just playing it myself. trying not to chuckle at some aspects.
That the controls seem easy so far help an old (non)gamer like me.

I do really love the character customization in the game. I feel that it is one of the best facial customization in all the I've played. Although yes I do agree with you Mr. Morris in that it is amusing to see what kind of miss matched family they stick you in.
Also.....this game has ALOT of Star Wars references. It makes me giggle.

I love playing Origins and Awakenings. Working on my second playthrough on Awakenings now with a new Orlesian Warden. If you plan on playing a Arcane Warrior and plan to wield a sword instead of staff I highly recommend using this Arcane Warrior Spellcasting guide to help decide what spells you want to learn.

Ty for the guide, as of now I'm wielding a staff until I find that elusive spell blade. >.>

You need to play this Leafy.
Shush!
Jyu1ch1 needs to get back to painting me miniatures and reading the books I give her! Not to mention her art projects.
I am reading books! Mr. Poe is by my bedside as of late, and Jyu1ch1 is low on funds to buy more paint for minis.
Also one day I'm dragging my ps3 down for the summer and making you play DA.

Don't read on if you don't want to hear about my sordid tales of game exploitation.
In Awakenings, I let my character fight on his own for awhile. Couldn't help myself. I left the house at 28th level and came back to find I'd risen to the top of 34th. The game won't let me go higher than 34th level, though my allies all crested level 35 and got improvements before their ability to receive experience shut down as well.
You can only rise so many levels in a game with a finite number of opponents, so here's how I broke it:
I was in Blackmarsh. There were Fade Portals everywhere sending Shades through to attack. So I took my party to a remote location and used the Hold Party function. Can't have them messing this up for me by destroying those precious Fade Portals.
My mage specialized in Shapeshifter, Arcane Warrior, and Battlemage. I used his Master Shapeshifter augmentation which strengthens his Stinging Swarm ability and transformed into an invincible cloud of death. I then waited right near the Fade Portal, but not close enough for my wasps to damage it. When Shades emerged from the portal to attack, they took proximity damage and eventually died.
MEANWHILE... As a Battlemage I also had the passive ability Stoic, which replenishes my mana with any bit of damage I take. So the constant source of slashing-soon-to-be-dying demons that flew at me actually kept my mana fully loaded. It was a turnkey experience factory.
I also noticed in Awakenings that if you buy the Class Specialization books (about 12 gp a piece), you can load in any previous save and suddenly you can no longer buy that book at the merchant because you somehow already own it and you didn't have to pay for it. That's 100+ gp easily saved over the course of the game. I used my ill gotten gain to buy my mage a townhouse in Boca.

I know the game is about a year old now but I recently got it for my Ps3.
Just finished my first time threw it the week before last as Commoner Dwarf Rogue. Tossing around the idea for Mage going into Arcane Warrior.
Anyone have ideas/comments?
Or general Dragon Age fandom? =D
I player through DA: O as an Elf mage... then just to see how the other hour long start chapters looked, I tried the commoner dwarf. When I have time I'll try out all of the possible start chapters. Otherwise I'd miss out on a lot of good story design. Also, when you start as these other characters you gain some insight as to why certain places were the way they were when you found them.
Did you know that if you're a human noble you can marry Anora at then end?
My Elf slaughtered Loghain and I put Alistair's hand in Anora's for marriage.
The Darkspawn Chronicles was NOT my thing. I knew I'd be playing evil. I did not know they'd expect me to slaughter all my former in-game friends including my own dog. That just felt ugly. However, I played it right after finishing DA: O, and watching my allies get slaughtered caused me to actually miss the characters in the game. So there's the quirky silver lining, I guess.

My Arcane Warrior is a elf aswell.
I didn't know you could marry Anora, so far I've played only female characters. The only person I've hooked up with was Alistair and I didn't set him up to be king. (I love the different story lines and plan on exploring them all! =D)
I wasn't particularly attracted to Darkspawn Chronicles and you've just confirmed it just proved to me that I made a wise choice (I try to resist reading FaQs and articles on games until I have fully exhausted it), but I am curious on the character customization on DC, is it as nice as Origins?

