Star Wars Saga "The First Holocron" PBP Character Concept Board

Male Human Paladin, 6

Welcome to the character concept boards for The First Holocron. New visitors to this PBP game who are interested in playing, please check out the rules in the "Gauging Interest" board here.

Post your character concept--backstory, home planet, goals, species, etc.--on this page, and within the next week or two I'll scoop up a handful of players and we'll get started on our first session.

EDIT: Yes, this is a recruitment board. I've decided, after some deliberation, that 'first come, first served' isn't a really good way of building a group in this situation, and have opted on a more serviceable 'recruitment pool' as has been successfully used in many Kingmaker campaigns.

May the Force be with you!

Kalderaan's Jedi concept - Kel Dor race.

Human Psychomancer

Bleh. Long day. I will get my concept up tomorrow. Definitely going with Noble, though.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

That warforged avatar actually fits a Kel Dor pretty well.

This is Tanner Nielsen's character. I'm adapting the profile from a fighter I previously played, so please ignore references to greatswords and breastplate armor in the profile :). The section on physical appearance and personality are correct, though.

1. Any suggestions for my starting talent? They all look so nice.

2. Maximum starting money?

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16, 2011 Top 32

I'll work on a character and post here as soon as I'm done. I'll probably abandon HK and go for a Jedi of some sort. Be back soon!

Edit: after thinking about it, I'd like to try a Human Jedi Sentinel, someone who is in training to be a sort of Jedi private investigator, probably Corellian. He was a street kid who ran into trouble with the law. A local Jedi recognized his Force potential as well as a proclivity for illicit activities and set him on this path: using his abilities for good instead of ill.

Male Duros Soldier 2

Scipion's fellow. How much was starting credits again? I went with a 30 pt buy since you said Heroic. I'll change it up if needed.

Lnejee Stazi, duros soldier. I'll ad some fluff to the crunch later.

Male Human Paladin, 6

IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT!

*The game will be using a 32 point-buy system for attributes.

*You have two options for starting credits--either roll for wealth as listed in the book (in which case, use these boards, please!), or simply take half of the maximum wealth attainable through rolling. This is as following:

Jedi / Noble: 600 c
Scoundrel / Scout / Soldier: 1500 c

*Jedi begin play with a standard-issue lightsaber containing an Ilum crystal that gives no bonuses. The blade can be of any shade of green, yellow or blue. This is provided at no cost.

*All races that require apparatus to operate in the galaxy at large (i.e., Kel Dor and their breathing equipment) receive it at no additional cost.

*Races that have yet to be discovered by 200 BBY (such as Ewoks) may not be played.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Star Wars dating system: "BBY" is a unit of year measurement, standing for 'Before the Battle of Yavin'. This means that our campaign takes place during the Old Republic while Yoda still sits on the Jedi council, two hundred years before Luke Skywalker fires a proton torpedo down the throat of the Giant Hurt Ball we know as the Death Star.

To this day I am unsuccessful in tracking down the unit of time measurement used BEFORE the BBY / ABY calendar, and before the founding of the Galactic Empire. If anyone can track down that information, I'd appreciate it if they can pass it on to me.

May the Force be with you!

I couldn't find a different dating system. The Wookieepedia lists the founding of the Galactic City at 100,000 BBY. Then it says, " It can be presumed that it was founded thousands of years before that — possibly as the first Human city in the galaxy — although no records stretch back that far." So I am guessing that no one has created a taxonomy for an epoch previous to that time.

Note: I'll just taken half-maximum starting money. I used the standard array of stats, so I will fix that in a bit.

Gosh! I am a SW nerd!

Here is literally the best article on this. I have researched this myself numerous times. Good luck!

Go to the Wookiepedia!

A nice chronology of events

EDIT: Ninja'd by Amon Goethe the Great!

Male Human Paladin, 6

So, I suppose simple math dictates that our campaign takes place in 3453 After the Treaty of Coruscant. 3453 ATC it is, then. Thanks for the info, Berwick!

