Good morning all - Today I have jury duty. It's my first time.

Oooohhh....Jury Duty Virgin!

Seriously though, I've never found it to be a big deal. However, if it's anything like here in Philly, bring something to read. Maybe a little paperback.

Thanks for the tip - I've got my copy of Prince of Wolves all ready to go.
No problem. And remember, if they ask you whether you have any problems serving on a jury, just jump up and yell "GUILTY! GUILTY! GUILTY!". They love that.
Or just answer questions that are asked of others and how you really want to do this and cane stay up all hours of the night waiting for serving, cause it is your civic duty. You will either be put in charge or more likely then not sent home in the first cuts.

I've had jury duty twice, and enjoyed it both times.

The first time I actually got selected for a jury. We heard a prostitution case. It was actually quite interesting to see the process in action.

The second time, just a few weeks ago, we got to the courtroom and none of the defendants wanted to play. They all made deals or postponed for some reason or other. So, the judge talked to us about the way things work on his side of everything. He did that for 30-40 minutes and sent us on our way.

Very educational experiences both times. I can't say I look forward to my next time to go, but I don't dread it like some people seem to.

+1 to that. I've never served, but I was selected for a jury the third time I was called. They settled as we arrived in the courtroom.

I would love to be a juror for a living. I don't know why people view it as such a horrible thing.

Never again!!!

You know how many jobs in the Holland area there are that don't require experience and are close enough that you could realistically get there without a driver's license, or at least carpool there without making your coworkers hate you too much? Depressingly few.

So the guilt trip is the secret...

I really enjoyed jury duty (murder & associated charges), but found it very scary. Though I was satisfied with the verdict in the end, I think if I were on trial, I'd ask for a bench verdict. I kind of aggravated the other jurors by asking that every count be proved in a way that I couldn't explain within reason, but, OTOH, several thanked me once we got out of the courtroom. And learning the process was fascinating. Also, be sure to hire a GOOD lawyer if you're ever on trial.

Eek!

My schedule is too erratic right now to reliably take on anything else. Maybe next semester?

Now exactly what would you run?
I'd be tempted to run my Moldvaian World of Law vs Chaos vs the Great Balance, if I thought folks would be okay with the old basic/expert rules.

There are some things I had to leave behind. Like THAC0.

I fear for the poor bastard if I ever get called for jury duty. Too much time spent reading mysteries my entire life and being related to too many cops.

Of course, the latter may be the reason I never get called... ;)

I got asked to do it once. Personally, I wasn't interested. However, I replied and said I would love to do it as long as they comply with the ADA (American with Disabilities Act)to assist me in participating.

Strangely, I never heard back from them. ;-)

For some, it would be the sequestering, the pay, and the gag order.

One of the reasons I hate Harry Potter so much is because they re-popularized the unpopular flavors of jelly beans- snot, garbage, etc. And yet people bought them by the BOATLOAD.

I like HALO, The original game. After that, it went down the tubes. 10 hours story for 50-60 bucks? No thank you. Gimme Fallout or Final Fantasy where I play 100+ hours for the same price.

I will give you that 13 was a rialroad the entire time, but I still got 80+ hours out of the game compared to 10-15 out of Halo 3 for the same price.

XII was far from a prefect example of the series. I did like the combat/leveling mechanics though. It was an interesting twist.

I also liked the original HALO, it actually had a story. The sequels have really been all about the multiplayer aspect and solo players like myself quickly run out of game.

Its the hunger talking. I've got to get some pizza or something in me or I think I'm gonna pass out.

Also, some sidebars- I LOVED Final Fantasy Tactics. A pair of cosplayers showed up at Otakon dressed as a time mage and a ninja from that beloved game. And FFX2 wasn't so bad, although I admit I played it primarily for the cheesecake.
