Hey now I have posted here.

Go Germany!!!!!!!!!!

You can only post here if you mean it! Seriously! If you have any intention of offering up some kind of lame joke, just leave now! Ok?

All I know of Soccer I have learned from my co-workers

Yes. Damn those redcoats!! ;) Still England has a s@!*ty side this time round so I'm a guessing "Go Germany" may not be required. So who'll take my wager Germany 4-England 1?

I shall take your wager, you disloyal, traitorous son of a she-dog. To think that Her Majesty's mighty Lions will be undone by mere Germans. Nay, I say, it shall be like the gloried 1966 where we shall win owing to our skill, passion, lion-hearted bravery and dubious calls about when the ball crosses the line.

Tally-ho!

2nd goal! Ouch!

And 1 back!

Yes, but this now makes up for the goal that wasn't 44 years ago.

This is just getting ridiculous...refs have decided way too many games this cup and the last.

Might not matter now anyway.

Germany looks really good. Get ready for a real treat with the next game, Argentina and Mexico!

Wow. 4-1.

Though it should have been 4-2.

I'm gutted by our poor performance. But I measured up the strengths through the qualifying rounds. So I'm not surprised. Where the heck was our midfield today?

Yes but then I wouldn't have won my bet.

WOOOOT! Massive ownage!

Here in Germany we can't wait to see the reaction of the English tabloids LOL.

and we promise to never mention the wembley goal again ( well, at least not for the next 4 years)

the referee could not see it, but the line-man has to see that is was a
goal, the refusal of modern technology by the FIFA is getting ridiculous, the chip-in-the-ball-tech is researched and ready, just some old men in switzerland don't want to use it

Probably the usual garbage. British tabloids suck! Well played Germany!

How many points do you guys think Lionel Messi will have in the game against Mexico today?

I am saying a goal and an assist. He will be looking to pass more when defences collapse on him so possibly another assist.

There's one assist!

On behalf of all good Scots around the world

HA..HA.HAHA..HAHAHA...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!

There is a Gott.

Though it should have been 4-2 which would have been a much more fitting scoreline given the way the English always go on about it.

More laughs coming if Germany goes on to win this

and another wrong referee decision, irregular goal for argentina.
The referee and his line-man had a long discussion and quite obvious knew they had screwed up and then decided to just ignore it and give the goal

It is really not fair that the 2nd goal for England was not given - but this fits seamlessly into the line of poor calls by the refs in this world cup. Half the stadium saw that the ball was inside the goal, but the refs did not?
EDIT: But Wembley is now revenged.
Of course, good luck for our team. 4-1 is a solid result. I don´t know if the 2nd goal would have made all that much of a difference, as both teams were playing good, but Germany was a bit better overall, the goals were well played. Müller as a scorer is a big win for the team. Many years ago, there was a German forward Müller as well, they did call him the bomber. He still holds the record for the most goals for the German team, 68 goals in 62 games. So, having a Müller scoring is good news for Germany:-)

Stefan

Wow, what a goal by Tevez!

So. You can be as offensive as you wish to everyone on this thread, and if someone calls you on it then I'm prejudiced against Americans just because I happen to be English LMAO!

As far as I know, only you and one other person were claiming I was being offensive. It seems that everyone else got that I was just giving them a hard time for the fun of it, which is something sports fans do around here.

And I never said anything about your being English. There are many people who think of Americans as arrogant and ignorant. I can't help it if you were sounding like them.

I believe you, Abby. You were just kidding us. It doesn't mean that Americ... inhabitants of the United States aren't arrogant as a whole; we frenchmen are experts on the topic.

Spoiler:
I REALLY am pulling your leg, OK?

Actually, if you were to travel back in time, you'd discover that I was already hanging around, being totally awesome, and the early frenchies decided to try and emmulate me. So, you're not being arrogance experts, you're just trying to get on my hypothetical good side.

I don't know if it's because the Dutch defense is so smothering or Slovakia has little offense, but it's one boring game. Bring on Brazil vs Chile.!

hmm, I don't know,

I fell asleep in the first minutes and was awoken right now by the half time comercials :-) no kidding

Oh, you mean you are The Great One (capitals included). How honored to meet, err... to type to... forget it. :)

But you can't beat our current president at this game. He has done everything, been everywhere, tore down the Berlin wall, saved the world a zillion times from the evil capitalists... while fighting the commies... Funny guy.

The Exchange

Is it over yet?

2-1 for the Netherlands. Second goal by the Dutch was scored while the Slovakians were arguing about a free kick and they capitalized. Controversial penalty shot at the end for the Slovaks to score. I thought the Slovaks looked terrible. It will be interesting to see the Netherlands play a good team.

Tommorow Spain vs Portugal

Next round Germany vs Argentina
and most propably Netherlands vs Brazil

3 great matches

by the way: only 3 european teams will reach quaterfinals, last time alle four semi-final teams where european

The only time a non-European team won the World Cup on European soil was Brazil in Sweden in 1958. A European team has never won it when hosted outside of Europe. I would expect that trend to continue.

Chile looking surprisingly sharp for the first 35 mins until the Brazilian powerhouse took over. Brazil looks dangerous with every possession, although they looked more like a diving team rather than a soccer team at times. Good half and good game so far.

paraguay - japan
first penalty shootout of the world cup !

after two days, the ball will roll again - time to reanimate this thread.

Brasil vs Netherlands, great Match-up

and tomorrow Germany-Argentina, another great classic, Final of 86 and 90

but we will win, Paul the psychic Octopus predicted it, and he was right EVERY GAME so far

Weird... it works for me.

my prediction: netherlands 3 : brasil 2 with overtime

congratulations to our neighbours from Holland!!
Great match!!!

(Are there any dutch on these boards?)

Netherlands won against Brazil 2:1. I would not have expected this. Now, the Final could be Germany - Netherlands. This would be interesting also.

Stefan

Germany can probably take fuel for the fire after the Netherlands win to play harder against a supposed favourite. Would certainly shake this World Cup a bit if they beat Argentina. I wouldn't rule Spain out either, a deceptively good team. Things have suddenly got interesting.

Grand Lodge

I did not expect Holland to win either -- good game.

I think it's fair to say the Netherlands will be in the finals after watching the Ghana-Uruguay game. It's terrible soccer compared to the Brazil-Netherlands quarter final.

Uruguay won by sheer luck, Ghana should have won this. But I guess the Netherlands will probably beat Uruguay, as Paul says.