I will roll for Wealth for Sho Larn, Jedi.

Starting credits: 3d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) = 10

I will update my equipment and stats accordingly tonight for Sho Larn, the Kel Dor Jedi.

DM: It says in the Saga Edition Rulebook, "A 1st-level Noble starts play with 3d4 x 400 credits." My starting money, if half of the maximum amount, would be 2400 credits. Jedi get 3d4 x 100, so 600 credits is correct for them. Right?

Otherwise, I am good to go. I will probably add some backstory, but that is best revealed in small bits during play :)

Backstory added. Nutshell: alcoholic ex-military diplomatic haunted by his family's judgment.

This is our party so far:

Sho Larn - Kel Dor Jedi
Amon Goethe - Human Noble
Lnejee Stanzi - Duros Soldier
Dycabaska - Wookiee Jedi

Looks like we have combat covered! Did we want to wait for a fifth, DM Reycied?

Lnejee Can you give me a phonetic pronunciation of your name? I'll trade you, mine is "Ah-moan Geth"

Dycabaska I'll change one of my languages to Shyriiwook.

Here is a picture of Sho Larn, Kel Dor jedi:

"Le-ni-jee Sta-zi"

I just noticed that Kel Dor only have 4 digits...

Thanks! It was bothering me for some reason. :)

Male Human Paladin, 6

Sorry I've been a little scarce...had to reformat my compy, and I'm still getting things stabilized here.

Expect a full post within the next 24 hours!

So no flipping the "bird" for me?

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16, 2011 Top 32

So, will we be starting at 1st level or higher? On the other thread you mentioned starting higher and I am all about that. A couple more levels would definitely allow us to refine our characters a bit more.

Male Human Paladin, 6

I've decided that we'll start at level two, and add another 500c into your account to buy extra equipment.

IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT!
If you have access to the Jedi Academy sourcebook, then take heed: I will be using the rules for Lightsaber modification found therein. In addition, there will be a minor nod to Knights of the Old Republic in that items will sometimes be made available to you (found or purchased from vendors) that are of superior quality. Going far beyond Masterwork quality, these items will function similar to magical items in D&D and Pathfinder. For example, finding Jedi robes that add +1 to Wisdom while worn, or repulsorlift boots that add +5 feet to the wearer's base move speed. Does anyone have any objections to my ad hoc'ing items like that? My intention is to make sure those 'treats' are spread evenly around the party.

EDIT: I am also stealing an idea that was in d20 Star Wars, as well as in 4e D&D: the idea of "Minions". Minions are enemies that have only one hit point. They represent the dregs of the galaxy. Once they take a single strike, they fall to the ground, dead or disabled. "Minions" are the reason why Luke can slice through the entirety of Jabba's slave barge with only a shot to the hand. Minions are a way for you to fight overwhelming numbers without actually being overwhelmed.

But don't rest on your laurels! The challenging foes will--I hope--truly be a CHALLENGE!

1. Everything is fine with me. I will update my character.

2. In your campaign, can Jedi deflect slugthrowers? That's always an argument starter. :)

Male Human Paladin, 6

Jedi can BLOCK slugs, but not DEFLECT them. As far as I'm aware, their lightsaber blades simply dissolve the slugs.

So the four of us are definately in then? You mentioned a selection process.

I will update my character accordingly.

Thanks,

Kalderaan/Sho Larn.

Male Human Paladin, 6

Since nobody else has expressed any interest, it looks like you guys are it. XD But let's see some character back stories, goals, relationships, destinies, personalities. Y'know...CHARACTERS! Who is your character outside your stats? That's what this thread is for.

DRAMATIC POSE!

Let's see it!

Dyce is a Wookie: large, emotional and fiercely loyal. Even though the Jedi code sometimes runs counter to his instincts, he continues to persevere, trusting that his Master is correct. His trust is one weakness; he has no notion of the guile that people are capable of. He will always defend his friends, no matter the charge or reasons. However he hides a secret shame, that he is no more than a bestial creature, incapable of truly grasping the Force as the Masters have. He worries that his lack of control will lead him to the Dark Side, so he sometimes overcompensates by trying twice as hard. However the harder he tries, the more the Force's subtler motions elude him. It is a vicious cycle and one which may cost him one day.

