slave.

But yep that is more or less what I went for with Blackleaf.

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

Well, sure the book was always cooler... :p

You know, I don't recall seeing that wheel thing attached to anything in particular. Was it just me?

Male Human Paladin, 6

You're right. I think the wheel was just THERE to toughen up the dudes pushing it. And to show off Ahnuld's sweaty gleaming manbody.

It's also wise to point out that Howard's Conan, while liberally badass, wasn't das uberman, and certainly wasn't infallible. One of the things I liked was that, in the throes of drink and excess, he could overestimate himself and make mistakes. It made him human despite his prodigious strength and keen mind.

I wish I had an inspiration in mind for Rhys. But really...he's some kind of weird larva-spawn of Aragorn, Robin Hood, Vampire Hunter D and Abraham Van Helsing.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

The REH stuff had not been in print since like the 30's till a few years ago. They started doing collections. He never wrote a book, all his stuff was short stores but well worth picking up if ya ask me.

Man could write tolkien under a table.

Yep he was tough as nails but not infallible. He did alot of dumb things, he had flaws and was a more real character for it if ya ask me.

I am hoping the new movie drawls more from REH's Conan then just the look.

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

Meanwhile Nichelle's character was drawn from Ty Lee of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Tootsie from Las Lindas

Or, for literary examples, a mixture of Vin from the Mistborn trilogy, and Molly from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files

Male Human Paladin, 6

Truth be told, while I've read a lot of Robert E. Howard and a lot of J.R.R. Tolkien, I've never been a huge fan of either of them. This isn't to say either of them were bad writers--far from it--but it always seemed to me that Howard always spent an unseemly amount of time describing Conan in each story to the point that I got the feeling that either Conan was some kind of wish-fulfillment fantasy for him (that Conan WAS Howard in Howard's own mind) or that Howard had some kind of weird fascination with the Cimmerian that bordered on the unhealthy. As with Tolkien, I just thought he was too wordy and dry. This...something very strange coming from somebody who really enjoys Howard Phillips Lovecraft.

In the end, it's really just a matter of taste. There's a reason both of them were and are phenomenally popular.

EDIT: Me'mori, is it sad that I have all three seasons of Avatar recorded on my DVR and already have Las Lindas bookmarked? :P

As for The Dresden Files, I never could really get into that series, but conversely, I absolutely LOVED Jim Butcher's "Codex Alera". I just finished the final book last week. Have you ever read it?

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Wow, that comic is fur-tastic...

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

*dryly raises an eyebrow at SdF* Quite.

Oddly enough, I couldn't get into Codex Alera, but then again, my latest series besides the 501st and related trooper novels, were LKH and MaryJanice Davidson.

Do yourself a favor and avoid "The Last Airbender" like an incurable plague. I had to re-watch the series to get the horror out of my head. To think I actually paid to see it.. *hangs head* Looking forward to the new one, though.

Hmm.. if you read Las Lindas, Do you follow any artists?

Male Human Paladin, 6

See, I saw the Last Airbender already...and while it was a terrible, TERRIBLE movie, I saw some good parts in it. For example, I thought that the kid who played Aang did a decent job, considering it was literally the first thing he's ever done EVER EVAR. Though I DID see it in 3D, though, so it made the whole thing look like a hobo dry-heaved through his beard all over the silver screen.

By 501st, do you mean the 501st Stormtrooper battalion? Because if you do, that's awesome. I haven't read any literature on them, but I've wanted to. I saw Death Trooper at the bookstore the other day, but I passed it over in favor of First Lord's Fury. I think we're going to disagree over books on other subjects, though, because I'm FEROCIOUSLY anti-vampire. -laughs- I fondly miss the days when vampires where the masters of evil, when they were the MONSTERS, or at the very best, the misunderstood bloodsuckers who nevertheless needed to be slain by the righteous (which may be why I'm a rabid Castlevania fanboy--WHAT IS A MAN?! A miserable little pile of secrets!). I'm not a big fan of the new direction that vampires have taken of late, when they're really just one of us, trying to fit in, just oversexed teenagers who just want to BE NORMAL!

