As soon as I saw Tartuk's stat block, my first thought was 'he would be so much better as a summoner'.

I like this a great deal. I am officially stealing it so when my future party members run into another summoner, they will know they are not the only kids on the block with this ability.

+1 and two thumbs up.

I used something similar to this, though I bumped up Tartuk a level to account for party power. I can dig up my stats later, but my Tartuk had Haste as one of his spells. He also cast Reduce Person on the barbarian ...

used it, it went well

I too used Tartuk as a summoner. Rough fight for the pcs, especially with an Eidolan with reach and poison. They managed to kill off the eidolan, but Tartuk escaped down the back door.

The funny thing though, when he shrunk the paladin (the front line guy), it increased his AC and only brought down his average dam done by 1.5.

I think it helped the group more than hurt them.

Good fight though.

My Tartuk fought the PCs and escaped ... then came back with an encore as a mythic summoner. I wish now that I'd given him Mythic Reduce Person ...

Mine PCs fought Tartuk the Summoner in the last game, Old Sharptooth nearly killed the catfolk ranger when clearing the way out for his master. So the purple kobold escaped and is going to became a recurring villian for the PCs and their future Kingdom.
The Sootscales tribe now venerate a new god, the party's boar-tiger eidolon. Only Chief Sootscale, Mikmek and Nakpik know the truth, but they are keeping it secret to control the rest of the tribe with a new fear.

I'm building my very own Tartuk the Summoner based on this thread, but I'm not terribly familiar with the Eidelon mechanics.

If I were to grab the Reach evolution, and attribute it to Claws, would that apply to all the Eidelon's Claw attacks, or just a single claw attack, what if I chose limbs/claws a second time and had 4 claw attacks?

Same question for the Improved Damage evolution.

Are there any feats that's a summoner might take (not feats to choose for the Eidelon itself) to specifically enhance their Eidelon?

Edit - Follow up, do the Bleed and Energy Attack evolutions add to the existing dmg of the attack type, or replace it?

Edit 2 - Anyone have any formulas for converting PF poisons to 3.5? I want my Old Sharptooth to have a poisonous tail attack, but the basic poison mechanic in PF is different than it is in 3.5.

I did this one, so my thoughts went something like this; the encounter, Sharptooth attacks and our old friend Tartuk (a coward at heart after all) casts invisibility on himself and heads for the hills.

Thus leaving the kobolds to plan for traps to catch summoned and/or invisible creatures.

And the PC's to worry when they are next going to meet Tartuk..

They captured his journal, but have not started translating it yet,,,,,,

While this thread is resurrected, how did the original poster get the 3/day Rovagug's Fury spell-like ability on the eidolon? I haven't been able to figure out where that came from.

From what I can tell there are a bunch of mechanical errors in the stat blocks in the first post.

It would have been very helpful to show which Eidelon chassis he started with (assuming biped as that's the only reasonable way to get 4 claws) and then what evolutions he grabbed.

- The HP are slightly off (4D10+8 rather than +10)
- The AC should be 2 higher if he did use the biped chassis: +2 to start, additional +4 from summoner level
- Not sure how he got the Cha to 12, again assuming the biped chassis and the +1 stat boost went to Con
- Rovagug's Fury ????

There's no size, reach, aligntment, etc listed for the Eidolon either.

I'd love to use Tartuk as an Unchained Summoner with a daemon eidolon (since daemons show up later on in the AP, this can be a bit of foreshadowing). Leave it unsummoned as the PCs give the usual 'this guy's a fake, he doesn't have a god on his speed dial' spiel -- and then Tartuk whistles up his pet daemon and hilarity ensues as the kobolds panic and the PCs are in the fight of their lives.

I used the Eidolon as an incarnation of Old Sharptooth.

Anyone write any new ideas for Tartuk to make himself know again later on in the game?

Right now my plan is before the treaty with the kobolds is in place, that Tartuk summons a bunch of kobolds to attack the party, thus making them think the kobolds have betrayed the intention of a treaty.

Should be fun.

I went for Tartuk as Summoner as well, with the eilodon as Old Sharptooth; a very good and thematic idea which I got on this forum! With 4 attacks, one of them with reach and bleed, combined with combat reflexes and AC 21 with enhanced natural armor, the eilodon gave my PCs a pretty hard time. They managed to put it down in the end, but that gave plenty of time to Tartuk to get away.

I plan to have him back at some point, but not too soon. I'll probably wait until the kingdom is established, then Tartuk (with a couple more levels of course) will come back for his revenge.

My players were all pretty well-bloodied by my Tartuk, even though the kobold himself didn't do much except drop a pit in the magus's way in an attempt to flee. (To be fair, the magus did disrupt his attempt to cast Color Spray, which would have hit three of the five PCs and totally changed the fight) I gave Tartuk 5 levels of Summoner and one of Sorcerer for a few different spells. The largest problem the party had was overcoming Sharptooth's 19 AC and reach, while dealing with the kobold's annoying tactics. In all, he's a much more potent fight this way than as a sorcerer, especially if you mess around with his spells to give him some firepower.

Unfortunately, my Tartuk died in the same round Sharptooth did, which was quite a disappointment. My players all had fun, and it was the first time since the bandit camp that they'd been sufficiently challenged.

My players should get to the kobolds lair tomorrow night. Last week they slaughtered the mite king and the 6 giant whiptails that the mites had bred. The Pc’s pretty much announced their presence so the mites got ready and protected their lair as best they could.

Party consists of
4th level Human female Sorceror
4th level human male Fighter
4th level Human male Bard (arcane swordsman)
4th level dwarven cleric with long spear

Akiros is the sworn man of the sorcereres and there is also a 2nd level ranger sworn to the fighter (former bandit saved from death)

Assuming the players do not just kill Mik Mak (and this is a possibility as they have already fought with kobolds from Falcons Last Hope and Crown of the Kobold King) and then slaughter the Sootscales, they will find Tartuk as a 5th level summoner. Tartuk has charmed the previously mentioned Kobold King (sorcerer) and his albino sorcerer/cleric consort whom escaped from the dwarven monastery where they had been worshiping a black dragon, location unknown (will be in the Forge of Fury that I will introduce soon).

This should be a harder fight than as published as Tartuk has his Eidolon as detailed above, 4 elite kobold warriors that he has charmed, the king and the albino to back him up, as soon as he is aware there is a threat he will also summon natures ally to provide screening.

Assuming they survive (and they always seem to) I will look at introducing Mik Mak as an NPC follower (prob a 2nd level rogue/1st level barbarian) should have some good comedic side kick potential there!

Ran this today and the eidolon proved to be quite formidable. Sadly for poor Tartuk, he was taken out early by a well placed Hideous Laughter. The encounter still proved to be quite good though, much better than it would have been otherwise.
