I'm not restarting the discussion about whether or not it was a bad idea to have the summoner's eidolon disappear when the summoner is put to sleep. I think it is an interesting bit of flavor for the class, even if it is a bit limiting. I'm just wondering if anyone else agrees with my observation that elves and half-elves are suddenly prime candidates for summoner characters since they are immune to magical sleep. They get to ignore an entire category of conditions that can remove other summoners from a fight or even kill them if they fall asleep while riding a flying eidolon.
The real advantage is reserved for elves in campaigns where the GM uses the rule that elves don't sleep (I'm assuming that this doesn't apply to half-elves). While other summoners lose their eidolon when they're resting elves don't and can have it guard them while they're meditating. Theroetically, an elf could keep his eidolon with him perminantly while other races have to at least dismiss it once a day.
To me, that seems like a pretty big advanage, even if the other racial bonuses that elves get aren't ideal for summoners. I'm not sure if I like that because my players generally don't use elves, or if I should dislike this because most summoners may end up being elves and half-elves.

Yes, I completely agree with everything you said.
Especially in worlds where elves meditate instead of sleep (one of my groups play this way), Elves are the best way to go for Summoners. The only downside for elves that may make half-elves better is the fact that they rely on high Charisma, an attribute that Elves don't provide.

Half-Elves are the best Summoners, far and away. The Half-Elven Favored Class bonus for Summoner is +1/4 evolution point. In other words, every 4 levels, a Half-Elven Summoner's Eidolon gets an extra evolution point, and don't forget it can share those back to the Summoner via Aspect and Greater Aspect.

Oh wow, I didn't even know about that one, that's really good. And I had been thinking the human Favored Class bonus where they could give their Eidolon +1 hp or +1 skill points was good XD

I think it is good. In a game that only goes to 12 levels Half-Elves if they max it out are only getting 3 extra evolution points all told as opposed to 12 skill points that could be added to the Eidolon base.

Using the "Skilled" evolution, you can take 8 skill points for each evo point (up to 1 time/skill). If you use 3 points, it's 24 skill ranks in 3 different skills that don't count against max skill ranks cap.
It can seem op, but i still think the "sleepy nerf" as worst ;p