Male Human Paladin, 6

Yo James, are you going to make a Profile for Dyce at some point? Also, congrats on the kickin' HP roll!

Yeppers, I just wanted to make sure he was in the game before I inaugurated his profile!

Male Human Paladin, 6

I apologize, that's my fault.

In the end, it looks like interest is too low to facilitate actual recruitment. To that end, let me make this official:

Sho Larn - Kel Dor Jedi ACCEPTED!
Amon Goethe - Human Noble ACCEPTED!
Lnejee Stanzi - Duros Soldier ACCEPTED!
Dycabaska - Wookiee Jedi ACCEPTED!

Should anybody express more interest, we'll examine them as they come. In the meantime, welcome, gentlemen, to the First Holocron!

RRRRRROWWR!

That's Shri-wook for AWESOME.

"Rowrarow wargaba wanawar!"

"I heartily agree."

I will update Amon to level 2 and fill in more backstory this evening.

Sho Larn's hit points for 2nd level:1d10 ⇒ 8

I have updated Sho Larn with my appearance and background. I took some liberties with Jedi Master and such as so please look it over.

Thanks!

Male Human Paladin, 6

So far everything is looking good.

Okay, now, I have some good news and some bad news.

The bad news is, I'm going to be very busy this week and a little bit of the next taking care of my mother. She had a bit of a medical scare, so I'm going to be keeping a close eye on her. I won't be able to work very heavily on the campaign when I'm the only one home to watch her.

The good news is, the campaign can officially start next Saturday, March 19th. If this is all right with everyone else, I'll post where the campaign will begin so you can determine how your characters got there, as well as hand out bonus feats to all characters with completed backgrounds and goals.

EDIT: I have to say, I'm really liking what I'm seeing so far--characters with flaws in their personalities. This leads to difficult decisions and temptations towards the DAAAARK SIIIIDE. :3 And what would a Star Wars game be without "Yes. I can feel your anger. Your hatred. JOIN THE DARK SIDE!"?

This is Reycied. A long time ago, in a Galaxy far, far away...check my profile for an opening story, and a hint at events to come!

I'm guessing you meant June 19th?

Yes as a matter of fact, I meant June 19th. I'm sorry, I'm a little fuzzy at the moment. XD

Dyce--have you already written a Master, or shall I write one for you? I've got an idea for one in my head, but I'll defer to you. :)

Amon sighed as he turned over the bottle in his hand and shook it a little. Not even a drop came out. Was he really putting them away so quickly now that he could barely remember drinking half that bottle?

"Hey. Slag-sucker."

Amon sighed and rubbed his brow with one hand while the other slid beneath the table and unbuckled the strap that held his blaster inside its holster.

The Devaronian and his Trandoshan friend didn't look in the mood to talk. They were both carrying stun batons. Amon knew the type. You didn't drift in the cantinas for as long as he had and not see their type. They looked for the drunks in the seedier bars and shook them down for credits.

"You guys want to just move along?" Amon asked glibly. "My cred chip is about empty."

"Then you won't mind if we take it from you," the Trandoshan hissed and gurgled in his savage tongue, raising his stun baton.

Amon cursed. And drew first.

Due to his long days frequenting cantinas and spaceport bars, Amon has become adept at reacting to situations swiftly and staying on his toes. He has acquired the Bonus Feat "Skill Training: Initiative".

"My master suggests you put your weapons away," Sho Larn said, his words rasping through his gas mask. The goggles he wore tinted the world a darker color. He could feel the feral heat of his towering Wookiee master, Tyvokka, at his back. They were surrounded by Trandoshan slavers, fresh from their latest haul of Wookiee slaves. "He says that if you do, no harm will be done to you, and will be judged fairly by the Republic."

There was no sound other than hissing laughter and the sad, forlorn moaning of Wookiee slaves in their cages far below.