I like chasing down all the story lines in DA: Origins as well. They managed to weave a cloth of interconnecting narratives with cinema quality dialog and voiceover performances.
In DC, you can only be a Hurlock Commander with an ability to press other Darkspawn into service, from the little Gremlocks to Hurlocks, Shrieks and even Ogres. You can command three at a time. When you want a new thrall you have to kill off one of your current thralls (by activating your slay thrall ability). Thing is, the longer you keep a particular ally the more they see you win fights. The more they see you win fights the more inspired they become and the stronger they get, so switching over causes you to lose some well developed allies.
It was a novel change in focus at first, but at that moment when Oghren first ran up to us to defend Denerim and I saw my thralls pig pile him, I said uh oh. :/

Jyu1ch1 |

Oghren?! Noooooooooo! D=
(He laughed at Poetree~!)
Well the concept is kinda neat but I agree with you, after developing the relationships with the Origins characters it would be hard just killing them all off even if you go into the mindset that your playing an evil character.
Although killing the bard would be most satisfying.
I was kinda of sad that some of the characters had restriction on their relationships with them.

Well with the commercial success of Dragon Age I can only imagine it helped to light the beacon to all companies that if you can create an immersive RPG game... for many players, the more immersive the better. I'm guessing future games will eventually take the greater flexibility you desire into account.
Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion were insanely comprehensive fantasy worlds and character customization was king there, but compared to DA those were quiet games because it was just you out there adventuring.

The Jade |

Never tried Morrowind, I've heard fantastic reviews about it, but that was about I got into World of Warcraft, so that's been draining my soul since.
WOW, eh?
[i]"And that was the last anyone ever heard from Jyu1ch1..."[.i]
BTW, Between Morrowind and Oblivion, Oblivion is the newer, sharper game. Came out a few years ago.

The Jade |

Mmm, I mastered the listening to your parent filter before I started playing Wow. It's a gift really.
Must suck to have to ague with a dad that's one of the brighter people on Earth. If I had to rebel against such a parent, I'd just curl up in a ball and pee the bed. "See what you made me do mister smart man? Revolt pee!"

funny moment.
I just figured out how to map moves to the buttons. So I have 'below the belt' set as a move. Getting pretty decent (my videogame-fu is weak) at stealthing up to a target, whacking it with the swords then below the belt.
GF was shaking her head last night as I go charging into combat yelling "Kick 'em in the groin!"

The add-on with Shale was well worth it. I liked the Feastday gifts and pranks add-on as well. Come to think of it... I purchased all the add-ons. Why aren't there more add-ons?

You play on the Xbox then? Ps3 you got the Dragon armor set and Shale free with codes with the game purchase.
I have yet to get any of the add ons. What is the prank one?

No, I played PS3, but I got the premium edition that included Shale. He wasn't in the original game. The gifts and pranks add on allow you to give special items your characters can interact with. You can raise their approval to full with character specific or drop it down to nothing by giving them character specific prank gifts. Fun stuff, and the gifts are good for getting the abilities that come with better morale.

Mmmmm.....prank gifts....
"Here you go Sten, I got you a rabbit!"
*Hands Sten a dead rabbit that he was feeding at the campsite*
*Horrified look on Sten's face*
Sten is such a softy in disguise.
* Leliana: I saw what you were doing back there.
* Sten: Oh?
* Leliana: Don't play innocent with me.
* Sten: What are you talking about?
* Leliana: You. Playing with that kitten.
* Sten: ...There was no kitten.
* Leliana: Sten, I saw you. You dangling a piece of twine for it.
* Sten: I was helping it train.
* Leliana: You're a big softie!
* Sten: We will never speak of this again.

I was only able to get Sten's approval up with the gifts. He's a hard nut to crack if you play a kind character.

I found that you have to be just as thick headed as he is when talking to him. And usually that will give you some approval.