And by artists...on what subjects do you mean? If you mean webcomics in general, I really enjoy "Mookie" Terracciano of "Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire", Chris Hastings of "The Adventures of Dr. McNinja" and 'Chu', the artist of "Slightly Damned".

EDIT: I may be anti-vampire, but I'm pro-werewolf. THERE, I SAID IT.

My BookmarksBar reads like this;
PFSRD, Paizo Boards, Penny Arcade, PvP, Control+Alt+Delete, Three Panel Soul, Pictures for Sad Children, Dueling Analogs, Order of the Stick, Erfworld, Guilded Age, Extralife, xkcd, Dr. McNinja, reddit, Oglaf, Cracked, and MMO-champion

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

8% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a comparison of it with "Battlefield Earth". They tried.. Yue was good, but no Kiyoshi warriors, despite being on the island, the actor playing Iroh tried, but the script didn't let him. Azula looked promising, but not enough screen time. The rest you could burn.

Yup, that 501st. It started with the "Republic Commando" game for XBOX, and I started looking for any stormtrooper novels I could find, since I've ever been a fan of the supporting cast. Look for the "True Colors" series.

Eh, I read (and write) for the stories. LKH's premise (at the outset) was unique enough that I decided to follow it. She's written herself into a corner lately though. MaryJanice Davidson's books actually have me laughing so hard at some parts that I have to stop reading because of the tears of laughter in my eyes, at least once a book. I have not read many books that can make me do that.

Vampires don't sparkle. But under closer examination, the "Total Evil" bit has to make way for the more subtle variations.

As for Castlevania? I have friends that are HUGE gamers, so I've seen it, and if I haven't seen it, I've played it. Haven't seen much werewolf literature though.. Patricia Briggs has some, Carrie Vaughn has a couple, but I have not run across much.

What I'm wondering about is the next pop-culture trend. Vampires came and went (goth subculture?), and I recall a piece on the news about werewolves, so I'm wondering if constructs are going to enjoy their time in the sun, or will it rotate back to the fae?

ThreePanelSoul is on my bar as well (ever since Mac Hall), Questionable Content, and MegaTokyo (Ph34r m4 n33d f3r B33r!). DMFA is on there as well. The rest I just wander to and fro from (Better Days, Count your sheep, LFG, VGcats, and Penny Arcade on occasion). The only MMO I play is S4 League, having kicked my WoW habit a year ago.

Male Human Paladin, 6

My Bookmark bar is...considerably longer than all that. I tried to play S4 League awhile back, but my computer doesn't seem to like it very much. I still play WoW a bit, but not very much, only a couple hours a week.

I read MegaTokyo back in high school, and really enjoyed it until Largo quit the team. When Piro was given full creative control, it got very shojo very quickly, and went downhill for me. About two years ago I took it off my bar and never looked back. Same for VGCats. Ramsoomair just hit a wall where he stopped updating, and when he does, they're just not funny anymore. Maybe real life caught up with him. I read Jay Naylor's Better Days until it finished, and I have his new project, Original Life, on my bar. I really enjoy his work until he gets political (because he gets heavy-handed when he does), but as long as he avoids politics he's awesome. And Penny Arcade? EVERYBODY loves Penny Arcade. :D

Some of the gems on my bar include Darths and Droids--a comic going through six Star Wars movies as if they were a tabletop roleplaying game from the point of view of the players at the table. Dead Winter, Vattu (from the creator of Rice Boy and Order of Tales, both excellent), Goblins: Life Through Their Eyes, Twokinds, Dawn of Time, The Legend of Neil, Masked Manor and Blip. Those are by no means all of them, but I didn't want to ramble on too long. XD

So what other kinds of books and video games do you guys enjoy? I'm a fan of Stephen King's Dark Tower series and the Belgariad by David Eddings as far as literature goes, and for video games, my current love is Knights of the Old Republic 2, when I can get it to run on my compy. XD

Male Human Paladin, 6

Scipion del Ferro and Me'mori played in a little game with me before known as "Terra Mortalis", a d20 Future module that took place as a frozen ship on a thousand-year journey made its way back towards the (perhaps) doomed earth. While we played that game, I exercised my then-rusty drawing skills and began doodling the crewmen and women of the UNSC Gilgamesh.

