So, in pretty much across all media in which the fantasy genre manifests itself (yeah, I just used passive voice, what of it?), human wizards seem to possess unusually extended lifespans. While in some settings or tales this is thoroughly explained, it isn't always.
Does anybody have any house rules regarding the unusual aging rates of human wizards? I'm thinking that maybe lifespan doubles at 10th level, triples at 15th level, and then quadruples at 20th level. Or maybe even a system of doubling (effectively 2x, 4x, 8x, etc.)?
Also, opinions on this strange, often unexplained, phenomenon are also encouraged/appreciated.

There are many options!
When you can cast clone, do so immediately and preserve it. While you can't clone a creature that has died of old age, I'm pretty sure you can clone it while it's still young and keep the clone for it to pass to upon dying of old age.
Or alternatively, use limited wish to add years to your life or maybe wish to stop yourself from ageing altogether.
That, or become a lich or bind your soul into a construct body.

It doesn't always hold that way. For every wizard that holds back the clock, there are a dozen which age just like the rest of us... or faster.