Sho could feel the hatred and rage of his master boiling in him like a river of lava. With what felt like a great struggle, Tyvokka subverted that hate, drowned it in a river of calmness and oneness with the Force.

"Sho, my Padawan," he said in a low rumble of the Shyriiwook language. "Remeber what I taught you. Strike first. Strike fast. Strike hard. With the speed and strength of the noble Vornskr."

Sho nodded. The Force closed in around him, and as the closest slaver lifted his blaster to fire, the Kel Dor Padawan ignited his lightsaber.

Tyvokka has instructed Sho Larn in the first kata of Form VII, the Way of the Vornskr. This aggressive lightsaber form will one day be refined by Mace Windu into the most dangerous form (to the opponent as well as to the user, as it dances perilously close to the Dark Side) of Vaapad. As a result, Sho Larn has acquired the Bonus Feat "Rapid Strike".

Yay for bonus feats!

The writeups for us so far are kick butt!

I am excited to begin but understand that RL situations such as yours take priority. Take all the time you need, we'll be here!

Dyce glanced between the two bounty hunters blocking his way and wished, not for the first time, that his master Lomo were here. The old Ithorian was better with the Jedi Mind Trick. Was better with diplomatic resolution. As it stood, all Dyce could do was show his lightsaber, growl an ultimatum in Shyriiwook, and either hope one of them knew the language, or understood the universal language of veiled threats.

"Oh, look," one of the bounty hunters said with a smirk. He was a Human, fingering the trigger of his blaster rifle. "Looks like he scavenged a lightsaber off a dead Jedi somewhere. Y'know, fuzzball, that thing is gonna be more dangerous to you than it will be to us. Why don't you turn around and walk away?"

"I have business at the port," Dyce growled ominously in his native tongue. "The man who hired you is dealing in illegal spice that is cut with toxic substance. It is killing hundreds of innocents. Stand down, or be cut down."

"He looks serious," the other bounty hunter, a Twi'lek, said with a heavy gulp. "I think he might actually be a Jedi."

"Sith spit. Wookiees are too stupid to be Jedi."

Dyce's left eye twitched. He took a deep breath.

There is no emotion. There is peace.

But there was emotion...wasn't there?

His lightsaber spun into his paw, and his arboreal claws closed around the hilt. With a sizzling hum, the blade sliced though both bodies in a single, lumine arc.

The dual compulsions of Dycebaska have made him a fierce melee combatant. Having trained his mind and body to work in concert with his lightsaber, he has mastered the art of cleaving through multiple targets with a single slash. He has acquired the Bonus Feat "Cleave".

Male Duros Soldier 2

Credits...3d4 ⇒ (4, 4, 1) = 9 Whoo! 2750 creds.

"Watch out, Manskin!"

Lnenjee rolled out of the way as a frayed cable snapped, dumping what must have been tons of ferrocrete blocks onto the spot where he had just been moments before. The racket was tremendous, the noise drowning out the thunder of water, loud enough even to drown out all thought. Lnejee winced his eyes shut against the noise, and when the last block clanked into silence, he heard something else.

Laughter.

"Should have kept quiet," he heard another Duros worker say with a jocular chortle. "Maybe whitie there would have been crushed and we wouldn't have to look at his pasty mug anymore!"

"He looks like the wrong side of a Wampa's ass!" came another jeer, and this was met by cheerful catcalls.

"All right, bulbheads," the foreman said with a smile that didn't show much conviction in his words. "Let's leave the half-human, or whatever he is, to his work. The rest of you get back to working on the dam."

Lnejee Stazi narrowed his eyes. He wasn't going to be able to stand much more of this.

Not much more of this at all.

Lnejee Stazi spent several years building the Tiercam Dam on the planet Duros. The punishing physical labor, constant threat of accidents and unrelenting jeers of his unforgiving fellow Duros workers had a profound effect on his ability to withstand punishment. As a result, Lnejee has acquired the Bonus Feat "Improved Defenses".
