[LPJ Design] Hire Andy Collins to work on Pirates of the Bronze Sky?

Product Discussion

Should LPJ Design hire Andy Collins to work on Pirates of the Bronze Sky because of his work on Paizo's Spelljammer: Shadow of the Spider Moon? Tell me what you think about this.

You'd be a fool not to if he is available (aside from his recent resignation from WotC; assuming a better offer with a video game design company hadn't occurred). That's a no-brainer to me, Louis!

I agree. Andy needs to work on as much PF goodness as possible.

Assuming you can afford him, then i would say yes. Just seems like he might be in demand. So good luck with it.

Well I can always have a "Need to afford Andy Collins for Pirates of the Bronze Sky One Dollar One Day sale"!

Has Mr. Collins done any work so far with the PF rules? I can't remember seeing his name but I frequently forget which author has done what when it comes to the various offerings.

Can someone remind me what parts of 3.5 Andy Collins primarily authored? I know he did the Epic Level Handbook, but what else?

Ken

The only time I may pay attention to a specific name or designer, is after a series of successful endeavors, and even then, not being an industry insider, only if the name is used repeatedly.

For name recognition, perhaps, if you are trying to boost visibility of your product while the iron is hot, but otherwise, it is harder to judge ones talent unless you have an interview. And you would know better then most as to the direction of your product.

But name alone would not infuence me to buy a product, but praise on this and similar sites would surely persuade me to take a look.

The answer is not yes. The answer is absolutely and what other PFRPG products can he help you design.

Well if you are not familiar with Andy Conllins, here is a list of projects he has worked on. Maybe you might have heard of a few of them, picked them up and liked them...

Scarab Sages

Hire him.

The Exchange

If you can, you absolutely should. Apart from all the great books he worked on, I liked a lot of his stuff published in the old Dragon Magazine and I took a lot of helpful advice from his homepage, so I'd love to see the results of such a collaboration

Hire him. And if you don't someone else should. Soon...

Hire him for mechanics. Fluff wise... not so much. Shadow of the Spider Moon was Spelljammer without any of the whimsy. Now there are certainly those who say the setting had far too much of it, but for a lot of Spelljammer fans the humorousness/goofiness was part of the setting's charm.

(If loving firearm-crazed hippomen in British Naval uniforms is wrong, I don't wanna be right.)

Hire him!!!!!!!!

OK just to keep you up to date, I have attended to make contact with Andy Collins but to no avail. If anyone knows a way to contact him please let me know or contact him so he can contact me directly. Thanks for your support.

Just out of curiosity, didn't you already have someone else lined up for this or was it always up in the air and yet to be assigned to a specific writer prior to your recent suggestion?

We do. We have James 'Grim' Desborough is doing the primary writing on Pirates of the Bronze Sky. If you are not familiar with Mr Desborough you might want to check out some of his other work INCLUDING Obsidian Twilight. We have something SPECIAL for Mr. Collins to write, if and when we get in touch with him. Keep your fingers crossed.
