Recruiting for Second Darkness PbP

Gamer Connection

Ok,

I've decided to run the Second Darkness AP as a PbP game, using the Pathfinder rules (it was originally 3.5E).

I'll be open for character submissions through until June 2nd, which I'll pick the best ~5 characters submitted.

I'll be playing the game on the Myth-Weavers website, since I tend to like their mechanisms for dice rolling and character sheets, but I'll submit any characters from Paizo readers either here, or on the MW site.

The micro-site dedicated to the game is here

Elements of Applying
Characters with well-written personalities, backstories and elements tightly woven into Riddleport will be the best candidates.

All submissions should include:
+ Character Name
+ History/Background
+ Appearance (Picture optional)
+ Stats From The High Fantasy (20) Point Buy
+ 1 Pathfinder Trait and 1 Second Darkness Trait
+ Starting Gold: Roll, or take the average of your class if you don't like your roll. Rolls made on this Pre-game forum.
+ Class doesn't have starting gold (it's from APG?) use: 4d6x10gp.

Characters must be bent towards "doing the right thing" yet must also be familiar with Riddleport. Backgrounds should focus on either natives of Riddleport or the surrounding areas. Characters must also have a good reason to attend the Cheat The Devil and Take His Gold event - inspirations can be found in the bonus traits.

Game Scope
The game starts at 1st level, and we will definitely play through and complete "Shadow in the Sky". It's 6 full chapters, so it will take 2-3 years to play out via PbP. That said, I'd like to run it through to completion but do not expect that long of commitments from players for this first chapter.

Thanks, and can't wait to get started.

For this game, I'd like it to be composed of "frequent posters" - meaning you can post at least twice per weekday (weekends are off). I'll do an early and a late update to keep the game moving. Obviously folks will have breaks/vacations where their characters actions can be taken by the DM if they need a week or more away from game.

I'd be interested in playing. I'll work on a character concepts and post it this weekend. I shouldn't have an issue posting at least twice a day as long as Mythe-weavers is not blocked buy my work.

Probably try with a Human Fighter.

I am interested in doing a cleric of cayden cailean. I will post on the recruitment thread when I get my character all nice and done up

I am interested as well and can post multiple times per day. With weekends off.

Character Name
Sanstree
Class Druid
Level 1
Alignment N

Feats:
spell focus (conjuration)
Augment Summoning

Nature bond...Weather domain (no animal companion)

History/Background
Interest in both druid and arcane magic, was living in the nearby Calphiak Mountains and noticed the Shadow in the sky directly above Riddleport.

Appearance
16 year old male human with light brown hair and green eyes.

Stats From The High Fantasy (20) Point Buy
Str 7
Dex 8
Con 13
Int 18

River Rat
You learned to swim right after you learned to walk. As a youth, a gang of river pirates put you to work swimming in nighttime rivers and canals with a dagger in your teeth so you could sever the anchor ropes of merchant vessels.

Researching the Blot

Kidnapped as a youth and forced to work for pirates off the local coastline in the areas around Riddleport. Eventually escaped captivity and swam away one night with a dagger in his teeth to live in the forest as far from the sea as possible eventually setting in the nearby Calphiak Mountains.

Adding a App for a Human barbarian, per your info on the Barbs of the area, Would an Earth breaker be ok for a Weapon?

Earth Breaker is absolutely OK for a weapon, especially for a barbarian.

Not sure how well this character would fit, and I don't have the Second Darkness Player's Guide, so I can't pick a trait, but here's a Fire Sorcerer I wanted to play in Kingmaker(but he didn't get picked).

I can easily change his background around to have him end up in Riddleport, and if anyone could suggest a trait that fits, I'd appreciate it.

My second Darkness Pbp unfortunately went kaput, but I've got an idea for a cussing, swearing, limerick spitting great oaf of a bard in mind. (Think Sam Kineson as a bard)That would love a chance at life. I'll post the Character next week when I'm back in town if interested. Often poses as different things (Cleric of Cayden Calidan, Visiting lecherous noble, Wise and powerful wizard)in order to best take advantage of situations. Thinking about the feats that let you use anything as an improvised weapon, and lots of rank in bluff and disguise, but underneath all the bluster, he's actually pretty effective, especially at supporting the rest of the party.

For applications, I'm definitely favoring those who have juicy tie ins to Riddleport, which favors characters who feel like they fit in the city. That doesn't mean just criminal types or criminal-tolerant types, but at least a backstory that gives a nod to growing up around those elements.

Character concept is great... I'd want to know how far your game got, just so I know how many spoilers you've seen, since there's some pretty crazy stuff in store.

Spoiler:
We had just been hired by the GG, and had one random encounter. It ended early

Yeah that's early enough I'm not worried about spoilers. It'll be a little repeat in the beginning, you guys stopped before any "good" stuff!

I think that my wife and I would be interested in this. Busy through the weekend, so you probably will hear from us on Monday. Then again, it sounds like you are holding off until the 2nd, so plenty of time to make sure to get things all sorted out. Will read the Player's Guide for Second Darkness this weekend.

Happy gaming.

How about his Chelaxian owner came to Riddleport for the Golden Goblin when the fire flared? Or he lost Obi in a gamble and he was freed? This can all happen years ago, at a previous Golden Goblin.

GM:

In the interests of full disclosure, my character is a veteran of another Second Darkness game that faded halfway through first level, after we had been made part owners of the gambling hall.
You can see how far we got here...

Liberty's Edge

Entered the fray on the other site

Didn't see any thing on the PC I posted.

Is he a go?
Thus I need to realy detail him out...

....or should I try another character?

I've had about 16 character submissions, and about a half-dozen more characters that I'm aware are still to come.

I'll be accepting submissions through until June 2nd.

While I'll consider character profiles linked in this thread, the game will eventually play on the Myth-Weavers.com forums linked here

Since I've already had a few folks ask about multiple submissions, I will allow up to 2 submissions per person.

Characters with strong backgrounds and good tie ins to be motivated to attend the Cheat the Devil and Take His Gold event have the best shot.

New character submitted for approval right here. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread and the Mythweaver thread for updates.

Spoiler:
Also, can be reached at Saviorsrdenver AT gmail DOT com if you want to get in touch directly for any reason.

Going to make a character - I want in on this! I'm leaning towards an urban ranger/fighter, or a sorceror - not entirely sure. Sorry about being so close to the deadline - I'll just have to kick my character creation into overdrive to force out my competitors.

No worries. The deadline is still 4 days away. I'm very impressed by all the submissions, which is making my position difficult to pick the party.

For Paizo Folks:

For those of you on Paizo, I'd love to get your apps submitted in the MW applications thread if you could be troubled to create accounts over there.

Post here

You will eventually need the account to play, so it gets that hurdle out of the way at least.

Plus it'll help me have a better birds-eye view, and send you private messages over there, or discuss your character on dedicated threads. It's not a bad little site for playing games.

Done. Incidentally, I don't know how you feel about non-core gear, but I bought some stuff from the Adventurer's Armory because some of it made sense for someone who doesn't move around (much) to have, and the bladed scarf is just a cool concealed weapon for the character.

Ok third try should be the right one !!!

The other two went kaput.

I think the party's have already been chosen. You can check on the Mythweavers site. (NOTE: You have to refresh the page to see any changes. I checked it for a whole day before I figured that out)