Well, I'll be the first person to say I'm not that great of an artist. XD

But in any case, I can't sleep. So I started working on a quick sketch of what Rhys might look like unmasked. It's not much--I belted it out in only fifteen minutes, and I'm kinda tired--but I still feel it's better than anything I did while we were playing Terra Mortalis, since I've been doodling in the meantime.

You can view the "devilishly" handsome (pun intended!) Rhys Forgarson here.

I decided to throw on the cheek scar as a memento of the accident that claimed his father's life, and if you can't tell, that blurb in the corner is supposed to be his hand. I figure he might have sharpened nails that might be vestigial claws or something. Let me know what you think!

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

s'what I get for remembering characters more than the players. I thought you two were familiar!

Good work on Rhys, btw.

Male Human Paladin, 6

Pfft. Don't remember me. But you do remember Alec, the scrawny, wrench-wieldin' sex-macheen? XD

Okay. He was anything but.

But I digress. Thank you. :D

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

I try not to associate characters with their players. It hinders the writing when I can see through the scene, if you know what I mean. If all I can see are the characters, then it makes writing them well as easy as describing what you see someone else doing, because they pretty much are. As well as Alec was written, I'm sure you know.

Male Human Paladin, 6

Augh! Now I've broken the fourth wall! ALL THE SECRETS ARE SPILLING OUT!

Naw, I get what you mean. I imagine it's a lot easier for some people to get how a character can think if they don't know how the brain behind it thinks. I mean...you don't have to wonder if you're missing something that the other person MEANT to put in, but didn't.

Bleh. I don't know what I'm trying to get across. Maybe I should just pack it in and go to bed. XD

Pack it in? I just got up! I have to drive my daughter and her family to the airport this morning. I'm in the US Pacific time zone. Great discussion on the thread here! I'll have to catch up when I get the chance later on...

Male Human Paladin, 6

I'm up browsing the forums, listening to smooth jazz, doodling, and READING. I'm multitasking all while being tired. I should be asleep, and I'm sitting pretty at US Mountain Standard. :P

Male Human Paladin, 6

-sigh- Yup. More art. This is what happens when I get excited for a game mixed with rampant insomnia.

Another quickie fifteen-minute sketch. This one looks rougher because there was more area to cover, since it's a full-body doodle--I wanted to draw his tail. This was meant to be a pic of Rhys sneaking around a corner, but really, it looks more like Rhys is getting ready to attack in one of those turn-based RPGs from the 16-bit era. XD

Anyway, 16-bit attacking Rhys can be seen here.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think. I'm off to bed. See you folks tomorrow!

I do believe I will launch the offical PBP thread some time today. So keep your eyes peeled.

Male Human Strong Hero 2

Also, sniffle for forgetting us.

Male Human Cleric 1

I was aghast for missing what seemed to be fifty posts... and then realized they didn't happen when I was away during the day, they happened after I had come back and fallen asleep.

Without going back and picking piecemeal from each and every post, I'll say we've all got a good deal in common. I'm just reading more pretentious things than you guys are.

My bookmark bar: My WoW Guild, 4chan, Gmail, MMO-Champion, Obsidian Portal, Paizo, Mangastream, Nedroid, this PBP, Facebook.

Video games... I play WoW as the main tank of my guild and occasionally whatever pops up. I'm a big fan of the console RPG genre, but nothing really ever pops into my view anymore, so I play very little in that regard.

I'd like to say I'm not... but I actually am. I bought it for -25% off and it's third in line after Portnoy's Complaint and Will You Please Be Quiet, Please?.

Male Human Paladin, 6

I'll withhold my furious uvula punch merely because I'm probably the WORST person to ever discuss philosophy. XD I read "Also sprach Zarathustra" a few years back and just thought Nietzsche was sort of gladhanding himself.

Although, funny story--one of the guys I currently know DID remark that he wanted to buy that book, but NOT to read. Only to leaf through in coffee shops to make him look smarter and more learned. XD

But again, I'm far too opinionated to be a good philosopher. So in the end maybe I'm just entirely too plebeian to enjoy it.
