Oh yeah, I started D&D about '80 or '81.

Wow the first time I played we had just bought this Dragon Issue 45: January 1981. So I guess I have been playing longer then I thought.
All I remember is that this guy in my class (grade school) was talking to me in the caferia before school and telling me about this game, Dungeons and Dragons. He let me be a guy with a sword in a dungeon (making it up as he went) and using the timer on his new fangled digital stop watch to take the place of dice.

Now THAT is creative.

Exactly! It's a wall many of us have beaten our head against - one that regenerates from all the troll blood coursing through it's mineral veins.

Yeah...I know. :(

I just used to manage fast food (Fazoli's) and I know what you can and cannot require of employees. :(

Actually I enjoyed your exchange. It got a little heated, but it seems to have ended peaceably. It's also interesting that your restaurant chain isn't one that I can find easily in NY, if at all.

It is an Italian fast food chain started in Lexington KY (of all places) by a Japanese guy. :P I even worked and one night the very first restaurant (a converted gas station) and an extended period of time in the first franchise in my hometown: Ashland, KY.

Wow. No Fazoli's listings in New York. They mustn't like Real Italian (...real fast) in New York. :P

That list is wrong. It doesn't list any Michigan locations and I know of at least two on account of having eaten in them. I wish we had one in the town I live in. Those breadsticks are awesome. :)

I actually miss Fazoli's. There used to be one in Rochester for all of about 2 years. It was cheap and had decent pasta.

BTW, since we're talking about how we started gaming: I started as a kid back in '87-ish when my cousin gave us his battered Red Box since he had moved on to AD&D. We loved our Red Box.

Maybe I will get the opportunity to cook ziti for you (FAWTL) guys and gals some time.

You know what is sad? I went to the locator page:

Yes.

They now have pizza baked spaghetti (with pepperoni) in addition to the traditional baked spaghetti.

They even have a pizza baked spaghetti with BACON!

Ah... the memories. I first learned of D&D at a friend's birthday party. I remember then going out and getting Basic Set (Red) at the store soon after. I must've been all of 10½ way back in '83. I recall making characters with my younger brother and running him through Isle of Dread. Since we didn't really know any other gamers, he was by himself.

...

It didn't end well for him.

I wonder if that's why he dropped the hobby soon after...

Well, Carl and Jeremy continued their plans for conquest of the local Laser Tag, despite the setback of Jason having learned of their intentions. Meanwhile, Todd and Andrew planned a get together to homebrew some beer, never realizing it was all part of their wives' master plan to get rid of them for a few hours so they could have time to plan Todd's secret birthday party. And, across town, Scott was worried that his pet penguin would....No, wait! That's my soap opera.

RPG Superstar 2012

Hi all. I will have to catch up on all the missed posts later. Work has been busy, plus I have a writing deadline to meet at the end of the month not to mention my Superstar entry), so I haven't been able to get on the boards much.

Just as a further indicator of how much of a f'ed up roller coaster 2010 has been:

good news:
I got word from my manager that a full-time job has opened up, and after the one week internal posting, it goes live for everyone and I've got a good shot at it. It would mean a move to Charlotte, and some logistics for my son who would like to finish up his junior and senior years where we reside now. Oh yeah, if you're reading this Gary, this doesn't diminish my interest in working for Paizo. :)

bad stuff:
Tomorrow is my mom's birthday, and I'm taking it harder than I thought I would. Losing her and (at least, mentally) my grandmother this year has sucked. Then, earlier today, my wife called to let me know my daughter did something I never would have thought she'd do. My guess is that she's been very depressed and anxious lately. She even asked extensively about depression, and I completely missed the warning signs. I feel like I've let her down as her dad.

Anyway, sorry I've been away. I'll try to catch up over the weekend.
