Had a fabulous lunch at The Cheesecake Factory for my wife's birthday meal.
Mojito and Avocado Eggrolls for starters
Bang-Bang Chicken and Shrimp with angel-hair pasta instead of rice for the main course
and
Ultimate Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake with a cup of coffee for dessert
I wiped them out. All of them.

Let's see...
There was a nice tribute to an orchestra member who died in a wreck during the nasty winter weather we had recently. We took the stage, it was darkened, and a lone spot shone on her empty chair while two bagpipers played "Amazing Grace" from backstage. The lights came back up slowly, the conductor walked on, and we proceeded. Her teacher took her part (2nd oboe) for the concert, another nice tribute.
Started out with Rossini's La Gazza Ladra overture, which was fun and much tougher than it sounds. The puffin's POV was that it needed more pep out of the starting gate, but it picked up and went well. I played flute since the juicy picc part went to the group's steady player (as it should be).
Then we did Hohvaness' Loon Lake Symphony. I played picc since the juicy flute part went to the group's steady player (aisb). However, 30 or so bars of solo picc birdcalls (thrush and loon, with flutter tonguing) seemed to be the big hit of the concert. Mystified me, but whatever.
Then we closed with Schumann's final violin concerto, written while he was insane and suppressed by Clara because it's kinda crap. Our soloist, former first desk with St. Louis Symphony, was wonderful. The piece was odd, but better than I could have written, even in brief lucid moments.

That sounds fantastic, Treppa. Congratulations.

I actually baked a Red Velvet Cake from scratch this weekend. Had to give most of it away as to not spoil my diet. But it was awesome. Everyone loved it.

Isn't it just a chocolate cake with red food coloring, or is it something different? I'd never heard of it until I came south to St. Louis.

It is actually a buttermilk cake with a little bit of chocolate, dyed red traditionally served with cream cheese frosting. According to epicurious and that southern chick on the food network if it is actually a full chocolate cake then it is made wrong.

How was everyone’s weekend?
I did end up doing the family brunch at the cafe (as opposed to the French restaurant or MacDonalds) – thanks to those who suggested what I already really knew. Good brunch, the only problem was parking (we all ended up parking waaaay down the street ... in front of the French restaurant which seemed to be having a slow morning ...)
My sister has a new girlfriend ... and met her of all places at Science Fiction Speed Dating! Who knew there was such a thing? Apparently dressing up as a character from Star Trek is only optional ...

Sorry, but I'll share as much of the trip as I can along the way. Not sure how good internet connectivity will be over there. I've signed up for international calling and data on my iPhone, but that will be for limited use.
I'm looking forward to seeing some of the sites my wife frequented before we met. And, of course, the geek in me is really looking forward to seeing such an old and storied city.

Ah! Not a happy DM!
I created a dangerous situation for a character, and went a...step too far, I think. so...they were exactly at their death hit points...and I gave them until the end of the round to get healed instead of dying outright.
I just felt...the human bane bolt was a bit too far...
Not happy with letting him live...but didn't think it was fair to kill him that way either.
bah.

Sooooo worn out!
Kid's Birthday Party yesterday with 40 screaming kids and a helluva lot of mess done wore me out, but then ste stupid girl at work decides to call in sick this morning and so I gotta work back another 3 and a half hours. :/
Good to see you again, Flash. Sorry about the work troubles. I hope the birthday party was a success, at least. We've got one of those coming up at the end of the month...a pool party, no less. Yay.

I believe from what Mel tells me the Party was a success. First one of the year so far for Caitlin's new School, so we've set the tone for those to come apparently. :)
Are both your girls in the same class and/or have the same friends, or will there be double the kids there?

Good to know you're the trend setter. Parties for the girls' friends have been pretty low-key. I don't think anyone else has done a pool party this year.
They're in the same grade, but we're effectively inviting all of 3rd grade...probably about 60 kids invited...not sure how many of those will attend.

Yeah, we invited Caitlin's whole Class, since it's Kindergarten and she's only had a few weeks to get to know anyone, thinking that we might get half turn up. Little did we know that all but 2 kids would come. :/
At least Seth only had 3 friends come, but then again he only invited half a dozen from his daycare.

My eldest wants to have a Scoobie Doo party, we have some time, its in August... My wife is thinking of limiting the number of school friends to her age so that's 7 friends from school (we will have a lot of family and other friends at the party though). I think she should be allowed to have more friends, but thats a discussion I am not going to be able sway Mrs 8th Dwarf on as she does most of the Party prep...

It's hit or miss, in my experience. When we were in Italy, we found that some cities provided free WiFi if you were near the main piazzas and such; so if that's where you were, you were golden. If that's not where you were, it could be rough - the free WiFi Starbucks just doesn't exist. We also had decent luck with most of our hotels, though.

Well our first session of Serpent Skull went well. We added basically 3 new players last night so I wasn't sure what the dynamic would be, but so far so good. I am looking forward to our next session.
EDIT: nekkid new group action for TotP.
