I've contacted our book distributor to have them poke Amazon and see what's up.
What it means is they got enough reports from the same customers about the same problem with an item (any item). So in order to try and prevent the problem from affecting other customers, they're pulling the item from sale directly from Amazon while they review all the inventory trying to find if one or two people just got extremely unlucky or if there's a more widespread problem. So the item gets put 'under review' instead of being marked as unavailable, not for sale or simply out.
It's their attempt at trying to keep their customers informed that something is going on, without being too specific.
I used to work there, so I know the process used to make this happen.

So does that imply they have received binding complaints for this book like they did for the Core Book?
I haven't heard any such complaints here on these boards ...

My understanding is that it could be any number of things, from them getting complaints that they've been sending the wrong product out, to issues with how they're packing it... and I'm pretty confident that neither you nor I will never know the answer.
(I don't recall having heard of anybody having issues with the binding.)

You are correct sir. It could be literally any problem thats duplicated by the same customer. In my experience, it was almost always wrong item shipped out or damage in the same manner. A few times it was a printing error, but this was more rare.

Odd. My girlfriend ordered the GMG for me from amazon last week.*
I think Amazon might need to be a little more selective about what it takes to put an item "under review." It seems like it woudl be very easy for a malicious party to take advantage of the current system.
* She has been thoroughly chastised** -- hard copy RPGs must come from either the FLGS or straight from the company. If I'm going to pay a distributor/retailer, they'd better actually be adding value...
** As if I'd actually chastise a gf who buys me RPG books...but I did mention it. :D

There's a lot more to it, trust me. Once it happens, it makes a lot of people *have to jump* to deal with it.
