Help with Artifacts

Homebrew and House Rules

So as many of you probably already know from other threads I've posted in, I'm about to start a steampunk game based on the world in a book I'm writing. I'd originally intended for it to be low-magic but I decided I'd forgo that because Pathfinder (along with most D&D settings) tends to make magic somewhat common. Before I go any further, all the rules for my steampunk stuff/firearms can be found here and all the races in the game can be found here. So anyway I've been trying to figure out some artifacts to reward the characters in my game with after they achieve a goal they've set for their characters.

The only artifact I can think of right now is for the gun wielder in my game (who I'm pretty sure is going to be a Human Fighter). Its based off a gun one of the characters in the book I'm writing uses and it's called Hydra. It would be a 6 barreled turret pistol (look at the link above if you want to know what that is), the problem is I can't decide what enchantments to give it other than possibly seeking and I can't think of what it's self destruct type thing would be. I'm also giving it some weird ability that if it's sundered it grows all it's barrels back plus 2 additional barrels in 1d4 rounds (giving it it's name) and at the end of the day it reverts back to 6. I know it's not standard for artifacts to be able to be sundered but I think the character would like it and it's not something I've seen in a game before.

EDIT: Looking at some stuff about the Hydra of Lerna (the 1 Hercules killed) I may give the gun the corrosive (from the Magic Item Compendium) enchantment too

I'm also thinking about a dagger or short sword similar to the 1 in Prince of Persia for the Rogue.

Don't know what sort of power level you're looking for. Maybe tie it into the user's hitpoints? (At 75% of total hp it deals double damage, 50% triple, 25% quadruple, self destruct starts at 0 and acts like the Magi staff.) Also give it a loading ability, where it loads itself from a matched ammo container, or if it not, maybe if the character doesn't have time to load it then it will keep firing, converting 1hp into a bullet per shot? Also maybe a 1/x ability to fire off all 6 barrels at once, like a greater many shot?

I think I'm going to say all the barrels are automatically loaded if it gets sundered, I may use the fire all barrels at once thing (I might actually make that a feat instead to be honest). I'm not 100% sure on the ammo container but we'll see. He'll probably get this around 10th-11th level so it should probably be a minor artifact.

I've toyed with the idea of a prince of persia sword, but in combat it can get complicated rewinding a round or more.

id like to hear any ideas on how to do it better

I don't know your players, so it's possible that this will never occur to them...but is there any reason to *not* multiply Sunder the gun every morning in order to produce a ridiculous gun each day?

On a hopefully more useful note, can you give any more information on the individual characters? Having an idea of the character roles might provide insight into what would make for an appropriate artifact for each.

Outside of anything else, I'd suggest a theme. If the gun is named Hydra, perhaps the others would all be named for mythological creatures (either all Greek or each from a distinct culture)

That's a good point, although I don't really think my players would do that, I now have a destruction method... "If Hydra is sundered by the person possessing it, or by it's possessors allies it crumbles to dust."

As far as characters go, we unfortunately haven't started yet (but when we do we're starting around 3rd level so this is a ways off) I just know that one player wants to be a Human Fighter that uses guns and is kind of going for a wild west type feel. I'm pretty sure another one has shown interest in playing an ex-assassin, if you look at the races for my game in the link above there's a race that can start take assassin levels without meeting the prerequisites but they have to roll a percentile (although if he wants to do it I won't make him, he'll just won't be able to take more than 5 assassin levels before changing and if reverts back to his evil ways I'll kill off his character). I was thinking the Prince of Persia type dagger for that. I'm thinking that it will allow him to use it as an immediate action 3/day to reroll a failed save, forgo damage against an attack, stuff like that, although I'm not sure if I like that yet.

That's not a bad idea, I'm not sure if I'd stick to Greek but who knows. Hopefully the other people will express what they want to play soon so I can work on this more. Thanks for all the help so far.
