Pearls of Power for Sorcerers, Bards etc?

Liberty's Edge

According to the rules, a Pearl of Power can be used by 'all spellcasters who prepare spells (clerics, druids, rangers, paladins, and wizards)'. Obviously this leaves out spontaneous casters like Sorcerers and Bards.

Is there a similar magic item in the rules that allow a benefit similar to a Pearl of Power for spontaneous casters? I did a quick check and didn't see one, but ...

Shadow Lodge

No.

But sorcerers do benefit from rings of wizardry a bit more than wizards do because they have more base spells. Of course those are crazy expensive.

Not to my knowledge. This was one of the main reasons I boosted the Sorceror class in 3.5.

I don't see how it would unbalance things of a pearl of power could also allow a spontaneous caster to regain a 'spells cast per day' usage for a particular level of spell.

It's probably because spontaneous casters already get more spells to cast a day. Yes their selection is much smaller than a prepared caster, but once the prepared caster has chosen for the day he's stuck with it. If Mr. Prep only took one Dispel Magic and he didn't have any scrolls of it and needs to cast it several times he's boned. Mr. Spontaneous can spam Dispel with every 3rd level slot he has (and use higher slots if applicable). If either doesn't have the spell at all they're even up.

Mr. Prep gets Pearls of Power. Mr. Spontaneous has easier access to metamagic on the fly & more slots/day. YMMV.

You can always house rule it if you want spon casters to be able to use the pearls. I don't think it would be horribly over powered to allow a spon caster to recast a spell they've already cast by activating the pearl. For balance sake, I would limit it to recasting a spell they've already cast, rather then just getting an open spell slot back.

In one of the 3.5 books there was a magic item that did the exact same thing for sorcerers as a pearl of power... I think it was called a Memento Magika, and if I recall was a wee bit more expensive.

Edit: Google wins. Races of the Dragon

What about a magic item that restores per day Spell Like Abilities? I doubt it, but you never know...

Since this thread was already raised...

That item is also reprinted in the Magic Item Compendium.
